Had the pleasure of digging out a car park and the verandah just then. So much snow. It's almost ridiculous.

Wow it looks so good... and there's still more snow forecast over the next week! Looking forward to skiing around the bottom of Horse Hill in 10 days or so looks like there should be plenty of cover

Certainly looks full. Grooming down the bottom of cow camp means it'll be open for quite a while. The summer grooming of the past 4-5 years has really made a difference all over the mountain.

When it's high cloud, then contrast and lense color make a difference. When you are skiing in the cloud, there is nothing you can do.

You can't change the laws of physics. Water droplets in the air reduce the optical depth of the atmosphere. There is no magic lense that can remove the floating water droplets between your eyes and the snow.
I thought about this the other day. If you gave me the choice of living six months of the year in St Anton/Revelstoke/Niseko or Bright/Mansfield, of course I'd take the former.

But if you are ever in the situation where you can get good turns in, only a 3-5 hour drive away, why wouldn't you? This was Hotham yesterday.

I guess that is the difference between a ski addict and someone who just does it for the ambiance.

Mind you I'm not really practising what I preach here, as I've only been up one day so far (and cancelled my week at Hotham this year) because we are saving our pennies for Japan 2019. But your point is well made.

Of course the best solution is to live six months of the year in Bright/Mansfield and six months in the Northern Hemisphere..I wonder if the wife would go for it.

North side is running, no need to have Tirol as well.

    I beg to differ :)

Snow is very nice. Bored queues dropped right off by 12pm. Yes, very windy. Was struggling not to run with the wind behind me, walking from Spurs to Tirol. Makes my life easier  Thinking about going for a hike.

Maybe, but if NS is the only lift aside from Cham running then it makes sense to have Tirol running too.

Note those pretty turns down Summit Slide

Absolutely loaded. Heard Patrol closed it yesterday, so steered clear.

    And....

    Second tracks down the corduroy.

Tomorrow will be epic. I can't wait.

Man, I'd forgotten how windy it gets up here. Felt like the roof was going to come off last night

Seems to have died off a bit this morning - just waiting for flakes to arrive. MEL Radar looks like it's sliding a bit ??

Started 10ish, Upper Fed aside, pretty meh. Had some pretty nice turns on Robins and Powder Keg, but still that crust underneath feature. Dipped into Koflers, then skied Boggy Creek's various offspurts for about 2 hours, great skiing there and then Village and it's various options for about 2 hours, even better skiing there. Was a bit of a queue at Tirol at times.

Warning for those skiing the chutes. They are very hard. This mountain is quite new to me as my friend and I are from Adelaide. We wanted to try the chutes in the morning but it was so hard to see due to cloud. We had to walk up from the summit chair in pretty much a whiteout to the hut at the summit and then think we found them. Couldn't see a thing and neither of us knew where we were. Started skiing down it and didn't realise that it was so steep! The snow was very icey too. I hit a rock and fell down a long way. My friend fell over on the ice and now has a possible arm fracture and leg injury after hitting a rock while sliding down. He might be out for the rest of the season!

    Buller is good.
Got there early. Up Northside chair and straight across to Wood run. Not a single queue or hold up for the entire day; road, carpark or lifts.
Federation was deserted most of the day
A bit lumpy first up, but got betterer and betterer.
Most snow Southside I've seen for a long while; even more than last year, and right to the bottom.

Sounds like a good start to an obituary. Two friends, bound by love of adventure and skiing, died doing what they loved....

Kudos for not collapsing the cornice which has formed along the path to the fire hut... geezus.

there was four closed signs right over the start to the fire hut track. it would be incredibly hard to not see the signs even with the heavy fog today.

    Struth indeed!

Makes my 'nearly wiped out by idiot in a Cruiser on Monash in rainstorm driving back from Hotham' moment seem quite tame really. (/:-/)

I skied Buller on Friday, great vis for a change but extremely limited runs esp for an intermediate skier. Had a few good runs on the T bar lifted run, possibly Baldy? However that was put on wind hold as we were getting blown sideways on the way up. The queues for the Blue Bullet were horrendous with maybe 200 peeps waiting for about 20 mins for the chair. However, on the positive side the runs were not that crowded and the views were sensational. My experience was somewhat ruined by a tosser (can't use any other descriptor) who felt the need to take his crap music with him. He was wearing a backpack with a built in sound system and speaker on his back. Just total noise pollution, why didn't he just wear headphones so we did not have to hear his shit music blaring from his backpack!
