At our location we're sitting on 20mm for August so far. YTD is 313mm, which slightly up on last 2 years, but still well below average. Still waiting for a big rain event, ground is like rock, dams still well down.

Blowy and a little wet this morning.
    SWW up from the BOM.

    Weather Situation:
A cold front embedded in a southwesterly airflow will pass across southern Victoria at first this morning, with another stronger front to follow tonight.

DAMAGING WINDS, averaging 50 to 70 km/h with peak gusts of 90 to 100 km/h, are expected about exposed parts of the Gippsland coast, Strzelecki and Otway Ranges and also Alpine areas (above 1200m) today.

Tonight, the risk of damaging winds is expected to extend over the Mornington Peninsula, eastern parts of the Central district and the remainder of Gippsland - then persist during Thursday morning.

Locations which may be affected include Morwell, Traralgon, Sale, Moe, Bairnsdale and Orbost.

Strongest wind gusts since midday Tuesday:

    Wilsons Promontory 130km/h 03:53pm Tuesday

    Mt Gellibrand 93km/h 05:20pm Tuesday

    Mt Hotham 93km/h 07:08pm Tuesday

Yeah, bloody windy overnight and currently at our place. I'll be amazed if we don't have a tree down.

    Still quite blustery this morning.
A solid set of showers went through Canterbury just before 6am, but the sun is out now and we have a couple of days respite to look forward to.

Very blustery here in Melbourne this morning.
The sun is out though and it's quite nice otherwise.
Expect that it will change later this afternoon.

Flying over to Melbourne from Perth after lunch, wonder if we will get a bit of a push along by the weather / or be in for a bumpy ride...

Generally a tail wind from Perth, 9 times out of 10.
Might get a bit lumpy close to landing.

Fun landing. We landed as the front crossed VIC, so it was rather bumpy. But nothing exciting :)

Rain overnight was disappointing, only 1mm in my gauge. Cold morning, but the sun has been out most of the day.

Agree, only 0.5mm here. Turned into a cracking day, and now enjoying a couple of cold ones in front of fire as the light fades.

Very interesting seeing the variances in temps for me.

Mine only got down to 9c, whereas the city officially recorded just over 4c. Appreciate though that mine is taken from a sheltered balcony and there is probably latent heat from the building creeping in. (it's bracketed to the wall about 5ft off the ground)

Cool, but not as cold as Monday or Tuesday. Clouds have rolled in, and expect rain this afternoon; but it should clear quickly.

Was a bit wet and cold for the ride home yesterday afternoon.
A bit of pre-dawn rain this morning but had cleared - quite chilly though, this morning.

Another cool night in Melbourne, 5 in the city recorded this morning.

Interesting to note - notwithstanding today's above average temp, Melbourne should record a below average day time temperature anomaly for August, something in the region of 0.5 or 0.6 below the August day time averages.

Nights however have been about 0.5 above the long term average, despite the recent run of cold evenings.
