It'd be great if you could advise what 'conditions' this was made in or at least what time on Friday so we can look up the conditions. I am guessing before 11am or after 2pm Friday with a <-3C wet bulb temp?

Looks like great snow making weather this week here in Bathurst -5.3 this morning, with -3s and -4s expected all week long.

It's tempting. Been ages since I made snow, but just so busy with work these days. And I am finding staying up all night is getting harder as you get older. Might have a look at Thursday or Friday morning.

Bugga. I set my gear up for the first day of winter. -4.2 C here right now. But had water connection leaking between my water pressure washer and snow gun. Couldn't get it to tighten/seal. Got out the heavy duty plumbers mate, made a few more turns, tested it and still leaking, a few more turns and SNAP, broke my water pressure washer. Snapped the outlet pipe casting. Well that put a stop to it.

I do have a petrol water pressure washer for when snowing up in skate parks etc, but it is a little noisy to run in a residential area. Looks like I am off to Bunnings for a new water pressure washer.

I could get out my 1st internal mix gun I made like 10 years ago. Just runs of mains pressure tap water and air compressor. But has a smaller volume of snow making. Nahhh, off to bed now. :(

Well, I got to make snow again. I almost failed this time due to the snow gun not working. Could not figure it out, after buying a a new Karsher2 and testing that everything worked in the arvo, it was really odd that no water was coming out. So I swapped snow guns and it all worked. But when setting up, I noticed that I had dripped the water hose in the dirt before fitting to the pressure washer. Gave it a clean and got it all working. I assume I may have done the same with the other gun the nozzles could be blocked up with dirt. I'll have to pull it apart and see.

Anyway fired the gun off at 3.30am, temps from -2.5 down to -4.2. Made a 15cm dump. And sure enough, bus loads of school kids had a play in the snow before school. Bathurst SnowPark is open for snowplay!

I think I need to adjust (shorten) the distance between noculation and sprays closer. I think I am losing too much water vaper that is not bonding and turning into snow. Oh well, something else to fix.

    Top effort rollyz.

Wish we were another couple of degrees colder in Dubbo.

Can you repost information on your setup. Must try this some time - although windows will be limited. Do you go off your own weather station info?

I use our local weather station predictions. I like using Elders Weather. Our local is the Airport. Over the years I find I get 1-2 degrees lower in the temp inversions at my place as to the airport. And down the river can be another 1-2 degrees lower still. Use your own themometer to compare. Also weather station shows relative humidity which is a factor in snow making, especially in marginal areas. Temp and humidity can make al the difference between making snow or not making any at all, as well as making a wet or dry snow. Back in the day I would drive all over town at different spots and hours comparing with the weather station so I had a good idea of my locality. And then there is the inversions to think of. At the bottom Mt. Pannorama was -3C yet up top where I could get power and water it was +3C. So that was no good for me.

Cheers Rolly. Was just doing a bit of reading. Think i'd need a weather station as our airport is on top of a small hill and i am in the valley. Hopefully that means conditions are better here than it appears using the BOM airport data.

I went home for lunch, and there was waiting for me a box of chocolates and a thank you card. The kids from one of the school buses had a great time. :) That makes it worth getting up at 2.30am in minus temps.

-6.1 this morning and yes I made snow. I have been busy and working on 3 guns. Had to clean out the nozzles, with the gunk that has built up in some of them. One kept cutting out, so I was down to two. High humidity, snow was a little on the wet side, still looks good right now when you look out through the window.

Yes I made a heap on Saturday, with temps getting down to -7.8. I had two guns running. Had some freeze up problems that hot water was not solving, so just changed air hose with a spare. Made 20cm patches which some snow is still here today (wednesday). Yep the Today show had a squiz.

Rolly great work. I note that your system is nowhere near maxxed out though, so you have the opportunity to make a lot more snow from the guns you have there. Firstly, the compressor looks on the small side, if you wanted to invest in a belt-driven 2.5HP version, you'd have a lot more compressed air to work with (and you could probably run both guns off 1 compressor without too many worries). You could definitely upgrade the pressure washer unit though. I used the entry-level Bosch pressure washer for a long time, then had a chance to upgrade to a more industrial Karcher, and I reckon that in combination with the 2.5HP air compressor yields me about 2-2.5 times as much snow from the same gun. Space and neighbours might be an issue, but it looks like you've got the gun mounted about 5-6 feet in the air. If you can get it up to 10 feet you'll make more snow too.

[IMG][/IMG] [IMG][/IMG] I managed to make some snow on Friday night/Saturday morning last week in Bowral! It was between -4 and -5 the whole time. I ran it for around 1.5 hours before the nucleator nozzle froze up and i was just spraying water for a good half an hour haha. The snow was around 10-15cm deep in most places. Nice work Snowmaker7. Nice cover and depth. I've learnt that with my guns you have to keep checking them every 15 minutes or so. I also have a metal water can at the ready to fill with hot water in case of freeze ups.

Yes here in Bathurst. Yes 3 extension cords, running of power from a shed. But kept tripping the circuit, so found another power point, on a different circuit with a 4th extension lead and all seems to be stable now.

No, haven't moved, now finally got some space on a lot so I can do bigger experiments where I could not do in a public park or on the street. Hope to trial this toboggan slope, and hope to be able to build more snow on top each night. It is fenced off so people wont accidently hurt themselves in the middle of the night. I will have to sign post it off the highway when it is up and going. The site is on par in elevation and temps with my place and the airport (where readings are taken). I would have preferred closer down near the river with even lower temps but this is what I got and will give it a go.
