$50 to ride Tank Hill today! Some fresh snow in the morning but the wind was fierce around the summit area. Some good accumulation in more sheltered spots. Top section of Champagne was very nice and also top of Maltese, until I lost a ski (no leash, must rectify). Boot deep along the side of the run.

    VERY windy.
Snow looking a bit patchy down low, hard to say what it looks like at the top of the runs. Hopefully get a chance to check them out tomorrow!

Must be dumping on BB going by the weather down below, although it would be nice if the snowcams were working properly and/or being kept clear of snow/ice!

Absolutely puking ... and has not stop since last night.
I reckon we are up to about 40cm at a guess.
Snowed in at the moment ... road up the hill is closed!

Great news for BB during hols - they haven't had many good sch holiday snowfalls in recent years.

A shame about the road - are they trying to plough? I hope its the size of the dump & not budget?

There was 28cm on my outdoor tablle about 1/2 hour ago, and now some clown has flattened it, but it's still snowing!

Hope to make it up next Sunday with 50 cm + on must runs??

The road crew are working their guts out, last I heard, 2WD were not allowed up at all, had to park at ticket box and catch a shuttle bus
2WD were allowed down in convoys!
Tomorrow will be access for all!

Tomorrow is the day to ski BawBaw.
Stashes in the trees and Groomed runs for those that like the groomers.

Road opened again early evening but too late to leave by the time we dug out our cars. And pretty treacherous driving down thst snow covered hill in the dark.
Reports are snow to Tanjil Bren :)

When the snow is good, Baw Baw is a fun little hill. Kids (once they learn to ride the drag lifts) really love it.

Yep I remember going to Baw Baw for school ski camps. Was amazing how many laps you could do in a full day. With all surface lifts also you would be absolutely buggered by the end of the day. So close to Melbourne also.

Yep, I remember how a day like today you would just forget about all the pomas and T-bars and just ski the chairlift all day. Easily the best lift at Mt Baw Baw and I was lucky to ski to the bottom of it twice. RIP.

hey folks, planning on making a trip to Baw Baw tomorrow or Thursday and am trying to decide on which road, any advice?
Have taken the tourist rd before and the kids were at the point of spewing! The South Face Road sounds much straighter but almost 30kms on gravel.

The chairlift to the bottom was over-rated. The first half is great but after that it become a thin road (at best). What was worse, at the end it just ended and you had to get down this steep section to the road somehow. It was the glory of doing it though that made it worth it.

Chowder, my advise is if you want to get there faster, take the regular road (not south face). IMO, South Face is over-rated unless you get really road sick easily.

Where are you coming from Notadub?
The South Face Road, although gravel is frequently graded and is currently in good nick, just watch for loose gravel on some bends

Sorry Grozzy, the South Face Road, although longer is actually faster than going via the Tourist Road
Some folks don't like subjecting their car to a bit of mud, but at least the road is wider and is not as badly affected by city 4WD owners who seem to think the Tourist Road is one way!

If it is windy ... definitely South Face.
Love the Tourist Road but falling trees in the wind ... not fun.

    On another note ...
Skied Hut, Summit, Champagne, Maltese and Ridge runs.
The snow is deep and awesome.
The Village looks fantastic ... like a real winter wonderland.
Back up on Saturday (for fun this time) I think :)

Think that advice was meant for Notadub.

But thanks anyway, that's the way I take when I head up there. The roads not that bad, fun to drive actually

Invited to a day trip to Baw Baw with the family today. There was snow below the bottom of the old chairlift line, and the village was completely snowbound. After the number of stacks I had at Buller on Monday I decided to take another lesson to fix technique. Snow softened in the afternoon and the sun came out, giving perfect conditions to practice. Despite this morning's report, only 4 lifts were turning - surprisingly Summit was the lift not running. All runs that were open had an excellent cover with essentially no exposed rocks/ground. Even Slalom was in good shape, made some very good turns on there and Champagne.

The mountain is looking amazing, with more snow on the way this is shaping up to be a great season!

