Indeed, West Gippy (Warragul) and outer SE Melbs have had some ripper cells this past week!

Unlike Friday, round 2 is bringing the heat!!

New line forming north-south from Lorne.
Still a couple of hours away from the CBD I think.

That line is approaching pretty fast.
Might get out here in the next 10-15m to beat it home.

2:45pm. Watching from a window on the 9th floor at Swinburne University (Hawthorn), looking north there was very clear low level rotation. Lasted a few minutes. Clearest I’ve seen in Australia. Would have been over the Kew area.

Impressive line coming into the city. Heavy heavy rain now and big hail (for the city) + lots of wind.

The storm line was quite Impressive looking. Didn’t get a photo unfortunately but looked very Independence Day.
Nice hail, consistent lightening and thunder. Gone now.

The lightning mission failed, but I got some decent shots up from the usual location in the Surrey Hills.

The cell everyone is talking about, is the 3rd picture I think.

Heavy rain for 5 minutes, with some small hail.
And of course now the lightning decides to come out, the house was rumbling for a moment there.

Tail end of the most impressive electrical storm we've seen in a long time. Ben Cairn and Donna Buang were being smashed with bolt after bolt, glad it's wet up there

Great day to see structure and weather today. Completely missed out at home with just 1.8mm for the day. Was stuck in the office late, which initially caused sulks but then as the storm approached was just fantastic! Great stuff CBD.

Surface low is now dictating terms and central Vic will be under a vigorous, unstable, SW flow overnight. EC suggests widespread 5-15mm falls for much of metro areas.

Can't rule out a few rumbles or small hail either.

Really nice falls overnight for the metro region, west has unfortunately missed out on the bigger falls.

Still plenty of activity on the radar and light rain in the city and refreshingly cooler.

52.6mm at.ferny creek. Need to pull down my weather station and do some maintenance (reckon its full of spiderwebs or all that pollen!). Says 27mm, but I'm not entirely sure its acurrate. Looking at the radar .theres a few more hours left for the outer east.

45mm for me at home at AWS2 from yesterday to right now. AWS1 must have gotten hailed on because I got home and it was reporting 87mm, but from that point recorded rainfall at a rate similar to AWS2. I think I need to take a closer look at AWS1 because I think it has a habit of holding hail in the cup, then sliding it into the gauge at once, as I had 11mm then next recording was 60+mm then 85mm (and it updates rainfall every 30 seconds). Interestingly AWS1 is at my house on the top of a small rise and about 20m higher than AWS2 and in a clearing, whereas AWS2 is in a clearing in the bush down the back of the property, but consistently records ~10% more rainfall than AWS1.

In all a pretty decent drink, i'm up to 82mm for Feb now, and with 121mm for Jan i'm >200mm for the year, which is pretty bloody decent you cant complain about that.

I reckon the grass will just grow OK until the weekend, as it's low 20s until then. A couple of mid to high 20s over the weekend and into early next week and she's going to go ballistic.
