Winds dropping off as the rain moves through Melbourne. I reckon it will clear before midnight. Coming up to 3mm in my gauge.
Thanks Did you get any lightning / thunder out your way? Beginning to think it was a dream on my part. **Edit. No sooner had I posted that another big flash and clap of thunder came through.
OK all you weather types, especially all you new friends, explain to me what's happening in my neighbourhood right now?
Just got clobbered in Latrobe St....hail horizontal rain and lightening strike real close Team Leader a bit damp now but iPad was in lunch bag! Jesus ....Melb got clobbered I think just now! Folk of all backgrounds hiding in bus shelters etc etc ......
Nice light show looking out over the bay from bed. Temp dropped rapidly for the city, sitting above 12c at 10 and now we are down in the 8s
Rainfall totals peaked along the SW coast with a number of locations registering 30mm+. 8mm locally with no thunder/hail but a shedload of wind. Yet to roam the property but all appears upright.
Lots of branches down our way in Canterbury. The rain petered out before midnight. Mild this morning, still blowing from the north.
Cold and breezy in Caroline springs this morning..westerly component to today’s wind...no rain as yet cumulonimbus clouds ...stuff all blue sky above.Roads dry outside.
Mizzle finally stopped allowing me to empty out 12.8mm which is last night until now. 18mm since Sunday and closing in on 300mm since May 1. More please...
Gusterly winds in Melbs eastern subs this morning...little bit of drizzle on commute towards western subs. Wind socks on Westgate bridge showing moderate velocity from a west of Nth vector.. Looks like a mix of strato & cumulonimbus above.Stuff all blue sky...cloud at moderate height. Temp approx 13degC. Roads dry in Caroline Sorings atm.Gusterly winds of moderate strength so far. Team Bears contrasts our local conditions with the Mexicans at resort altitude ....it appears to be raining atm in Thredbo land
Sheets of windy mizzle here at home last few hours. Very mild atm with current temp 7.9c. Yesterdays max for the 24 hrs was 8.3c so a bit of warm air now ahead of afternoon into tomorrow cold pool
Still too westerly ATM for any decent accumulation around central Vicco. Again the SW hog the decents falls. Cape Otway adds another 30mm+, bringing the "event" total above 60mm. SWW for damaging winds only covering the higher altitudes (currently). BoM should revise this at the 1030hrs update to cover a larger part of the state. Any storm that fires mid/late arvo will produce very strong squalls/gusts.
Dry and mild at home when I left to for work. Turned to light rain by East Hawthorn and rained all the way to Port Melbourne. Not really damp enough to break out the wet weather kit for the ride though. It's a little heavier now, but still very mild.
Very little (if any) change to the SWW for Damaging winds. Sth Channel Island (80kmh) and Avalon (72kmh) seeing increased gusts in the last hour. Shall see what happens this arvo...
Niadoc flags are waving in Caroline springs but not making that flapping noise ...thus indicating only moderate wind velocity atm.Pavement still dry.....light grey sky...only small areas of blue sky visible atm Wind mostly from west and nw. Well...just started to rain ...a little.now wind picking up a little too...
Flood watch up. Initial Flood Watch for North East Victoria and Upper Yarra Catchments Issued at 11:26 am EST on Friday 12 July 2019 Flood Watch Number: 1 Minor flooding may develop across the North East and Upper Yarra catchments from early Saturday morning. A cold front embedded in a strong westerly airflow will pass across Victoria today. Catchments in the flood watch area are wet following recent rainfall. Widespread rainfall totals of 20 to 50 mm are forecast for the remainder of Friday across the North East and Upper Yarra catchments. Isolated higher totals are possible on the ranges. Rain will fall as snow above 1500 metres, lowering to 600 metres overnight. With the forecast rainfall, river rises are expected during Friday and minor flooding may develop across the flood watch area from early Saturday morning. Catchments likely to be affected include: Yarra River to Coldstream Upper Murray and Mitta Mitta Rivers Kiewa River Ovens and King Rivers Goulburn River upstream of Lake Eildon Goulburn River Eildon to Seymour
Goulburn River U/S of Lake Eildon is soooooo needed as GM-Water are flushing upward of 6,000ML/day D/S of Eildon. Sitting under 36%, here's hoping that the Lake gets about 50% by Cup Weekend. Otherwise, well, lets not talk about it.....
Looks like the front has arrived with gusto in Docklands. Windy af and plenty of rain falling. Looking like winter outside.
Hey guys. My family of 2 school aged children and I are planning our first trip ever to see the snow tomorrow to lake mountain. We have no idea what to expect, especially with the weather. Can anyone please tell me is it worth taking them tomorrow with the weather forecast as it is atm?
Wild and woolly this morning in Melbourne. Strong westerly winds, made the ride back up the bay a pretty fair slog 4.5mm rain for the 24 hours in my system.
Looks like there will be a bit of a "wintery mix" tomorrow. Still fairly breezy but you'll find some snow.
Just got caught in a huge thunder/hailstorm on the Monash from East Malvern all the way through to Mulgrave. Was quite vicious. Car temp dropped from 14° to 3° in about 5 mins. Took a sneaky pic but couldn't capture all the hail on the road.
That is a MASSIVE drop in temp, amazing. We had a big squally shower push through the city about an hour ago, and it was bitter outside in the wind. I note that the maximum for Melbourne today has been revised down to 11c. That said, we surpassed it and got to 11.9
Up until this morning the Upper Yarra hadn't seen much activity, however it's been wet and cold today. Donna Buang has been shrouded most of the day so can't see any white stuff. Nice bit of sun now....
Yep run of the mill day in Woodend yesterday with sun out, high was 7.3c. Was down in Melbourne around 1pm at Williamstown and saw lightning and hail shaft on storm heading SE of the city as described above. Today its foggy mizzly and after a low of 2.8c currently up to 4.6c.
Mizzly in Melbourne too. Enough to make the bike ride less pleasant that it usually is. Winds pushing in from the north still, felt colder than it really was.

Sitting at 8.3 in Daylesford but the feels like is not nice.. -0.3 very very chilly with dew point and wind chill
Miserable afternoon here in Canterbury. Hovering around 12C and light showers on and off (mostly on). Wind seems to have died down.

Bass Strait sounds like a horrible place to be today. Flinder's Island A/P cracked 93km/h @ 1:30pm also.
