Hope that scrape down the side of the car isn't from the day carpark!

This Dyson option is very attractive for getting that last leg up to Hotham with no car parking costs. I'll put it in the memory bank pronto.

Little Buller surprisingly skiing pretty good. Shakey knees getting a bit funky. Slushy machines keeping skyline open

There is a side street opposite to the Vline bus stop in Bright where you can angle park for free and always plenty of room.
I get my ski gear on at Bright including boots for the bus ride then get off at Hotham Heights, walk across the road and step in the skis on head off down the hill.
End of day the Bus stop is at the top of the Chair lift and there is loads of places to get a good meal cheaper than on mountain before the drive home.

As to it being worth doing, when you have the option of Hotham open including Orchard and most of Buller is grass then it is well worth it, which is why I started doing it when faced with that choice one year and using the Bus the driving time is cut back by a lot which is the main problem getting worn out from driving on day trips.
It leaves bright at 7AM and I usually have a snooze on the bus on the way up.

    * Disclaimer: A forum rookie’s report for Saturday...

Arrived at Buller just after 9am, no trouble heading up or in the day car park. Little bit of a queue for the bus, but we headed over to the Northside Express. Zero queue there. It was as if no one realised it was a much better option than the bus (shh don’t tell anyone).

Fairly busy all over as expected with school holidays and the sun out compared to last weekend. Bourke Street Express already getting a solid workout. Mercedes Benz queue wasn’t so bad. Baldy is looking pretty sad though!

Fox queue not too bad either but again, Shakey is desperate for some snow (fingers crossed for this week!). Fairly soft and chopped up early on with the above zero temps and sun hitting it, and quite bumpy by the afternoon.

LBS best coverage of the day (ignoring Bourke Street...). Some crunchy bits in the shade earlier but otherwise good cover all the way down to Wombat Chair.

Skyline coverage is good thanks to the snow factories, and a far cry from the ice skating rink it was a couple weeks ago. Actually quite fun today and seemed like the quietest run overall!

Left just after 4pm the same way we arrived. Again, zero wait time. Not sure how the bus queue looked!

Some pictures attached (hopefully I’ve done it right).

Hope you all have a good weekend!!

Nice report. You did the right thing going Northside. We did this in the morning and clearly the best option despite the walk. Had to go back up the mountain and pick up my daughter later in the day by which time the bus queue was doing laps around the village square. I too am amazed at how well LBS has held up given that the temperature hasn't been sub-zero for most of the week. The snowmakers must be disappointed that the temperatures haven't allowed them to make anything during the week. At least the dam is starting to fill back up.

Cheers! Glad we made the right choice. The horror stories from last weekend about the bus made the decision easy!

Did notice the dam looking better today. I’m being optimistic about the snowfalls this week!

Are those guns on the skiers right of Shakey new @Dave Clark ? Or have we been spoiled the last few seasons that the snowmaking infrastructure hasn't been on our minds.

Good Q, I do know they had issues making snow on Shakey because the wind was constantly in the wrong direction earlier this season, and those guns were doing most of the heavy lifting. I'll have to ask our snowmaking team...

    Hi Dave,

I’d assume with Shakey being aligned SW - NE, lances should be on the LHS of the run so that prevailing northerly winds can carry snow (southwards) over the run? Yes?

Third Umpire brought in to survey the toboggan pitch....
Players seem a bit reluctant to hit the slope?

Kids are not getting much bounce of the pitch even after groundsmen had the groomer out last evening!

Maybe time to bring on the spinners that can exploit those uneven /damaged areas on this wicket ..
Umpires may have to call time out early this arvo so a groomer can give this wicket a touch up.....

Mighty soft and sugary all over considering it's showed negative temps for the last 12 hours. LBS on struggle street in the middle now. Amazing it's lasted this long. Ditto Shakey. Damn that fake snow is resilient though!

Fresh snow can't come soon enough.

Imagine how bad the mountain would have looked with these conditions in circa 1990s. We've come a long way since then.

Is the "Bluff View" snowcam the most useless one in the world? I think I've only seen a picture on it after a week of temps above 0.

    Yes,
would be nice if they’d spin it to the left and get a shot of skyline and baldy, which would also include some of the terrain park (a Victorian first)

30kmh northerly wind forecast for Thursday. What’s that do for the already limited lift options?

While they are at it, they could also re-align the Fox camera so that it points at the ground a bit. It shows a lot of sky, a lot of chairlift and not much snow. Plus there is an annoying banner ad at the bottom - why don't they put those at the top?

Yup, that happened yesterday too. Too many kids and not enough adults to help them at the lift. It's essentially just making the kids a sitting duck target for out of control beginners down there. Not good.

That wasn't my intent with the live cam suggestion by the way, it was meant to be a light-hearted joke!

For someone as thin skinned as you who takes such great offence to getting some of what you so readily dish out to others handed back to you I find it odd that you have forgotten the lesson you learned trying it on with me in the past.
What was it you said back then "How could I be so mean to you" or words that that effect last time you tried to ridicule me and got some of you own back.
Would you like me to teach you that lesson again ?....Beefcake

Victorian cams are very disappointing on the whole & trail NSW bigs by a mile - esp. quality but also quantity.

We had more (& better placed) cams 5-10 years ago.

And we used to see Cams of Mt Stirling/Feathertop & McKay for a while.

Theres no Live cams, (360s are good!)
And some mtns switch them off for large parts of season! Hopeless! Misleading too!!
And most dont show terrain just village features which while handy, dont tell the whole picture.

Lift your game resorts!! ( :-(

Cam-wise, I think NSW are more professional, Vic are bit amateurish. Not sure if it's just saving dollars or they just don't think they do much to attract punters.

Maybe one day someone will spill the beans?

The reason Vic resorts have crap snow cams is they believe this encourages day trippers, and they really want people to come and stay. It's a pretty silly attitude, but I got that from the horses mouth.
