We went for a look out at tate yesterday, top of rydge line from gills was usual rhyme, tate itself was a little dissapointing as the sun must have done its thing the day b4. Tate was dust in breakable crust.
The run from gills knobs was much better, maby 15cm of sugar.

All in all a beautiful day out.

Mrs ripping it up on right

    Looking toward twynam etc

    Yeah its good fun.
The traverse split back up from tate to near gills knobbs was very challenging in the firm conditions.

That main Tate face is random. One day you think it should be wind scoured much and its fresh all the way to the top. Another when you think it will be fresh its wind scoured crap. Hard to pick. Makes the good days all the more special.

Mmmm, I'm a bit confused by this. Sounds like you may have started the climb a bit high up the valley, because there are always some good traverse sections on Tate face proper. But lower down the valley there is a really nice drainage just next to 'powder stash ridge'. This is the last area where the vegetation extends all the way down the face. This drainage meanders up in a direction towards Gills Knob and is generally a pretty easy climb.

That's about how we did it last year. Dropped from Guthega Trig side to the north of the drainage then skinned up from the valley floor. Pretty mellow ascent.

Im not real sure, we did comee up a valley/creek line from the lower creek but needed to zig a little due to conditions.
Either way the firmer conditions made it a little tricky. Most likely due to my poor technique ;)
