So they still have to pick up there pass from the gate? I guess this way they know if there tyres are suitable before they get to Mt Buller.

They will mail it out, if there is still time before you need it.

yep, did mine this a.m. at RCS and as long as you get the inspection done in Melb before June 3rd, they will mail it out.

Could you imagine the shit fight they would have had at Mirimbah on Friday night of opening weekend if they were stopping most of the 4WDs to inspect tyres. I would have loved to have got up there earlier and had it done on mountain but I just dont have the time at the moment so being able to get it done in under 5 mins at a venue 10 mins from my house is a huge win.

    So.

I heard that even though BSL long had an intention to open this weekend, just before the goodness of this forecast eventuated they abandoned the plan, and are now scrambling.

FWIW I think they will open, I think they have to open.

One lift on Bourke Street isn't enough to entertain fanatical skiers for a day, nor is it worth charging for...

BUT it is enough to get featured on the news of all five TV networks, plus social media chatter, etc.

Massive free advertising and the only cost is paying a few lifties and a mechanic plus a hundred bucks for the electricity.

Plus they can generally run on a skeleton basis with salaried employees who have previously been lifties etc.

Great news. Kids will be frothing to have a slide seeing as we're going up anyway. Got to be better than last year's opening ski on the Bourke Street runway! That really was carnage :D Well played Buller

What About Mt. Stirling? Are they starting up a week earlier than planned too? I have ditched my plans to cut up wood for Mt. No. 3 refuge hut and do a supply drop there.
Forget it , there is enough snow to Nordic ski on so bring it on!
I am going XC skiing , if I can arrange it , at Mt. Buffalo and at Falls Ck. this weekend.

Dave Clark or one of his colleagues has uploaded this on the Buller website.

It's nice to see them acknowledging the resorts history with a nod to the 70th anniversary of lifts on Bourke Street. I wonder if they will do anything to celebrate this? (I'll write something for them if they give me some promo merch.)

NEW CHAIRLIFT & EARLY OPENING - 1 JUNE
29 May 2019: Today Mt Buller announced the resort is opening early on Saturday 1 June to mark the first day of winter with a free day skiing and boarding on Bourke Street riding the new Bourke Street Express chairlift.

The resort has been blanketed with over 35cms fresh snow so far this week and we couldn’t wait until the Queen’s Birthday Weekend to roll the new 6-seater lift.

Buller Ski Lifts’ owners Rino and Diana Grollo will officially open the Bourke Street Express at 10am on Saturday morning before inviting snowlovers to enjoy free rides for the day to celebrate the first day of the snow season – a week earlier than scheduled!

Buller Ski Lifts General Manager Laurie Blampied confirmed the exciting news this morning, “This $6m chairlift is a big investment and we are very pleased to get skiing on the first day of winter with a deep early snow cover and a brand new chairlift.”

This early opening of Mt Buller’s new 6-seater express lift is possible thanks to strong early snowfalls and a massive snowmaking effort from the resort, which has been busy making snow and preparing since April using two all-weather SnowFactories.

2019 marks the 70th year of lifted skiing at Mt Buller. It started in 1949 with a single rope tow on the Bourke Street run. Mt Buller is home to the most modern lift network in Australia with a system of 22 lifts and over 300 hectares of terrain.

Resort Management CEO Mark Bennetts confirmed Mt Buller and Mt Stirling will both officially open on 1 June, offering half price resort entry from Saturday until the Queen’s Birthday Weekend, and a further 20% saving when bought in advance online. Overnight parking will be free during this period. Shuttle services will operate from the car parks to the village from Saturday morning.

The Mt Buller Ski & Snowboard School will provide limited beginner ski and snowboard lessons from this Saturday and rental stores at Mt Buller and in Mansfield will be open early for equipment hire. A number of hospitality venues in resort are open early and ready to serve meals and drinks.

Bourke Street ski run will remain open from Sunday 2 June. Lift passes for Sunday onwards are available online from $66 for adults and $37 for children.

Much closer for xc ski than FC. I will be looking at weather for LM trip week of June 10-14 and will PM when plan is closer to fruition. Could rendezvous Healesville, Marysville or car park before ticket box. Your call. Consider.

Definitely not Saturday. Sunday probably not, but a chance.
However the big chance is QBW or the days leading up to it, to open at least Baldy/Skyline.

So the new chairlift is officially opened at 10 am. Does this mean it will not be taking guests until after its opening?

Did my snow tyre check today at RCS

Got a park out the front, the person had a google form on their phone, filled in the details, pressed submit and it got sent to me and the RMB. Took less than 5 minutes.

    Thanks @snowtyres !!
