I'm a Kiwi hoping to get my first taste of Australian boarding this season so I'm doing a bit of investigating and then I find out you have to pay $40 just to get on the mountain before you even pay for lift passes etc.
    This is totally bogus!!
I've boarded in NZ, Canada and the USA on about 15 different fields and I've never had this issue anywhere else before.
I'm not overly surprised though as on a recent trip to Tasmania we were stung with having to pay money to go into their parks too.
    STRAYA!

Is there any way of getting a season pass to the national park on Bulla to save having to fork out 40 f*ng dollars every trip?
Or is there someone who made this decision I can punch in the face on my way to buying my ticket to NZL slopes that aren't run by snakes?

Ah , no John, no need to punch anyone in the face. See we have roads up to out ski resorts with Tar and road signs and railings. These things don't come cheap so you pay your money.
You do realise that it costs twice that if you a) are not Australian b) rides snowboard or c) come across as a bogan goose.
This could get expensive for you on a sheep hearders wage . Best stick to the club fields there bud.

we have roads up to our resorts in NZL :S and so too do they in Canada and the States so...
I've found that generally a day on the snow costs around a hundred bucks where ever you go, except in Australia it seems, where the snow isn't really that good, you have to pay a $40 greed tax... where is the logic?
I think I'll go back to my annual trip to NZ as it just doesn't add up to board in Aussie.

Or you could go to Japan where it costs $60 for a day on the snow...... Japan's a similar shape to NZ, so that could be a bonus......

I went indoor skiing in Adeliade once.
That was expensive and no where near as good as skiing at MtBuller.

To answer the main question - yes there is a season pass and from memory it is about $280

Funny part is I can't wait until he learns about the taxis! :out:

No, you're right, it's a dirty rip-off. I'd say don't go to Buller but the same sort of rort applies anywhere ('cept you don't cop the taxis anywhere else - lookup 'Mount Buller Bus Lines', taxis can be avoided by parking at Mansfield/Mirimbah and getting a bus for a fee).

Other resorts allow you to drive to (or very close to) your lodge.

At least you can stay on mountain bro!

Imagine what it is like living here now that there is no skiing any more. Although that means it is easier to save money to pay for resort entry fee and taxis at Buller.

Funny you should say that Jon, let's do a quick check of NZ resorts as of today shall we?
    Coronet Peak - closed.
    Remarkables - closed.
    Treble Cone - closed.
    Cardrona - closed.
    Snowfarm - closed.
    Mt Hutt - closed.
    Cheeseman - closed.
    Craigieburn - closed.
    Porters Hts - closed.
    Broken River - closed.
    Temple Basin - closed.

Now let's compare that with Australia where the last month has been - awesome? epic? I can't decide which is more appropriate.

    Oh, dear.

Take all the cheap shots you want but at the end of the day, it is shit they charge you to be on the mountain which both takes advantage of the people who can't afford the big one off expense to go overseas for better conditions and also makes the ones who could afford it but are too apathetic to avoid it, look like suckers.

Well you see , it's all based on the Australian marino sheep, on which Australia is built.

Let me explain using a case study:
A few weeks ago, speaking to a day tripper who usually goes to another mountain.
Well he did his wait at the Mirrimbah gate for the not uncommon 45 minutes , then payed up for the privilege.
Got on the hill , presumably caught a bus to the village square , then did an hour wait for the privilege of buying lift tickets. Then got skiing by about 10:45, despite an early start, then presumably bought some overpriced food on the hill.

How has that got anything to do with Merino sheep. Well by the end of the day, he and his family were completed fleeced.
