Here's mine. Not doing this as a brag list, more because it was interesting to keep track of where I've ridden! For each continent, I've tried to rank my favourites. Obviously, some are driven by circumstances (pow days, less crowded) but I've tried to be balanced here. Struggled to rank the Japanese and Euro resorts as each of those listed have their own charm. I'd return to Furano and Tangram circus (other side of Madaro) in a heartbeat. Both incredible on powder days. Cant imagine I'd return to Niseko during peak season.

Some impressive lists here.
Aside from a two trips in my early twenties to Thredbo and Perisher I started skiing at 38. By that time a had a 4 year old and two year old.

So in the last 9 years we've notched up a few ski hills. Let me assure all of you youngsters that taking a family of four skiing is a lot harder (and just a bit more expensive) than going as a couple.

We're heading to Europe this coming winter and will ski various resorts in Austria, Italy and France. Might even ski over the hill into Switzerland if the weather plays the game.
Our glaring omission is Japan. I've heard it snows a bit there...............

If it was by the town of Collingwood, ON, you're probably thinking of Blue Mtn.

You would be hard pressed to find a Canadian who could tell you where Ben Eion was without googling it first. Did you get lost in a blizzard and end up in Cape Breton by mistake?

Yep.

Gaps in my North American resume are powder highway, US PNW and SW Colorado/NM etc.
Perhaps Montana too. Bridger and Big Sky are worth it by themselves. Have heard that adding the lesser known places like Red Lodge, Discovery, or Lost Trail is worth the driving. And then there's Whitefish.

My list is all in the U.S. but covers several regions from the east coast to the west coast. Mostly from the last 15 years. Heavily influenced by the MCP in recent years when flying to the Rockies. Helps to be retired.

There should have been Big Sky and Bridger added to our USA skiing but the year we were in West Yellowstone and planning to head up, it was 12c and raining... in the middle of January  So we headed south the Utah NPs for a road trip instead.

Also should have skied Red Mountain on the trip to Whitewater but I twisted a knee so had to rest for a few days :tany::tany:

Have stayed in Whistler in summer but not skied there. +1 has skied Blackcomb.

Would love to ski Chamonix but not sure we'll ever get to Europe in winter now that we run an orchard. Which puts Chile on our list of upcoming skiing OS plans hopefully. The orchard and farm move last year meant we had to forfeit a ski trip to Siberia with our best ski buddies in two weeks time. Now THAT would have been amazing!!

If you DO go to Chile consider doing the heliski trip with Andes Heliboarding - well worth it.

Only started doing trips to big mountains in the U.S. regularly about 10 years ago, after age 50. Took a few trips in the 1980s and 1990s for groomers only. Having a non-skiing husband limits the length of trips a bit. Helped to find a small group of like-minded friends also willing to leave spouses or were un-attached. Once the kid is in college, then going to other continents becomes more likely. The lists in this thread are helpful for considering where to go in Europe or Japan.

My usual list is by region, but thought it would be interesting to separate out where I go more often. I like to explore new places. When I travel solo in early and late season that usually means only one day. In that case, I'm more interested in skiing off as many lifts as possible to get a feel for the overall terrain than focusing on advanced terrain. That way the trail map makes much more sense.

1-3 days
  • Mt. Hood Meadows - late season, May
  • Mt. Bachelor - late season, May
  • Mammoth - late season, May
  • Tahoe: Squaw, Alpine, Northstar, Homewood, Kirkwood, Sugar Bowl, Mt. Rose
  • Around SLC: Solitude, Brighton, Park City, Powder Mountain, Snowbasin
  • Jackson Hole
  • Grand Targhee
  • Sun Valley
  • Arapahoe Basin
  • Telluride
  • Mid-Atlantic (PA, NY Catskills): Elk, Whitetail, Roundtop, Plattekill, Belleayre, Hunter
  • Northeast (NY, VT, NH): Gore, Smuggler’s Notch, Sugarbush, Mad River Glen, Killington, Pico, Mt. Sunapee, Loon, Wildcat
  • Québec, Canada: Temblant, St. Sauveur
4 days or more
  • Alta - annual late season trips starting 2008, #1 favorite
  • Taos - #2 favorite after first trip in 2017

No 2018 additions for me. Japan trip was back to a few regular areas in Tohoku, then cut short by sickness anyway. Then NZ trip was once again in Wanaka skiing familiar areas, but I did manage after 35 years to reach the 1 million vertical metre mark with HMH.

