Day 1 at Geto Kogan
Wow 1st time I have seen a helmet sign like that in Japan!
North to Hakkoda Mountain. You know you want to.
Beers with Vladimir Putin!
Some goodness coming your way.
We are backcountry the next 3 days out of Morioka.
Yeah I bumped into him at the pub!
Geto Day 2. Short day as we had to catch Shinkansen to Morioka in the afternoon. Snow not so good today but still better than Australia.
Just been told by the guide its going to rain tomorrow. So now it's a rest day tomorrow. Hopefully cat skiing on Tuesday then skinning on Wednesday.
Sun came out for a while today allowing us to actually see the terrain. That's the town of Kitakami in the distance.
Some nicely spaced beech forest runs at Geto. Warm weather coming in during the day messing up yesterdays pow
Cat Skiing With Appi Backcountry Tours
Hey Mike, how do you rate the terrain and cat operation there?
Well organised? Steep or mellow, how many vertical in a run etc?
Pics look good btw.
Had to skull some whiskey after looking at those pics Mike. Awesome stuff. How is Noels leg doing ? Wish i was there with you guys. Looking forward to some more Main Range with you two et al. Is Paul D doing the Japow thing atm ?
So good. Is that Mt Iwate in the background? I couldn't get a seat last year as they were booked out.
Appi Backcountry. Much better snow today.
Yes that's Mt Iwate
Noel's leg is fine. We wish you were here too!! Yes Paul and co arrived at Niseko yesterday.
I found the cat skiing was a little disappointing as the guides were over cautious and the snow was not fantastic yesterday. It would be better in good powder. That said it was still a fun day out. We had a much better day today skinning across from where the cat ski operation is. It snowed last night so we got good powder. The runs were much better and the guide let us ski lines of our own choice.
Snow has been puking down in Niseko.
More powder runs
Was it Strawberry flavour
I see it...
We skied a fair bit of the mountain today including Hirafu Hanozono and Annapuri.
Not sure what flavour it was but it was sweet!
Yotei-San hiding away behind her cloud hat again.
Thanks for sharing your fun times Mike
No worries. As you can see I am doing it tough.
Good day out backcountry skiing on Mt Yotei today. Weather was socked in as per usual so we didn't summit. However got some sensational powder. There is a reason the powder is so good here. It's because the weather is always socked in.
You went in from the Makkari side Mike?
Nice. Looks like it was lovely conditions in tree line.
Not sure. As you can see from the map we accessed it south east. We overlooked Rusutsu.
Just looked at Garmin Connect. Yes we did go in from the Makkari side.
Always A Powder Day cat skiing.
A couple more pics from backcountry day on Mt Yotei
Thats PD on your left ?
I was about to ask the same.
Yes that's PD.
More Japow. Where are you Kletterer?
So cruel ...........but keep the pics coming by all means bro and keep feasting
Went on a day trip to Rusutsu today. Thing of coming back on Saturday to pick off some runs we saw today. It takes a day to learn where the good skiing is.
Is this deep enough for you? A few professional pics from our cat day.
A hike up Niseko Annupuri Peak
Last day of skiing with a day trip to Kiroro
