Seriously, how stupid can you get?:
Wind really picking up now in Bairnsdale. Hoping rain comes soon as dust is picking up too.
Tracker picking up some embedded bolts down near the Sorrento in the heavier cells that are coming ashore. Could be an interesting arvo!
Yep Mitta Mitta to Glen Wills = NO GO. IMHO If you are heading to XC ski at Mt. Wills and enjoy the summit hut then wait until Monday and take a chainsaw, snow shovel and wheel chains.
Healesville to Narbethong road is now closed both ways . There has been a terrible accident out near Fernshaw. :-(
Aye Aye skipper, it is now properly cold, wet and windy here in NE Melb. and people are
complaining about it. "Not I!" said the fly. This is what we skiers want .
Ferny Creek Obs back on a downwards trend, getting closer to that predicted snowfall up there!

Meanwhile in Portsea...
(She is allowed to go home just wanted to get it done)
Plan is to go hunting for it tomorrow morning if the cold and precip align.
So a lot of weather around the state today. Snow near Ballarat , Trentham etc. Snowy alps, windy wet coasts.
Completely underwhelming and often sunny day here. A brief sprinkle around 2pm or so but otherwise uneventful max of 6.6c. Was only a degree cooler than the city at one point. , pretty upset. Anyway looking forward to the weekend and what it may deliver. Also vain hopes that the cold pool out west heads more easterly than the models suggest.
Cameras at airfields around Vic and NSW and others.....more Vic at bottom of page
Check out Portland under the edge of the uber cold pool.

Wow that is a nice drop in temperature!!!
Unfortunately a female occupant of the car has passed away.
Rain cleared up this afternoon, nice to have a tail-wind for the ride home. Cold, but not unreasonably so.
Flood warning summary:
Minor Flood Warning for the Werribee River
Initial Minor Flood Warning for the Bunyip River
Initial Minor Flood Warning for the Latrobe River
Initial Flood Watch for Upper Yarra, Bunyip and Latrobe Catchments
Now its an interesting day! Temp: -0.6c DP: -2.2c here at home and super interesting radar and satellite. A lightning strike just west of Cape Otway and the band heading north
Cold and drizzling here in NE Melb. .I am putting the Classic track XC skis in the car. I suspect a trip to Lake Mtn. is in process.
Far out. Precip all over radar, temp just prior was -1.9c, already up to 0.6c and its raining with only the odd flake.Yep raining. (insert expletive here) Some icy surfaces so roads in next hour or so up here a mess. But seriously. Never going to snow if it isn't now. I understand why its raining but pretty disappointed. Radio says pretty good snow in Dandenongs atm...
BOM forecast has snow down to 600m, rising to 900m today.
Down to 500m tomorrow morning.
Lots of cold looking clouds streaming across the bay from my place:
I installed a home AWS yesterday and it's been interesting watching the temperatures - I recorded a low of 6.5 and the city officially had a low of 5.2. Over a degree difference. My AWS is on my balcony in a sheltered spot on the wall out of direct light etc...
Going to get up to Mt Dandenong in a hour and a bit’s time.
Hopefully this rainband is snowing or at least sleeting up there.
@Gordon near Ballarat
Its warmingpretty quick at Mt D, otherwise I'd be tempted to do a quick trip. Tomorrow AM looking better from what I'm hearing/reading.
View of Mt Macedon now just below the cloud line. There is a burn area allowing a view of the ground there. Current temp here 2.1c
Very dark and foreboding in the city now
Absolutely pouring in Vermont South.
Not much going on in Tambo Upper, moderate wind, need a jumper on outside. August rainfall total still only at 0.5mm, and models backed off precip this weekend. No surprises there, been the story of the last 3 years.
You'll cash in overnight tonight and tomorrow. Anything less than 15mm would be disappointing by this time Monday.
Temps up to 2.6 c in Ferny creek now but you might be lucky. Should at least still be snow on the ground. The new playspace/old golf course looks good from pics I’ve seen on fb. Good luck looking forward to pics.
24hr rainfall chart to 0900hrs. In short, West & South Gippy smashed it. Moe and Yarragon with 50mm.
Well picked by GFS in the the lead-up.
Hope you're right.
Only 13mm here since yesterday and 5 deg at the back door. Clouds have lifted slightly to about 700m asl but can't see any snow.
Donna Buang has had a fair bit apparently but the road is chaotic and still not cleared to 10 mile carpark.
Mum has just advised it is sleeting in Taggerty.
EC now matching GFS (which stuck to its guns from a long way out on this aspect of this event) with snow tonight / early tomorrow in central parts of the state being pretty low level. After this mornings disappointment and yesterdays sunshine I will believe it when I see it.
Keep watching the satellite SSW of Tassie. Polar express rocketing up.
I actually think this part of the event later this arvo and tonight will produce the coldest and lower level snow out of this system so far? IMO
A lot of places around here have snow forecast from about midnight tonight until morning.
More snow flurries for me this morning with the temp on 2c big fat wet flakes falling from about 4am through until 8am
4C and raining when I went for my ride this morning.
Occasional sunshine - still pretty gusty bay-side. Poured down in Sandringham.
It is cold - looking forward to getting back to Perth tomorrow.
You stupid git.
Turning into a nice day in Melbourne this Arvo. Sun is out, light winds and above 11c
Sat certainly makes it look like colder air could still come in tonight. The long fetch on this system is quite incredible to look at.
Yeah imo this air is frigid! Coming direct line from the south and straight in over central/south east vic. Could give some more low level snow into southern vic.
The Melb radar is a sight. Cant remember seeing a cold showery morning, clearing away to the east with such a defined gap, then another band incoming immediately behind. Love it! Off to chop some wood for a fire tonight.
Vic BOM going with snow above 400m in the Melbourne forecast for tomorrow morning.
9.1c for a high during an even sunnier arvo than yesterday. Emptied 1.4mm around 3pm but have had some showers since. Interesting watching the DP's drop off a little as the colder air approaches. Back to 5.5c now, next lot of showers if they make it and are heavier could be interesting.
Just beat me to it cc
The whole of southern vic snow to 400m! Going to be a fun night tonight, the hills all around the traps could look good by morning. Hopefully enough rain can come through here once it’s cold enough and it sticks
Team Bears used the two hour window in the weather to punch the blades along the bike track in Port Melb ....the wind surfers were loving the conditions.....nobody about apart from a few joggers!
Hopefully better windows tomorrow for exercising .......wind had large component from the south so not to hard on the east west alignment.
Question is if I should climb the hills again tomorrow...
I just don’t want it to get rained over afterwards.
