Yeah but at Hotham you drop your gear off, then drop your car off then get the bus back to the lodge.

That's from Tim Ross' site isn't it?

I have a copy of the original paper zine. It's hilarious.

    Hi all,

Apologies if this is a silly question...

Are skiers still able to use the Northside Express and put skis on the back of the chair while it’s for “sightseeing only”? Not particularly interested in being part of that queue at any point!!

    Cheers.

If that joke of a queue is the alternative then I wouldn’t even ask the lifty’s.

Maybe quicker to park at Stirling in the morning and make the commute on foot

Fair enough!! There were plenty of “canvas shoes, wet jeans”-type sightseers on Blue Bullet and Mercedes Benz the past few weeks, so a skier on a ski lift shouldn’t be too outrageous?

Great, thanks for that. Just wasn’t sure because of the most recent report saying “for sightseeing ONLY”. Didn’t want to be a hypocrite :p

We use to sit in the pub and drink til the queue emptied. My liver eventually gave in and was forced to join a ski club

Do you think they might have been biting the corporate hand and suggesting people go the extra 30 min from FC to Hotham...?

Yes skiers allowed on Northside Exp, just not with equipment on your feet. We advertise it as "sightseers only" to avoid disappointment as there's no skiing at the other end without a walk.

Note sightseers are NEVER allowed on any lift other than Northside, or Bourke St when Northside isn't running.

You wouldn't have seen sightseers. They were probably guests of management, corporate partners, resort management, that kind of thing.

    No the Bus wasn't fast
Just a certain member here has a little difficulty with comprehension

After he was whining about having to drive all that extra time to go to Hotham I explained that the drive time (being the time you drive) was only slightly longer than Buller IF you only drive to Bright and then get the cheap (Govt subsidised) Bus to Hotham and back to Bright and sleep on the bus.

Thus avoiding the long drive time yourself.
Simple enough to understand for anyone with a hint of comment sense.

But...seems sense is not as common as I thought and he apparently took that to mean "Driving to Hotham in a Bus is only a bit long than Buller"....... and then ran with it ,..... and ran .... and ran .... and ran.

    I agree.
    Its advice Ive given many people here over about the last 9 years having done day trips to Hotham via the same method many times using the cheap Bus from Bright, and so far everyone else understood what I was talking about, except the one I mentioned, which I find rather amusing although not surprising;

And when I say cheap I mean $10.80 return cheap
    http://dysongroup.com.au/alps-link
Unfortunately it only runs Fri, Sunday and Wed

    Other option is snowball Xpress

    $60 return daily

Yep! For example say you own a ski resort and you take a loan from a bank to buy infrastructure to keep improving the ski resort for the guests. The bank wants to send its auditors to take a look at some assets up top. And say the snow cover is quite low and you are trying to minimise the impact on vegetation. The best option is to send them up the lift. But they can't ski. Do you allow them to go up a lift that otherwise doesn't allow pedestrians? Of course you do because you're not incompetent. Do you then allow sightseers to go up the lift and slow the whole thing down for skiers? See where this is going...

    That'd be Prime
Reason I mentioned 2017 is that the graph shows early snow in late May with a wash out in June (which we have had so far this year) and then the real season started around July 8 (which would be good)

Cover on LBS was very good all the way down this morning - hard packed obviously. I was there first thing though. I dare say it was pretty scoured and icy by the time race club had spent the day thrashing it, there's a very solid layer of ice under the topcoat. The snowmakers and groomers have done a good job down there considering though. Skyline still had plenty on it when I looked later today, pretty scratchy off the groomed area as you'd expect but the snow factory was being pumped into a heap on Skyline so should be fine. Shaky had vegetation starting to poke through by days end though. I'm sure the groomers will fix it up. It was highy rippable first thing when it was hard packed and fresh groomed. Very soft later as you'd expect. Hopefully they can keep pumping snow overnight because they are losing some with this warm weather and not a lot on the horizon for the next week. It's skiable but you'd want to keep your expectations low if your yardstick is last year! Hope that helps.

    Top of Shakey first thing:

    Looking over to Skyline:

Yeah I'm a little surprised to see that it still persists and I can understand why that could amuse some.
Although since it was originally initiated in an attempt to ridicule me by misquoting me and others decided to perpetuate it as a joke at my expense for some years, perhaps you might understand that I would not find it so amusing to see it hauled out yet again after 10 years.

More bizarre though is the timing of it.

Dropped in to Spurs after walking to the Horse Hill lift this afternoon. They were test driving the new barbeque facility out the front. Looks a bit like a steam engine, smelt amazing. Photos being taken of some freaking nice looking food they'd just cooked for marketing purposes. I offered to be in the pictures eating some of it as a loyal customer but got turned down.

Spurs goes gourmet, talk about an upgrade. Mind you, my beans on toast would be an upgrade for Spurs menu....

Jesus, we need snow at Buller now. Weekend is going to be a complete bunfight.

Baldy is struggling, as is shakey.
    LBS is good.
Crowds weren't too bad, only skyline was anything longer than 1min
