Snow cams on their web site stuck on 30 April, every other resort can have them working, get your act together Baw Baw
New look to their website this year, not working very well for me!
And they brought them back up for today.
One new cam this year which is HD.
@Charlie can you pls confirm my description in the 'About' tab.
Last year's was a shocker, this is an improvement, though... no snowcam thumbnails is a total rookie mistake.
Hope they fix it up soon, not a good look for then when basic stuff isn’t working on a flash looking new website. I still can’t see the new cam, hut roll. Not sure if the new name is a spelling mistake or what!
Thank you just read your message above. Working for me now.
No mistake and nothing fancy, just refers to the roll/drop near the bottom of the run.
Also one of the few spots on the mountain to do big jumps, me about 94.
Yeah, looks about right!
On their website an image from yesterday is currently displayed, showing good cover, not the image from ski.com above which shows the effects of heavy rain today. Why would this be so?
Should I assume the answer to be self evident?
they seem similar at the moment!
How's the cover at Baw Baw? Anything likely to be skiable tomorrow? Especially if r@#$ is forecast...
Yeah I just saw the last cam image for today... mud pit.
What's with their new website? You go to the cams and then you have to click on them again to open them up. Not impressed at all with the overall layout and usability, not much better than the previous one.
Ah, the Serenity.
I wonder if they intend to kick the site into first gear after or nearer the opening date like they often do in Japan.
anyone think that baw baw will have enough snow to ride on by queens birthday weekend/season opening
Wot a great first post!
Such a guessing game so early in the season. Potential snow system coming through mid next week could (emphasis on COULD) play ball and give us some snow to ski on for the long weekend. Stay tuned
I doubt there will be enough to open any thing decent.
But if you can see through the glare, it looks like they are trying hard with their new snow factory to have something. Will most likely only be enough for snowplay and maybe beginners lessons.
They are doing well considering the temps we've had.
That's precisely why they acquired the slushy machine. Doesn't really matter what temperature it is.
Was a good move for them. Hope they have a better season this year.
This guy looks as though he's having fun!
Not often I think this, but Baw Baw for the win!
Yep hats off to them. They have hut run open to tower 2. Plenty for beginners and snow play.
Woops ! Today's Natural Snow Depth is 0 cm, not 40 cm. Please correct.
We also would appreciate no fiddling with Snow Cams updating this season.
Man up ! Report more like a ski club, not like a government spin factory.
Congratulations on your snowmaking, by the way.
Doesn't look like they've taken any notice of your comment, Bawbawbel. This morning's report of natural snow depth is 35cm, which is patently wrong (more like 3 cm max). Skiers and boarders hate this sort of deceptive reporting. Appreciate the snow-making effort but get your act together, Baw Baw!
They've fixed it:
I raised the issue with there claims of record snow depths on Facebook last year, however instead of admitting I was right apparently 1992 is a long time ago and doesn't count.
Come on BawBaw, build some trust, 35cm of natural snow just can not be true. I will ski on 6cm in desperation but let it be real 6cm!
Oh I don't miss putting up/rolling up those fences!
Great work on the snow/slush making Awesome effort!
Looking fabulous today, thank you snow gods! 358cm of natural snow at Baw Baw according to report! Gear in car ready to go but where - LM or Baw Baw? Please Baw Baw, please update info! At this rate were heading to LM as the info is not clear enough, snow cams look good but are the trails even open?
Its looking good today (sat 16/6) still only Hut Run to tower 2, but they also have tank hill carpet open and the new toboggan carpet. Snow is still falling and if there is a decent drop tonight tank hill will open tomorrow
Any people on mountain to give an update of what it may be like tomorrow?
No change since Darzee's post, except they may have made some tonight!
Three and a half metres!!! That would be epic!
Snow was coming down when I left today...if the forecast comes through over night it maybe a struggle to get up the hill first thing...
Remember when the tips were full of kitchen updates which were never installed because of confusion between cm and mm ? The actual reported depth is 35 meters. They can turn off the slushy machine.
Well we decided to trust the LM report of 4cm, than 356cm at BB; I think they got it wrong too as it was much much better and was great skiing without a lot of grooming. Baw Baws trails tend to need more cover as the trails have more rock/ sticks, but when it's good it is truly sensational: it's such beautiful bush. Today should be good, looks like a big dump. Please BB give good reliable updates on the trails this season.
Cams are looking amazing. Get up there if you can.
Sunday 17/6: lots of fresh snow around, tank hill has opened and ski patrol is inspecting Hut Run to the top with an expected open around 11am. Summit will be next
I will definitely drop in if BawBaw will agree to the following rules:
1. Like Hotham, organise to start lifts promptly at 8.30 instead of beginning run survey and hazard marking followed by grooming on closed runs for the whole day, so we don't need to cool our heels and watch the new snow go off before we get at it.
2. After you got a base, leave 2 meters ungroomed after a fall each side of runs like in the old days. Free icecream !
3. Smooth out the lift paths every few hours. You are supposed to cater to my beginners, not frustrate them !!
Yes! Totally agree with the above. The main reason we haven’t been much in the last two years. Did one wicked Wednesday last year with fresh snow, when Maltese was open and not many punters. Was an awesome day.
Monday 18/6: summit is open to the top, maltese is next by friday depending on staff. A good cover of snow fell overnight and the groomers have left it alone so I got first tracks on both Hut and Summit. Unfortunately the weather has turned and its now r**ning making everything sopping and sticky. I'm going to go have a coffee and hope it stops
Thanks for the report, Darzee. Thinking of heading up tomorrow but your report of r**n means I'll carefully reassess in the morning. If I get up there, I'll leave a report here.
Being annoyed with Baw Baw and their dodgy reporting of natural snow depths, yesterday (Tuesday) we decided to go cross-country skiing at Mt St Gwinear instead. Got a nice surprise with snow conditions, especially with snow depth and coverage, which meant we could ski all the way to the rock shelter, with zero issues. About 10 cm left at carpark, meaning it's likely to be marginal by the weekend.