Anyone know how much of the total length of nordic ski trails in the village and park are groomed or are expected to be groomed by the weekend, and if there is a grooming/trail report anywhere for the nordic skiing? Do they only groom in the resort or in the park as well?

As of today's report, the 10km of resort XC trails have not been groomed, and no grooming occurs outside of the resort boundary. More info on their website, or give them a ring for possibility of weekend grooming.

The bottom section would have been a bit thin, but otherwise there would have been no problems cover wise. Might be an issue now given they put an MTB trail there, but I haven't tried it so I don't know where it goes.

We ended up going up Tuesday via Erica and the South Face Road. This way got the thumbs up from me and all my passengers and would be the same driving time as via Neerim South, it was a much easier drive with no switch backs or hairpins and no sign of car sickness from the kids. I'd also bet I used less fuel. Also only saw 2 cars on the way up and less than 10 on the return at 4:30.
We'll be going back next week and following this weeks trip my eldest wants to try skiing again after breaking her leg at Buller in 2010.

Up at baw baw today, mega icy first up but just starting to soften up enough to have a bit of fun. Getting patchy in busy areas and need some snow this week. A few fun small rails set up but that's about it as far as a park goes.

Agreed jdog! Was up there yesterday as well. Brilliant weather - sunshine for most of the day with just a little cloud mid afternoon. Good coverage top to bottom. Lots of youngsters enjoying the school holidays but not too crowded, with lift lines short. Asked one of the towies what it was like working for Belgravia. She said that it was a bit too early to tell yet. Now that I really am an "oldie", it was great getting free gate entry and a $40 seniors tow ticket! :)

    It was actually quite good.
Bit icy in the morning, softened a little in the sun as the day went on and some of the runs got a bit heavy and slow by days end. But it is DEEP, well covered, and if you want to go hunting in the trees there is plenty of snow there too.
Some spots that we were marking as hazards last weekend we're well and truly buried.

Champagne was my favorite run of the Day, and surprisingly not a lot of traffic down there.
Big Hill was fun too, but it was a bit chopped up by the end of the day. Lots of beginners at the bottom.

All in all, a lot of fun to be had, close to home, getting the snow legs ready for a week at Hotham starting next weekend.
    Definitely worth the trip :)

Great that you got up there JLou. Good photos, too. But I have to report that Thurs and Friday were the picks, with fresh dry snow across the whole hill and almost no-one there. Nice to share a coffee with a couple of ski.com regulars at Kelly's. Crowds were crazy on Sat and the weather cleared, so I headed out onto the plateau. Followed Marco's tracks through the tors to St Phillack Saddle for lunch. The blue saints trail is not marked, nor is the T Glen trail. Met just 5 people out there, 2 of them patrollers from Gwinear. Great touring conditions after a couple of days in the resort.

Yes, @chriscross, I an imagine that you did get the pick of the days! I was chatting with one of the Food and Beverage Managers and he said during the week was almost dead.
August I can spend many a mid week day up there :)

Friday was great skiing although the weather was a little bit ordinary. Intermittent snow (of the sharp ice crystals variety), and fog with some wind. Snow cover was excellent and, as others have said, not many people around. Can imagine that Saturday and today would have been very busy

Had a pretty good day yesterday for my second attempt at XC. Found the Summit trail to be chewed up by many footprints which made it hard for me to maintain balance, although I am not yet good at that anyway, especially when going down a steep bit. Tried some off track stuff and promptly fell over a couple of times much to my wife's amusement. Discovered my walking poles do not replace my ski poles very well. The view from Mueller's lookout was fantastic, and I assume it is Buller that you can see off to one's left? Visitation was through the roof, although not that many on the XC trails, although I did have to compete with a couple of snowboarders coming down at speed! All up, a fun day.

Yup, Serenity. Buller is pretty much due north of Baw Baw and Muellers looks in a north-easterly direction so it was most likely that you could see Buller.

Great day today. Wasn't sure what to expect with the natural depth being reported as 15cm. But the snowmakers must have been working overtime to give a great unbroken cover! Not sure why the media and the snow-australia website don't report snow making depth. If they did it would give a much more favourable impression.:)
