We were always going up this weekend with mrs LTB staying for the two weeks of school holidays and me commuting, but I'll be wangling more time on the hill if this comes off. Already thinking we'll pull the kids out of school on Friday and head up early.

I will try to get up the hill Monday or Tuesday to get an accurate guess of how much snow is falling. if its snowing at my place I will definitely be going for a drive with my camera. to be continued!

I seriously contemplated doing a stupid night run up to see him - the place will be rocking especially given the forecast!

No go for me this weekend - Dad's 60th. Next weekend looking an option though.

Oh, and here I'd been thinking all my countless mogul shots were a sensory overload.

Well, I guess I'll just have to oblige such a heartfelt plea with even more mogul shots. I suspect it won't be long now. . .

Yeah it looks great, but they still need to run the groomers over it and get a good compacted base happening and hopefully more snow to come through this week to really have a good 50cm+ there. Want to avoid the weekend but might look to Monday/Tuesday next week if it keeps and up and depending on what opens.

I'm still planning a trip up tomorrow. According to Buller they've planned to get 4 lifts running by tomorrow, weather permitting. ABOM express, Bourke St carpet, Blue bullet and shakey knees. I guess it depends on wind, given there's consistent snowfall?

If you're prepared to hike, you might get some great skiing. If these winds keep up, the Carpet would be the only thing running. This wind is insane - must be out of control up there.

IMO there should be more than enough snow.
It's just a matter of preparing the runs and making sure it's all good to go.
I wouldn't be surprised if Skyline is up and going pretty soon too.

Is there a reason there are still zero lifts running? I would have thought they would at least have blue bullet turning or is it due to high winds?

Out of interest how is it usually mid week with school holidays crowd wise?

Cow camp when you can ski all the way down to horsehill mid load has to be one of my favourite areas on the mountain, that looks epic!

Does anyone know if 4WD are required to fit chains? And if not, are the taxis and buses fitting chains in the village?

Boom. Now almost (if not) rain. Like I said, you need to be there when it's falling in AUS. I had a day like this a few years back, 20cms+ during the day, then turned to rain by 6pm. Those that got up that night couldnt understand what the fuss was all about.

    Try last year.
Big dump then big rain, but unlike this there was nothing after it.

Odd thing, APIRA cam temp is 0
Checked sensor 2 and its 0.3
Not seen to that close to BOM station before it always 1 or more higher.
Add to that it school hols and the lodge will be occupied and heating on.
Seen it snow at +1 on APIRA cam plenty of times.

What does the clock tower say ?

APIRA roof has just cleared itself in one hit so now we have a clean slate to see whats landing and how much it sticks.
Hope no-one was standing at the back of the lodge.

Normally they shut off at about 6PM i think.
Why, a question no-one has ever got an answer to suffice that after some years and many Email to them from many people with no response I decided one was never coming and that left one option, fit private cams so thats what we did.
One day we may find out why they get turned off but it isn't stopping us from having night views anymore and thats all the matters.

The fact we have 24hr cams now and other resorts do including Mt Stirling I think whatever reason they had in the past doing it doesnt hold anymore and they may as well just leave them on.

I get the vibe that there's not much interest at lift company level in the snow cams being anything more than the bare minimum to say that they have snow cams.

A friend of Tim's has a pretty primo balcony for a snow cam in the Chamois area - we have floated the idea of doing a Kickstarter to get a top quality snow cam there.

ideally you would let the snow settle for a few days before anyone skis on it. my thought would be let it snow all week, let no one on it, groom it friday night ready for Saturday morning
