Time to start the 2020 thread

For those who haven't seen it yet, Baw Baw will not be offering season parking passes at all this year and entry must be paid for each visit.
    https://mountbawbaw.com.au/resort-entry
This is odd considering Buller, Hotham and Falls are still offering (and honouring) season parking passes.
I doubt i'll be up much this year if i have to pay for every day

Even more so when Baw Baw has the most expensive day pass (granted, their multi-day pass isn't so bad, but still).

I might still end up there, purely so I can put Mr 4 into snowboard lessons again.

And a new announcement (to me): no All Resorts Passes, due to Covid-19 restrictions. This could make for a very expensive, or very limited season.
Meanwhile, the cams show almost nothing at all from yesterday's system, whereas Buller and even LM got some white goodness.

That one seems inherently bizzare. If the resorts are actually restricting entry to those who hold a valid lift pass, then an unlimited access pass for a vehicle shouldn't be a problem. :/

I suspect the resorts want to control numbers and don't want ARP holders just rocking up whenever they choose (as I like to do). So that won't be happening very much. Could be a Gwinear sort of year.

30 cm of fresh, 2 hrs away, not allowed to go, new dps CA 94. Axls fitted to Voile Vector bcs. Not allowed to go. Somehow, deal with it.

Yes, this sucks the big one, 2020 is a shite sandwich of a year. Mt. St. Gwinear would be totally skiable. Now the BB resort has shut.
    :-((
This is like May 2020 when we had 50 cms at Dinner Plain and were not allowed to go there. Now the snow finally shows up again just in time for the next round of being locked up in Stalag 13 and being sent slowly but surely insane.o_O:cry::(

FOMO , frustration and despondency are building amongst fair minded ski enthusiasts after this monumental dump of powder snow at various Vic. locations.
Consider locals who live at places such as Flinders and Rye. Surfing has been totally banned on the Mornington Peninsula :-0 .

We Plague i stanis are getting lots of staying at home done. I have my STFAH season pass that won't be cancelled. I used to grumble about the 3 hour drive home from the Baw Baw N.P. after a day on planks . I shall never grumble about it again.

think of it like this, give up one year now, and then don't die, get to ski many more years later
with so much more appreciation for every one of them.

I have skied about 4 days this year . I have a 25 days on planks per year rule. I exceeded that last year. That means next ski season I must ski 40 days at least !

It looks fully sick. Deep dry powdery untracked continuous cover.
I would hazard to guess you could ski from MSG car park to BB village, eat lunch and ski back , no dramas....and no one is allowed to ski on it !!....

This is my friends an outrage!

Thankfully the Baw Baws have not been burnt for a long time. Mt.Buffalo's snow gums are toast out near the Horn and Lake Mtn. will takes decades for its snow gums to grow back properly.

Looks to be coming down thick and fast up there now. If only!
Meanwhile, I just don't understand how people can make light-hearted, irreverent comments re: bushfires. As a kid, I spent a lot of holiday time at Marysville, where my aunt and uncle ran a family owned guest house. All gone, never to be the same and many lives lost. They don't make bushfire jokes up there, or around Kinglake.

It is disappointing that Baw baw has stoped the daily snow depth report! Even though we cant go for a ski, I still like to know the amount of snow fall. The others still have daily updates on their webpages so surely Baw baw could do the same. I cant believe that there is absolutely no-one there. They should at-least have a webcam on a depth stick.:(

;) Yes. Last time I was up there last season, perhaps I should have measured the height of the fire-pit. That would have given me a pretty good idea. Might even be worth a trip up in summer to do that!:)

I am going up to the Baw Baw N.P. in green season to scout out the Mt. St. Phillack saddle to Mt. Whitelaw area and possibly the Stronarch's campsite too. Finding Jann's hut seems like a worthy adventure too.

The State Govt. cannot lock us all up for the whole green season. That is not going to work. There will be a strong push back against that.

The public mental illness ramifications will exceed those of the actual virus.
I am not happy. I don't know anyone who loves bushwalking / skiing/ surfing/ swimming outdoors who lives in Melb. who is happy about being stuck at home with no option for solo or a plus one spot of recreation in the Vic. Alps or at a surf beach or a national park .
I don 't know of anyone who has lost their job/business due to the the lockdowns who is happy.
I do not know any one in the performing arts ( my field) who is happy to have no audience nor a viable outlet for their life's whole work.
I do not know of anyone who is single who lives alone whose mental health has taken a severe turn for the worse during this year who is happy about remaining cut off from interacting with other people altogether.

Anyway Baw Baw looks good for skiing and some more snow is coming on Friday 4/9/20.

It's total madness. They're going to destroy this country. The rest of the world is sheepishly moving on, while we remain trapped by past rhetoric and logic and the cowardice of our politicians.

It's a public health crisis. You should be more attuned to the view of the health professional who posted earlier. The last comments above are completely over the top, irrational as well as irrelevant to this thread. Such extreme political opinions should be expressed somewhere else, if at all.

Baw Baw is not charging fees for front gate entry anymore for 2020.
So some lucky forum members will be XC skiing this weekend and Monday up there what with this snow fall coming and all. Wheel Chains will be mandatory for this coming weekend at Baw Baw.

Looks to me like Monday would be the day. Hypothetically, of course. Our virtual xc skier would need to somehow bypass a (reported) check point at Nar Nar Goon (no aboriginal names between Dandenong and Warragul, except maybe Bunyip). Will dear leader Dan see fit to extend our range on Sunday? Somehow, I doubt it. But virtual xc skier has been confined for some time. Awaits cams. Hypothesising.
