^^The standard Australian learn-to-ski model.
Technique needs some work too
question for Mt Buller ..@Dave Clark .. why has the new snowmaking machine have what looks like exhaust smoke coming out of it.?..I thought it was electric .
Condensation coming out of the condensers.
Some good early runs this morning on and around Little Buller Wombat. Slightly heavy but 5cm or so on top of the groomed pretty nice. As was the 1st track down the summer road skiers left of LBS.
Yesterdays pick was the snow fenceline of summit during a break in the cloud.
Lighter stuff just starting up, hoping for a solid 12hrs+. Tommorrow morning should be good.
I'm going to go out for a ski at about 2 I reckon.
Please, tell us more.
Steps filling in!
I'm going to assume he never got the balls to go out.
1.12am live report.
Groomer heading down Standard.
^^I know I'm in the minority, but I do like Standard!
So will my first ever experience of Buller today be 'Standard'?
Standard is fine when there's lots of snow and few other people. When it's busy, it becomes horrible.
South side and tirol (mid I assume) opens tomorrow
Guess I'm doing a few turns before I drive to Jindy tomorrow!!
Probably not. Depending on your lodging.
Buller backpackers(usually glam it, but had a bad financial year).
So far, so good. Got a really good room mate. Stranger, but top bloke
Not heaps of room, but most other accommodation experiences for me have been small rooms anyway. Very happy 7/10.
First hit the slopes 1.15pm. Spent my time checking out all the lifts, feeling myself around the place.
Got very soggy, the snow was sticky and the fog was tricky, but all in all pretty good coverage and there are heaps of fresh stashes around the place.
Looking forward to the two lifts opening tomorrow.
Plenty for me to be happy over the next few days
Snowing again this morning
SW has kicked in and the temps are good, should be 10-15cm in today looking at the radar.
Icy patches and small fresh stashes out there this morning.
Have been boarding with my new low light lenses off. Fogging up.
Nice and dry out there.
Have been staying around burnt hut, dam run and Tirol where it is more sheltered.
Going to check out southside now.
Nice showers passing by the office window in Richmond all morning. Giddy up.
I wonder if I made the right move driving to NSW today.
Burnt Hut camera hasn't had an update since end of 18 July..
And the Apira cam has been static since the 17th
VS cam on point (waves from Vancouver)
A lesson in how to hide steps
I'll bet my renters from KL are having a ripping time - their first visit to the snow. Friday's renters are flying in from HK. VS cam site is an internationally desired destination.........
Looks like the cam is updating - just not the date. LINK
They'll be freezing their knackers off today.
Methinks I just had a early-onset seniors moment and misread the date. Comment withdrawn.
Burnt hut and dam run most sheltered for the day. Collecting all the wind blown.
No high vision but can take goggles off without getting snow/ice/wind in the eyes.
Tried most other places except summit and family run. No good.
Buller app (updated @5pm 20/7/17)
Is saying 3cm in the last 24hrs.
Can anyone confirm or deny this?
Bull run opening on Saturday
The Buller app has that information inputted every morning when they check the gauges. Buller does not update their measurements during the day
From 4pm (after my last post) it was getting very very nice indeed.
Burnt Hut was well covered, smooth, sheltered and (dare it say it) accumulating a competent amount of powder.
Also, next to it, Dam Run was filling up well and although it wasn't groomed, the chopped up scary icy bits were disappearing fast. Just as I was about to give it one last go, Bonza lift closed!
Went down alongside Tirol T-bar to Fox lift and it had covered up heaps since 2 hours prior. Had one more run down fox tirol and other side of fox. Best run of my trip!
It was one of those days when it felt like there was another amazing hour left to ride(and I was out since 8.30am with no huge breaks had.
Please please please do not tell anyone this, but if nothing bad happens to the cover overnight, from Fox chair around to Bonza chair will be a dream tomorrow morning!
And more is being wind blown to that area as we speak...
Anyone know when Bull Run, Grimus, Canyons will open? Certainly look skiable this morning?
Slept through both alarms
Spent all yesterday getting ready for a day trip today.
Dumb **** didn't have the brains to even ring me just in case.
Bull Run (probably Standard only), Chamois (hopefully bottom load from Standard) are open Saturday.
Canyons might open, if there is enough snow.
Grimus will probably need a bit more snow.
They are opening Federation tomorrow as well! For Whiskey Creek.
You know it's going to be a great day when the temperature outside your car before Mansfield is -3 and you see the glimpse of Buller through the trees with no clouds!
Chains being fitted. It's a cracker of a day. Bluebird but still very cold. Ideal for the snow preservation. We're following the sun with a few runs on Burnt Hut, Tirol And Shakey Knees. All skiing beautifully with Tirol's soft ungroomed bumps my pick here. Summit is terrific, black side is a bit icy with a light coating of grated ice.
@DbSki that sucks to have slept in. Howqua is fantastic. Will do Southside and Wombat after lunch
Photos don't want to upload sorry
Turns out I wasn't the only one who slept through alarms.
Not so bad, slim pickings for runs still. upside was a nice sunny day but more lifts should open after the weekend and more of the runs I prefer.
Next week more runs open so not a total loss.
Change that to Canyons will open. 20/22 Lifts
I never understood the point of that surface tow?
