The idea of this is to set up a meeting point on the mountain that would become an active Moosh Pick Up Point for 10 minutes each day. What makes this an interesting idea is that minimal prior arrangements are required to meet people.

For example, lets say that the top of Federation lift (or nearby) is the Moosh Pick Up Point at 9.20am and lasts 5 to 10 minutes. No planning is required, all you have to do is make sure that you get there on time and wait for 5-10 minutes. If no one comes, you assume that no one is available for that day and continue on skiing/boarding. If some people do actually arrive, you could assume that they are looking for a Moosher to ski/slide with and offer to ski with them for the day and then off you go.

The paragraph is just an example, but it gives you an idea what could happen.

Any opinions? Would this work? Just an idea, some inputs would be good. [IMG]

EDIT: **Attention Mods**, is it a good idea to move this thread to the main snow talk or should it be left here? I think tickers75's suggestion could help people discuss about this idea more freely without being restricted to Mt Buller. Care to make the move or should it stay?

Damn, I hate it when people steal my ideas! I've been thinking along similar lines, only my idea was a Moosh badge - that way you could spot fellow Mooshers anywhere on the mountain, at any time.

    Over to you Mr Dunlop

I know shouting is a no no but this is a GREAT idea! I've moved from interstate and 99% of the time have no one to hit the snow with. Makes the driving and the time on the snow a little boring. Like to see if this takes off....Like the idea of "official" badges too [IMG]

Maybe this could get posted in one of the main forums..i.e snowtalk to get more exposure?

Maybe a separate thread in each resort forum with a meeting place relevant to each place.

We used to do this in Vail, everyone would swing by the top of Chair 11 at 11 and it worked really well.

For Buller I'd recommend the deck of Kofflers at 10:30 - gives you time to get your favourite first tracks in, is a good time for morning tea but still plenty of the day left to ski with friends.

If we reach consensus I will sticky the thread.

So any suggestion on where the meeting point could be? Kofflers? Horse Hill (The Spur)? Summit?

What time would be perfect? Lifts (generally) open at 9am, so should there be an hour leeway or should it be earlier so that people can do the first tracks together?

Yeah Koflers sounds good, on the deck or just outside. Will keep an eye on the thread too.

Tied to the kitchen sink apparently, so the +1 say
Would be a bit hard if you did make the meeting point on the deck at Kofflers, trying to sift through the amount of people and still having to ask if they are ski.commers.

My simple suggestion is make it a place where you are not likely to get a group of people and near a run that is open a considerable amount of the season.

What a great idea, I wish it had been done before at some time! [IMG]

And why is it over to Ian D, 1. Print Logo, 2. Laminate Logo, 3. Attach to pack/jacket.

A word of warning....not everyone on here is worth meeting!!

We would love to catch up. We come up from down the hill each morning so 10.30 at Koflers would suit skigirl and me. Had a great weekend Summit Haqua was a treat from the top on both saturday and Sunday. All should have been there.

    this is a great idea
i do day trips from the bellarine penninsular by my loansome and to meet up with other sno info guys and gals would be a great way to enjoy the day
what about the top of helicopter chair or is it the abom now days??
no one ever uses it so it would be a good spot to meet at the 10.30 time each day
    my 2 cents

I have made the thread a sticky - P & S if everyone decides Kofflers at 10:30 is the go, edit your first post and maybe even the thread title.

Will leave the thread open so people can post if they will make it the following day & what they are wearing etc.

Just a suggestion, why not do this:

    Mt Hotham 10.30am HELI PAD
    Mt Buller 10.30am HELI PAD/area
    Falls Ck 10.30am HELI PAD

That way we keep it always consistent between all 3 major players on any given day????

Also saves on the embarrasment, should there be others hanging by..

YOU: Heya you here for the chopper?
PUNTER: Yes got a 10.30 flight...

    next person...

    YOU: Heya when's your flight?
PUNTER: Not today, meeting some Sic/Moosh barsteads!

    Wham bam...

If by Helipad she means the old Heli Chair, which is now called Abom. It's in a bermuda triangle of traffic at that time of day, whereas Kofflers is out on the mountain.

I understand the posts regarding how to recognise who, but I think this could be overcome by posting in advance if you expect to be there, and what you will be wearing.

Another day or so and I'll make an executive decision and make it official and permanent.

I think a spot near the top of the Howqua chair would be the best spot. Koflers would just be too busy. Top of Howqua is about as central as you could make it so people could come from any place to be there at the designated time without too much hassle.

Wow, didn't know that people were actually interested in my ideas! This is great!

    Current listing of possible places:
    -Kofflers
    -Top of Howqua
    -Bottom of Helicopter/ABOM
    -Anywhere else?

By Helipad re: Buller, I mean out far behind BB2 where the chopper lands, not official on mtbuller.com.au website, rather marked.

Reason why I suggested all Heli spot regions on the big 3 resorts is:

    1. easy to remember
    2. easy to locate
    3. less traffic to find other mooshers
    4. you don't look like a despo/hobbo waiting for the next bus to come
    5. usually tucked near good runs/routes to them
    6. by 10.30am one is not pi55ed off for treking back to village areas and the punterville of society, refer to point 5.

    Cheers.

Yeah what Fangin' Wolvy said. I like the Heli at all 3 resorts idea.

BTW - Once people agree on a place, we should have a permanent Moosher meeting point thread, so that there's one place that people can go to find everything they need about meeting fellow Mooshers at their favourite resorts.

Since this is the Buller discussion I think Kofflers at Buller would be the easiest. Good time for a hot chocy at around 10:30

Some of us will have snowwatch beanies soon so that will help find some of the others.

The issue with not having a meeting place located near a building at Buller is the place often gets very Foggy. some of us (non regulars to Buller) aren't too keen about getting lost on the top during a whiteout looking for a helipad area.

Also, having it at a place that you are allowed indoors helps when the weather is really bad (like today's gale force winds with snow) you could meet inside or at the very least, watch out the windows for someone to go to the meeting place.

Finally, you have to make sure the location is going to be accessible most of the time (serviced by snowmaking and a lift) so that if it's slightly down hill, we can catch the lift back up (not everyone has ski's)

I can't see it working at Koflers. It just gets too busy inside and on the deck.

Only way you could make it Koflers would be to have a laminated sign somewhere on the back of the building (t-bar side) that is away from the bulk of the crowds.

On a weekend perhaps, but not typically around 10:30. in good weather most people are out on the east side deck having coffee. check the webcam history, usually 1 or 2 people tops at any given time under that cam!

    Koflers wont work.
What happens when only BB1 and BB2 are opened, early in season/end of season/poor season?

It's gotta be outside Abom, to the left side, under the shelter, where reservations is???? I personally don't prefer to take off my skis, it's 10.30am according to the village clock give or take 5 mins either side, ie. 10.25-10.35am or I'm outta there...

    Cheers.

I think this Moosh Meeting Point is a great idea too, and with Planks & Sticks' permission, and I'm adapting his thread in "Arrangements" and turning it into a Portal thread to direct people to "Official" Moosh Meeting Point within specific resorts' sub-forums. I've done this now for Hotham (sorry for putting this in a Buller thread, but this is the thread where the original idea was mooted). [IMG] Hope to run into some of you folks at Kofler's in Buller!

Just the old name of what this board used to be called. Moosh is also an Aussie slang for "Talk" in some cases.

    I've GOT IT!!!

Stand on the balcony bench/chair next to the ledge that is in full view of the cam!!! it wont look too conspicuous (will look like you're trying to take a photo or just looking out for a good view) and will most likely not be done by anyone who doesn't know about meeting up!
