Mt.Stirling's people are not showing any online data regarding their snow conditions. I take it from Mt. Buller that there is F.A. x 2 of real XC/ BC snow and the r**n is not helping either. I will wait until Sunday 16 July 16th and see what the deal is with Victorian snow reports.

Below Wombat Chair - gives you a sense of how bad Buller is, outside of manmade areas.

Today, was wet, windy and cold, but not cold enough to snow unfortunately.

Cover on manmade areas is not bad.
    Baldy isn't great.
Bourke Street was good, but crowded as per normal.
Skyline and Playground were good, with a nice park setup on Skyline.
Shakey was okay, but more snow is needed to open the full width of the run.
LBS was good except the usual spots down the bottom. Entry to Wombat was crap, main part of the run to half way was not bad.

Couldn't see anything while skiing today, hopefully we get some snow soon.

Walked up Stirling on Sunday. Gorgeous - and not a soul around. Sprinkling of natural snow for the last 1km of the track about 5cm at most, not skiable or snow shoe 'able - I would assume none left now.

Unfortunately I think this will continue. I am not sure what charts the weather guys are looking at but I think the temps for Mt Buller are going to be borderline all week....snow level will be ~1600-1700m.... here's hoping I am wrong.. need it 1-2 degrees colder.

It's snowing in the village right now! Hopefully we can fix the losses from the past two days.

Not much has changed since yesterday, except 5-10cm of fresh snow. Snow on the previously bare non manmade runs and poor spots like at the top of Wombat and certain parts of the Top of ABOM-Skyline traverse, covered up.

Looks like more snow on the weekend, however that system too has the westerly flow, however the temperatures look better than the ones for the current clearing system.

Talk of the mountain is Summit and Family Run opening tomorrow or on the weekend. Doesn't look that bad.

Here is a view of the Summit Run.
Edit: Ops report says same lifts for tomorrow. So PR should announce something tomorrow hopefully.

I wouldn't know sorry, didn't ski Wombat, because ski patrol said it was icey. LBS is open full length and was fairly good skiing (albeit a bit icey). The Wombat Extension, now known as the Bunn Run, will not open this weekend, as there is no snow on it.

Like I said before, BSL looks to be putting in all their effort into opening the Howqua/Summit Area. This will help spread out skiers around more.

Not sure if srs. I don't think MOPS would consider it if you couldn't ski it. It needs a bit of work, but we will see what gets announced tomorrow.

We always ran by never planning anything before the end of July. If it does come then get into it at short notice. The photo is a bit off putting but if you really need to slide then go for it. Rockhoppers for sure though.

My point was that I was expecting about 10-15cms of coverage up there. Looks to be double that, and maybe some more, and of course more in the snowmaking area of summit, hence my surprise.

Apparently Ski Patrol said that the cover is too thin at the bottom of Family Run for Howqua to open. I imagine Summit would be better than yesterday with the snowmaking last night and the 5cm this morning and 5cm or so(and counting) this afternoon.

I saw two dudes coming out of the Wombat Bowl, they said it was terrible . Went into Koflers for lunch, the snow looks okay there, with some grass and hazards coming through. The Chute is opening tomorrow for access to Koflers T-Bar.

Other existing skiing areas were pretty good, the fresh snow made the resort much nicer to ski than yesterday. The Skyline T-Bar track was fairly rutty this afternoon though. Good day of skiing, before the crowds tomorrow.

Had a great day today. There were some snow showers in the morning and early afternoon. Wombat still needs more snow to open all the way down. LBS, Shakey Knees and Skyline were excellent and pretty much fully covered. Bourke Street was too busy as usual but baldy was okay apart from the fog. I think summit should be getting very close to opening as most runs up high have a decent amount of snow for skiing.

“Any day on skis is better than a day in the office”, with this week’s rain and no vis . . . hmm, yeah nah.

Winter seems to be working in fits and starts while unable to actually get out of bed. The clouds have been sneezing out some wet, and while some might be lamenting it’s oh so disappointing – for early July, it’s also oh so not unusual. In fact, I remember skiing on nothing but manmade at the end of July in 2012 (and having fun doing it). Then came August. So current conditions are following standard protocol.

Hopefully in the next week or two, someone will bring Grumpy Old Man Winter his wake-up coffee though.:emoji_coffee:

Sure I’m hanging out for a ski-fix - and of course the weather is beyond the resort’s control – but with the Vail-model ticket pricing , I’ll need a leeetle more than Bourke St & Wombat (and even Moguls :yum::love: ) on the table
(and I can only hope my hard-earned will go towards more snowmaking, a new Grimus Chair and the new dam, rather than funding extravagant holidays for the CEO + family + friends).

Tis true - I wasn't even m4d about being in the office this week. Seemed preferable

It's a mad dash this weekend for those who are truly starving (for a dog), but I will wait until that next tier of coverage eventuates.

Skiing QBWE, and the weekend prior, took the urgency off for me.

Can't wait to get back, but happy to wait for a few more options to open up.

I had two options for today.

    Option A, ~$170:

    or

    Option B, $18:

I went with Option B, and I'm really quite OK with that. <porky :D>

Tahoe earlier this year did that for me. :skier::emoji_snowflake:

I will patiently await similar.

Ski Patrol said very close to Summit opening, just a few hazards up near the top apparently.

MOPS staff were shoveling the bottom of the Summit Chair this afternoon. Hopefully tomorrow, more likely Monday or Tuesday.

I skied brand new skis all weekend and didn't put a mark on them, this phase of a season is fine, everything that's open is like carpet underneath, including the summit.

It's when the black runs start opening that you can make a big mess of a pair of skis.

Summit is skiing well, except for the bottom with quite a few hazards. Freshies on Summit Black and managed to ski Boomerang just after Patrol opened it. First Tracks! Now on Wombat.

Hi all. Planning my first ever Buller trip. Have been boarding since 2010(mostly at Perisher).
Will be staying on the mountain 19th-22ND July.

Any nasty hidden costs I need to prepare for ie car parking, parks pass etc.

And on a sliding scale, what is the order in which each new lift generally opens eg if we get 10/20/50cm + more.

I won't get my hopes up, as I understand Buller can be vulnerable to the elements. Just excited to try somewhere new and get away from work.

It's great to see that they just opened summit!

    Cheers!

    Sadly many hidden costs.

Definitely buy your lift ticket online, if you're near Prahran and need a B-Tag I have some here that you can load up on the net which means you get a better deal and avoid the ticket office queues. Also pre-purchase gate entry and 4wd taxi online.

Hard to say which lifts will open next, I'd say Burnt Hut, Bull Run to serve Standard and maybe Southside to serve Mens Downhill would be the logical next steps with probably 20, 30, 40cm more to run each one.
