Team Bears were not game to even suggest that....

I feel that the build design is not something that needs to be strictly adhered too here with this particularly Hut.Though the louvred windows are cute ....well they are not very functional....
We really need thick glass or possibly double glazing to keep max insulation ......

Sometimes we just need to let go of the past ....and move forward with the newest technologies at our disposal.

Alas Team Bears have no idea how to work a GPS!!

Oh I see they have a clear sheet of plastic corrugated roofing! So a modification at least utilising more modern materials.

Dershko's hut in the KNP has double glazing. It is very innovative me thinks and rather sensible. Ed.s hut is as cold a Spud Dutton's conscience. I think a mild upgrade would not be out of place. I know some forum members will start a war dance when they read this but fooey on them.

    Yes and yes!

Dershkos though on the small side has always been known as a good comfortable shelter.

A bigger version of this design would go down well with Team Bears.

My a Mt Wills Construction but without cement sheet would be amazing!

You really need the insulation value....so stumble in....regardless of a fire(wood stove) and jump in sleeping bag and you know you will warm up over time!

We beg forgiveness for venturing off the Highplains to highlight the pros of a Mt Wills installation !
Yep cannot get much colder than minister Duttons persona!

Mt. Wills hut is full of asbestos sheeting. Yes, lets do that everywhere. Nongs.

Edmondons has been left the way it is to discourage routine use as accomodation. The intention being to maintain an emergency level of shelter only.

The fire place was modified specifically to reduce the chances of it being burned down. Parks were well aware folks would stoke up the biggest fire possible in the old fire place and at some point acted to preserve the hut.

I recollect these issues being covered in a Management Plan some time.

Well it’s not a very well thought out management plan!
It’s more like a temporary measure rather than a solution??
The reason they build up the fire to mamouth proportions is because it’s a freezing dive of a construction. Many forum members have mentioned this.So it needs insulation and a radicle woodstove conversion like Weston’s or Roper’s Hut.
It would be impossible to burn down either of these rebuilt huts unless you were an arsonist because of the layout of the new stoves.
The management plan needs to be revisited....this existing management plan is not very suitable.
    Cheers...Team Bears
We need functional huts....a more practical solution needs to put into practice !
Monies squandered on that Watchbed Ck construction could and should have been earmarked for Edmunsons.

Parks needs to get its priorities sorted quick smart!

PV have no money. Premier Dan Andrews doesn't give a fig about nature, not one flying coitus. Did you know that only 0.5 % of the VIC. state budget goes towards Parks in VIC.?. If it wasn't for volunteers officially and unofficially doing some maintenance work on huts, hiking and skiing access routes etc. the situation would be worse for regular park users.