Impressive list for a lifetime of skiing let alone 8 years!
Bought my first season pass this year also but only skiing 8 days at Whitewater using it for other benefits. One year I’ll ski more than 15 or so days in a season

Yes and no.
If you are here go for it, but i wouldn't be planning a trip purely for skiing considering your in NZ.
Unless you wanted to expand your list, id stay put. Or if you can somehow chase a storm, otherwise it wouldn't be worth the $$$ IMO

If it was by the town of Collingwood, ON, you're probably thinking of Blue Mtn.

You would be hard pressed to find a Canadian who could tell you where Ben Eion was without googling it first. Did you get lost in a blizzard and end up in Cape Breton by mistake?

My ex was from Cape Breton. Beautiful part of the world. Ben Eion one of the smallest resorts I have ever been to. The base of the one and only lift is at sea level! As always it is what you make of it.

This.

If you had a work trip to Canberra in August then do it for sure, but don't make a specific effort.

I don't have an impressive list as I had a flirtation with skiing in my teens and early 20's (just a few days here and there) before life got in the way and I resumed in my very late 30's. Kids were then on the scene. My son was 2 and daughter was 4 when they had their first and only days lesson (I get this is not an ideal situation) at Coronet Peak but in the 8/9 years they have become pretty good skiers and have the following under their belts -

Thredbo
Perisher

Coronet Peak
Remarks
Mt Hutt

Whistler/Blackcomb
Sun Peaks
Lake Louise
Sunshine

Northstar
Mammoth
Squaw
Alpine Meadows
Alta
Snowbird
Brighton
Jackson Hole
Grand Targhee
Aspen
Aspen Highlands
Buttermilk
Snowmass
Sun Valley
Snowbasin

Over these Christmas holidays they should get time on the snow at the following -

Hochzillertal
Mayrhofen
Hintertux
Zillertal Arena

Pila
Cervinia/Zermatt
La Thuile/La Rosiere
Courmayeur

Arabba
Canazei
Alta Badia
Val Gardena

They're kids so they have no idea how lucky they are. For example my daughter said to me one August day at Thredbo when she was about 8 - "Dad I like the fluffy snow at Alta better than this snow".:)

My son and his wife lived in Cape Breton for 5 years before coming to their senses and bringing our grandchildren back to BC. We got to visit the Rock a few times as a result. Ben Eion is the only ski resort I've come across that also has a golf course and marina!

My kids learnt to ski in Japan. You should have seen the looks on their faces when I introduced them to a muddy Friday Flat. Priceless.

Kids are so.easy to.please :)
Don't get me wrong, they love Thredbo and skiing in Australia or anywhere for that matter.

They were still quite young. The look was more quizzical / confused.

Mine didn’t notice.
Powder or sheet ice it didn’t seem to worry them - it was all good. At least at the start.

Is it true you have to pay for parking on top of ski passes???
I was chatting with some Aussies in Ohau lodge and they said that...

It depends what state you're in, but effectively yes in most cases.

In Victoria you have to pay a daily amenities fee to the Resort Management Board (or RMB) of whatever ski resort you are visiting.
Rather oddly, in Tasmania and New South Wales, all ski resorts are actually inside national parks, so they charge a daily "Parks entrance fee". (The precise name depends on if you're in Tassie or NSFW.)

But if you go skiing outside a ski resort in Victoria, everything is free, no one tries to charge you anything.

There is another ski resort on Cape Breton. Ski Cape Smokey which is larger than SBE as it has 2 lifts but I think only the Poma runs these days. It is run by volunteers and opens only sporadically, it was never open when I was there. Snowfall would close it down for days at a time.
