Nah it's the same as Burnt Hut. At least it doesn't seem to have the bucket seat separators.

Does the new rope tow get a new lift name?

They should call it Rino Platter.

As much as I'd like to get excited about Bourke St Express, it'll be a miracle for me to ride it for more than 5 times for the entire season. Also, with the increased capacity of the new lift, Bourke St will be busier and potentially more *dangerous* than ever.

For me the big news is the much improved aesthetic. I love old school, and while it was sad to see the classic sheds pulled down, the load station in particular looks infinitely better - it opens up that entire area.

Keen to see what they do with the BB2 load shed.

I heard a theory that they might use it to store snow from the slurpee machine out of the weather, and another theory that they could even use it for indoor, year-round snowplay.

That would be an absolute game changer for uni games. Imagine a McMuffin and 47 hash browns on the way to the GS course!?

Would be an easy tear down, it's just frame/cladding really. I guess they've seen opportunity to make money from the space instead.

Have they turned off the all weather snowmakers? Seems like the one on the tennis court isn’t on anymore?

Also, where are they up to in regards to the new lifts?

I think they keep structures and imagine new uses for them cos it's so hard to get a permit to put a new one up. I suspect that's why the Village T-Bar is still there.

They have moved the output pipe to the north side of Bourke street, which is shaded by the row of trees.

Speaking to a guy working today he said that the new cafe at top of Blue Bullet will prob be finished before the season but may not open this season due to them waiting on RMB approvals.

No Maccas should be approved for Buller unless its proudly on the summit and a fully rotational superstructure! ❄️⛷

Sorry bit off topic but just read the speed limit in Yarck will be 60km/h from end of the month. Something to lookout for come the winter drive up to the hill.

When are they building the bypass? Soon enough we'll have to go backwards through Yarck they'll drop the speed so much.

So now the local pub will need to get some Oh Farck, its Yarck! bumper stickers printed up to add to the healthy income they already earn from their Where the Farck is Yarck? merchandise.

With increasing congestion & reduced speed limits, Buller is now more a 4 hr option than 3 from the inner SE subs (Caulfieldish). That's with 1-2 10 min loo stops. But who really wants to hold on for almost 4 hrs??

So I feel the 'just 3 hrs from Melbourne' slogan, Ie. ~ average about 85 km/h over trip, is now a bit of a porky from most of us. Unless one speeds, travels off peak on weekdays, lives along the Maroondah Hgwy, doesn't stop for the loo, yarda....

I live adjacent to Caulfield, I often get 3h15m on the way home but the way up is definitely inching towards 4 hours.

I got my license in 1995 and there were quite a few years of improvements as more overtaking lanes were added, shoulders widened etc, but it has definitely regressed over the last 10 years with all the 80 zones and congestion getting out of the city. I remember once driving from Toorak to Mirimbah in 2h16m in the late 90s. Now you would be lucky to get to Bonnie Doon in that time.

We almost always do it in one hit though!

Ah the old days! My year 0 for the area (inc Stirling) is 1985 - gee that's scary!!

Another Issue I didn't mention up front is that my 10 year old is a puker. One really has to back off on fast sweepers to avoid a Milk Shake explosion etc... Which us guaranteed to cost more time than backing off a tad.

Btw: our rough time splits are: Lilydale 1hr; Yea ~2hrs, Mansfield almost 3. Say Just over 3 with a coffee & loo stop. 3:45 hrs at the gate, then it's all up to luck & weather to the top car parks.

Yeah that sounds about right. Mansfield used to be 2 hours. Sigh.

Will be interested to see how Little Miss 1 goes this year. Last year everyone loved to put in their 2c and tell us that our drives up would be 6 hour disaster missions with multiple feed/change stops etc. She slept the whole way every time and we did it in one hit.

Ahh, the benefit of living in the north of the CBD - the 3 hour travel time may actually be realistic for me!

Of course, it does make a trip to Baw Baw less appealing, and means that Hotham via Omeo is a far longer proposition than for others.

The real killer is stopping for breaks. Even on an August Friday night we can still make it from the cbd at 6pm to the lodge at 9:15ish.

Last season we waited until 8pm to leave Melbourne and did it it 3 hours. Even at peak season. Also helps to avoid the shit show at the entry gate before you get the chance to pull to the right and go past.

The other killer is the taxi system. Last year I parked in lower Tirol a number of weekends, having left the cbd at 5:30pm. The wait for a taxi was an hour. That’s enough to make buller’s claim of a 3 hour drive absolute trash. Rumour has it they dropped taxi fares much to everyone’s delight but ran half as many taxis. Would love to know if anyone knows more about that.

PS: speeding on the way to buller is dumb af. Don’t even bother.

I'm headed up with some friends at *slightly* off peak time - up on Tuesday, returning on Friday.

I would probably be inclined to use Buller Bus, except that their return service on Friday leaves at 2:45pm, instead of the 4:00pm that it leaves on other days. This makes it less appealing.

This. And speeding through towns on the way is even dumber again.

Radar cruise control is the best feature imaginable for a snow weekend warrior.

I've added another 30mins to my historical travel times when I moved from Rowville to the peninsula. Now with the decrease speed limits that would be extended even more. Shit.

Mansfield in 1h 48m from Dandenong...waaaay before Eastlink and waaaaay before my pre-frontal cortex had a chance to develop. (In a 1.5L Nissan Pulsar) I reckon I could have gone faster but got stuck behind a couple of trucks.

I'm amazed that I have been driving to Buller for 20+ years and I only got 1 ticket...in Croydon of all places!

I'm a good boy now though.
