Oh it would definitely be worth it, but there's no fitness like snow fitness and I've burnt the candles at both end for today I reckon!

    Story time.

It all started because I was pissed Summit/Grimus didn't open today. Because the wind was behind me I thought what the hell, I'll ski to Fast One from the top of Howqua. Easy done. I think I saw one other track heading down there. Skiers left was sweet. Plenty of fresh untouched. Smooth, silent skiing all the way down. Got to the bottom and I thought I can't just go back to Howqua now so I went to check out bottom of the Chutes.

Wow. It was like another world. Noone in sight. No tracks, plenty of fresh beautiful snow wherever I looked. Sun was coming out. Took a selfie.

    **** it, let's do it.

6 turns in I'm thinking wow this is fantastic. I'm floating on air. I'm the king of the world. I stop half way down. Stick a pole in. Oh uh. This is way deeper than I thought. Take skis off. Take a step. Crotch deep. ****.

30 minutes of climbing I'm not getting much vert. Put a ski in each hand and crawl on all fours towards the out of bounds rope. Damn. Took me 45 minutes to get to the exit. Cooked. Had general anaesthetic last Tuesday too.

Not the smartest decision but so so worth it. What is life without a bit of adventure.

Wife wasn't happy for getting back late but it's always better to ask forgiveness than permission.

    :woohoo:

I have done a similar thing but from the ridge, got to the rope line and that was my bail out, but the turns were too good, couldnt stop. Skied to the very bottom, an hour back out to the top, waist deep pain the whole way up. But worth every turn. Hurt me for days after.

Reading between the lines it seems that the season close this year is mid weekend school holidays?

Nothing mentioned about an extension, though there’s ample snow now to do it.

My guess was correct - that was you were doing Bull Run laps yesterday. I'm the one in the crazy 90s jacket.

Ok so in previous years they've been doing this "we're extending" thing to the end of the school holidays (as opposed to in the old days where they'd just initially have a close at end of the school holiday and hope the snow made it?

With only 3 weeks left now there's not much PR bang left.

Yeah it’s always their intention to go to the end of school hols, but they need the ability to save face from ‘closing early’ if it’s a shocker. I was here for the last week last year, really enjoyable mellow spring skiing.

Having another look at the photo - no wonder some people think us snowsports folk are plain crazy. Have a squizz at the tree in the background and the safety bar on the chair? Tad cold it appears.

Nice billowy powder on the north side in the morning. Not many people , but the ones who were out were keen on clocking up the fresh track miles. (mostly mountain staff I would think)

Tyrol open to bottom again with maybe best cover for season.

Dam Run after at 10:30. The powder Vandals have moved on !
Southside of the mountain , somewhat wind packed but still nice. Outer Edge officially open to the bottom. Albeit with many a shrubbery on the run.

    And Bull Run

What a ****ing cracking day. Lapped Bull Run all morning, did a few laps of wombat bowl after lunch.

And then Grimus opened at about 3pm.

    ****. Me. Dead.

Fresh windblown almost top to bottom. It had these weird corrugations down it but **** it was good.

I’m happy to report that winter has slammed the door right in spring’s face. Today was fantastic, better than yesterday.

We began with a few runs around Bull Run and Southside and then we moved north. The snow was much deeper, softer, out of the wind and pretty good visibility. Southside was quite a bit wind scoured compared to north side, but Wombat Bowl was fantastic, and no wait at the chair.

@benzerknees, we were among the powder vandals on Dam Run at 10.30. Sorry, not sorry :D

Tree runs, woolly butts, fresh flakes falling thickand riding up Tirol T-bar made up much of our day.

    These are out steps

This was my morning peak hour commute
I’m going to have to do it all over again tomorrow morning too:D

Not to worry , I also was a powder vandel from 8.45 onwards. By 10:30 , I thought I could slow down a bit and take a photo or two.

    And this

    But you're stuck doing this

Amazing day up here though. Lovely snow, epic weather and can confirm zig zag not groomed... second pic is off the side of zig-zag.
