@luvthabumps Thanks for the update. Will pass it on. Sigh, I can already hear the winging from some (not us) about the change in location. Apparently there was a bit of a hissy fit when Woodrun was mentioned. They should just appreciate having enough snow. Anyway looking forward to watching dual moguls. NSW Junior event is the first time I have watched them live and it is pretty exciting, especially when the crowd get involved and madly cheer etc.

I am in Japan atm and fly back to Melb in time to go up to Buller for this. Will be a bit of a climate shock as it is warm and humid here.

And what happened at interschools? Did someone do what I think would give them a full DSQ?

After 11am only Blue Bullet, Skyline, Tirol, North Side and maybe Bonza were open due to high wind.

Summit is great from a spectator POV and it's a longer course with a good steep section after the top air. They did do it skiers left of Summit fence a few years back and it wasn't a very tough course but skiers right of the chair is a good course IMHO.

and if you were perhaps thinking that someone corked out a 720 and might have got a bit too far around the axis then you would be right ;)

We had a bit of a free bumps expression session in the sun of Wood Run with all the TBR kids and some of the old timers (read parents inc mrs LTB ) on Sat arvo. There's a bunch of photos on FB if you or your boy are friends with any of the TBR kids or coaches. Lots of old school gear - some of the kids were busting out big iron X 360's and Cosacks on 220cm straight skis - very impressive and a hoot of an afternoon.

Ok so I will enjoy the view. I have only been to Buller once so the local info is appreciated.

ah yes just a bit to far of axis then. There was close to a similar incident up here recently. Sounds like they were unlucky but rules are rules.

Will have to look for those pics on FB. Always good when people are just having fun. Came across a vid of Mohawk Kobayashi recently  Sounds like it may have been similar.

Baldy/Bourke St is mainly full of beginners and can be quite a zoo, particularly on the tail of interschool crowds. Beginner boarders tend to scrape the snow down into moguls which makes it even more difficult for beginners, both boarders or skiers.

Lifties sure need to be on the ball, especially on beginner lifts.

A couple of weeks ago after lunch in the village, we had a close call riding Holden back to Southside. Some bloke sat there cluelessly enjoying the footrest even when it was time to lift the bar. We said feet a couple of times, but he remained oblivious even when we yelled "lift your feet. Your feet"!

By that stage, even the liftie was yelling at this dude before grabbing his feet and shoving them off the bar so we could raise it to get off. We were already at the turn wheel by then and had to jump off the chair. Fortunately we were fine and skied off, but unsurprisingly, this dude ended up sprawled on the snow and the liftie had to clear him out of the way of the next chair. Could have been quite a domino effect.

That's not a terrain park, it's the course for the ABOM Mogul Challenge this weekend.

I'm shitty they've scraped all the snow off the top of the Fast One for it and I hope they put it back.

We've had an awesome week here up at buller! A bit of everything weather wise to start with Windhold on almost everything Monday, followed by fresh snow Tuesday and bluebird for the next few days. Overall the snow has been fantastic with almost everything encountered from some nice drifts, to fresh fast groomed into springtime fun. Summit just skiers right of the abom course was great today as was ever reliable little buller, with the Lower elevations getting slushy into the afternoon thanks to the lovely sunshine. Big shout out to the liftie at the top of the Bourke st magic carpet on Tuesday who sprinted from his post to do a classic dive that the channel 9 commentary team would be proud of, to snag a runaway snowboard, awesome job! But seriously if it's got a leash use the damn thing!! That board could've killed someone if not for the liftie's quick actions! There's plenty of life left in the mountain yet, I'm just sad I have to finish up tomorrow.

Yeah we are happy. scottski should be also be a happy dad. Someone is making a pretty good comeback.

Hey that is great spot to watch the moguls. And there was some really close competition. The women's final in particular was sooo close.

The glaciers will be fine but I wouldn't hold out too much hope for the areas that are predominantly natural snow.

Are the buller cam images stored anywhere for historical use? I thought it would be interesting to compare images on Burnt Hut today with a few days ago for example.

My last three days this season from tomorrow until Saturday. Son can't make it with me so I'll be skiing around on my own. Hope to get a private lesson while I'm there and hope I don't bugger myself out on the first day. One of the benefits of skiing with the snowboarding son is the compulsory 'wait while bindings get done up' break at the top of each lift. LOL

Looks like my hunch paid off.
Staying overnight for a few days in July for the first time in decades (just in case I was dreaming we had lots of snow) turned out to be a well worth it
4 days total during the best of it.
Better than I got last year.

Sorry mate. Didn't see your post until just now or would have tried to catch up.

What can I say? Had a private lesson with Macca on Thurs morning in the rain. Wet by 10am. Went into the Arlberg and spent 2 hours drying out. The rain stopped. Went back out and had a ball practising what I got taught. Except for when I walked out of my right heel binding when the tip went into a big pile of snow on Bourke St. (With a suspicious looking snowboard shaped hole uphill of it.) Turning left, couldn't shift my weight quick enough and went headlong down the run on my nose. Stopped about 15m away from my ski directly opposite the ambulance centre with a huge blood nose. Thanks to the young lady that picked my ski up and brought it down to me when she could see all the blood. Luckily it was bloody cold as that helped my nose stop a bit quicker.
Met Spook in the bar at the Arlberg that night and had a good laugh with him.
Friday the weather was brilliant and I had a ball. Finally discovered that sticky manmade snow at the bottom of the summit. like skiing onto sandpaper. Knees were killing me but that sort of subsided after 2 JD & drys, a glass of red and then a glass of white with dinner. Thanks for the second JD John (Arlberg manager)
Then the wifes team won their game on Friday night.
Saturday the same except for something I did differently. Walked out the Shakey Knees side of the Arlberg and got 2 runs on a groomed Shakey Knees before anyone else got there. Stoked.

Got an upgrade in room at the Arlberg and can't complain about a thing.
Son wants to have a look at Falls next year so we may end up at 2 resorts next season.

Oh and I forgot to say, I saw the ABOM course and some people trying to get through it. To no avail I would add.

Anyone that skied that and did it well, should have a big flowing cape with a big S for superhero in my book.

After today's forecast, Jane notes: "This may have been the last snowfall of the season." I'm sure, as seems to happen these days, there will be one more lot - probably quite a decent dump - right after all the staff have been sent home.

We get that one big useless dump before the start of the season, then the other one at the end. C'est la vie.

    Always a laugh.

Nice video, but times like this boom or pole is a safer alternative for filming such a location.
