There would need to be a kicker though. Like, you'd need to feed the slug machine with pigmy possums to keep the magic going. Sorry guys, sometimes sacrifices need to be made.

Have to be careful they don't split the Bullerverse.

So forgive my ignorance, but how is a groomer going to spread the piles without any snow base? Or arent they going to do that? It is my understanding that if a groomer tried to push that pile around it would get full of dirt and mud from the surrounding non-snow ground adjacent to it. So if that's true, then these piles will just sit there until there is enough natural snow for the groomers to push them around, which is usually about a foot.

From how i understand it. The groomer will push the snow across the run (top to bottom), but i they wont be grooming it, until the base is thick enough or there is a satisfactory layer across the run. From the looks of the trial run they did a couple weeks back, it seems as though they managed pretty well to spread the snow from the pile, without the mud getting mixed in.

"To support a busy race and training program on Little Buller Spur a race hut has been built at the top of the run. It will be home to gates and timing equipment for the Victorian and National Interschools events as well as the many other race events held over the winter."

Does anyone know how much a lift ticket and board hire for the Saturday and Sunday of the June long weekend will be? Or when and where we can get that information?

They usually announce the price of lift tickets for opening weekend during the week before, it's dependent on how many lifts they can get open. Board hire would probably be the same standard price, I could be wrong though.

    Took a walk around today
Finished hut and the huge snow piles, cams don't do the size justice.
I finally managed to get over the far side of the mountain (usually not enough snow), can someone explain what the blue lift below bull is or was?

Can't be effed starting a thread for a simple question in May...
So, friends are looking at a weekender in peak season (late August). I'm after accom recommendations for a family of 6 comprising mum, dad, grandma, 3 young boys one of which will be in a porta cot.
Budget isn't an issue, pretty swank apartment style accom would be the preferred option I think.

    Thanks in advance.

    And go!

    here's my place https://www.airbnb.com.au/rooms/11299295?s=GDeZFhVd&sug=50

sounds like it's perfect for your friends - 3 br and 2 living spaces right in the middle of the Village above George's Ski Hire and since we are in Vancouver its available all season. Check airbnb though as it's heavily booked already but I think there are a couple of weekends later in August.

Swank is assured - mrs LTB did the interior design work ;)

along with the " speed tax " on LBS there is going to be a "turn tax" trialled on bourke st. for every turn you do from the Arlberg to the bottom of Blue Bullet you will receive a credit which will be automatically added to your Btag . This has been implemented to encourage people to slow down on Bourke st.

After a quick overview of all the Australian resort cams, it seems that Buller has received the most from this snow storm. Might also add that the piles are growing very quickly!!

yep, the piles are much larger then a week ago. Still most the volume is close to the top of
Bourke Street. It would be a huge task to push (truck it) the snow lower down. As it is, the
lowest pile is on 420m of pipe, the longest used anywhere, LB said last week at the rate
payers AGM. The snow so far is really wet, which would be a great base if it freezes and
stays frozen. We have been getting heavy falls on and off all day so far, dryer snow then
what came overnight. Looks like the temp is on the way down now:emoji_chart_with_downwards_trend:, so the next 24-48
hours could set us up for Winter, just a few days away. Though it is very rare May snow
makes it to the main snow season, odds are it will all be gone again.

The new lifties have been out having lessons, yesterday on skyline, pull T's. Some looking
a little cold, is was 3°, practically summer :emoji_sunny:

Would it take much effort on Buller's behalf to make bourke street cam a 24hr cam?

Virtually none. Their cams are all HD & well networked. They could all stream live 1080p footage but there isn't enough bandwidth off the hill to broadcast that. Plus it would cost a bit.

I would have thought with such a large spend on the slushy machine the marketing department would have been super keen to get 24/7 pics and footage of the snow

There's no physical way to get the images off the hill. The network couldn't do it.

Ask them, we did long ago and got no satisfactory response which is why we were forced to put up private 24/7 cams.

Certainly looks like a few cm on the ground and they have started cranking the traditional snowmaking.

Snow making was running overnight. somewhere between 5-10 cm at least
on the ground, started very wet, r..n but was very good later in the evening,
squeaky dry. Plenty of cars off the road last night, a set of chains in the
middle of the road, someone is missing them. Snow was down to the plough
    shed.

BTW there is plenty of Optical Fibre into Buller, steaming HD video would be
easy, should anyone choose to. I alone Skype full HD easy. Ethernet cable
covers many of the lifts and a lot of the snow guns now also. Maybe it's time
for BSL to move up from the dial up plan they must be on.

So you've been studying the recipe book all on your own, without help or assistance?! So I guess we could say you're . . . self-taut!

Meanwhile in other news, the VS cam looks like it's working correctly. Thanks @luvthabumps , @DbSki & @mx_boarder for getting it working properly while it's still only May! ;)

Re Bourke St snow cam on at night - I have asked IT if this is possible. CarveMan correctly identifies resort bandwidth is limited. Strangely enough the stability of our ecommerce platforms takes priority.

Video is the problem not still images, periodic still images use so little you could run a 56k dial up modem for them.

    As for night cams

Good start, and with a nice cold week for snowmaking I think things will be looking promising by the weekend.

Hopefully no high pressure & inversions late in the week.

Yep sorry I was referring to streaming in terms of bandwidth, not night time. Responding to two separate points in one paragraph there.

So what happens to the piles in the event there's enough snow to open B Street but not enough snow to push the piles around (groomer damages the snow). Do they tape them off? They're a serious hazard to ski between.

Two hands, two legs and a shovel. When I was a lifty on Buller we were forced (to slowly) move a lot of snow around by hand. Unless it's frozen solid
