Apparently the exemption is for anyone who is a 2026 Olympic prospect. Also apparently the mogul skiers in Perisher will be training on snow tomorrow.
Yep as partner of OWIA we continue to support a small group of authorised elite athletes and potential winter Olympians resident in resort maintaining their access to training facilities on snow.

All operating carefully within government guidelines to provide a safe environment for the athletes as they prepare to represent Australia in the upcoming Winter Olympic Games in 2022 & 2026.

Good for the athletes and Buller I say. It’s low density and controlled. Life is bad enough as it is.

FWIW: I’m aware that some young XC skiers who haven’t been able to competitively train for the best of two years (north & Southern Hemispheres). Sounds like they face the prospect of missing out on future opportunities as a result. Pretty sad - it’s a long time to lose from one’s development window.

Most of the OWIA Aerial team (except for Danielle Scott) who are expected to compete in China are already in Switzerland water ramping and getting ready for the move to snow asap.
They’re doing it pretty tough over there:

Gabi dropped in to the shop before leaving, was very jealous!

Great work. I’d hate for our athletes to be disadvantaged.

Mate - we had to live through daily pics and Facetimes from Abbey and Gabi on a weeks break in Croatia............

Found time to get up to the summit at lunchtime today. Lots of snow up the top and a solid cornice but very thin in places down low now. Had to take skis off a couple of times between Fed and Bull Run. Whisky Creek is almost toast too. It's lasted a long time though considering!

We were up there on Saturday and noticed the aftermath of 3-4 decent slides. Up above grimus and in the chutes. Lots of debris for 50-100m

Expecting the worse and an announcement soon from those in power, and the season is done.
That will mean 1 day for me and #1son but nothing for the others in the family.
Are there any thoughts on season passes? Or are we "helping the ski industry with our donation"?

Might wax my skis on the weekend. :(

Never thought I'd find myself feeling grateful for having managed two ski days in a season, but here we are.
I have got more than my fair share, in fact far more than I would expect. Happy and sad at the same time but yea...here we are, it is what it is.

Driving across town I was amazed at the number of Authorised Workers out on the roads.
The traffic was heavy compared to empty roads last week.
That list must have expanded a lot since I last looked to include just about everyone, in fact it must be now a matter of who isn't on the list than who is on the list.

Grab a yellow vest and hard hat, rack & ladder on SUV? Paint splatters on rear bumper, simple? ;)

Coppers are done with it in Vic.

Not by the RMB gate?
Nope, not by anyone.
They were wealthy people who decided screw it, we will pay the fine if we get caught, but they didnt.
Maybe RMB have packed it in since there is no lifts and no one much going there.

Apologies for turning this into a pseudo weather post:

For optimal skiing conditions, we may want to do an anti-rain dance looking at that forecast for Friday/Saturday. I think WA is getting most of the the cold air with this system.

Headed up to take advantage of the glorious weather this morning. I would say overall a solid net loss, even at the top. Beautiful nonetheless though, so many great photo opportunities so forgive my slight over-indulgence on the photo front. Skiing conditions were highly variable!

Must be something in the subconscious about the ABBA resurgence - when I read that, it came out to the tune of "Fernando"

"Can you hear the guns on Standard........" (try and get that out of your head now)
So, what does snow making on a Buller run portend? A possible re open? of a limited number of runs?
