My son is heading to New Zealand for 2 weeks to board.
What are the best options for mobile coverage?
He is going to Queenstown, Coronet and Remarkables?

    Cheers!

5 bucks a day roaming from most aussies networks i think? If not i think Skinny mobile are probably the cheapest for a local sim.

I used this place, they are in Sydney airport so you get your sim before you go and dont have to worry about it when you get there. The sims use the Vodafone next work which I think is the largest in NZ.

I always walk into the Spark store and pick up a $49 pre-paid SIM. Plenty of data, enough calls for a month.

I’m going for 10 days next month, and my plan is to just pay the extra $5 a day with my Aussie carrier. That way, I get the convenience of not having to worry about changing my SIM/phone number. I think anything past 10 days breaks the tipping point where it becomes cheaper to look into a NZ pre-paid SIM.

Last year I bought a travel SIM through Australia Post, and it seemed to chew through credit quite rapidly. I would suggest staying away from that option.

With the apparent increase in BORDER FORCE!!!11 insisting on their completely necessary checking of passenger phones, I'm seriously contemplating a burner phone and a prepaid Vodafone NZ sim when I land. Any good deals to be had over there at the moment?

    WTF?
Do you mean mobiles having to be placed in the checked luggage?

The place we’re staying at offers up to 5GB free per day per device. I can handle waiting until the evening to go online. After all, the day is for skiing, not for posting selfies on social media. :)

We always use 2degrees. Highly recommended and very economical !

$19 covers what we need for 10 days.

For what it's worth, I found 2degrees coverage patchier than Spark.

Combined with the anorexic data allotment you get with that home plan when roaming. If you don't want to worry about waiting for wi-fi (it isn't always free, nor is it always any good) then it is a no-brainer IMO.

It has never troubled us but that might be more good luck.

We keep the cards active so can recharge on line the next year when we go again.

you sure. i think that i still get free roaming on my 365 prepaid. at least i did in germany in may18.

i think that the $5/day gives you the same as if you are in Australia.
