Very big news - crunching the numbers now.

Looking at Buller specifically, will an IKON pass holder be able to pre-purch/load the 7 days credit in some way, or will it be a daily window walk-up proposition?

Good question, thinking about a trip to US, this will be great but have already bought my Buller pass, can we transfer to Ikon?

Yep - Alta/Bird are within the '7 days combined' pool

This is very tasty given my 2020 plan.

I'd say that's very much an individual thing. If I was looking at a multi-resort pass, my main concern would be that I have full access in my home area. This is where the value proposition for the Epic Pass and Ikon Pass varies in Australia. The Epic pass allows unlimited access to three resorts in Australia, while the Ikon Pass gives you either 5 or 7 days each in Thredbo, Buller and the Queenstown trio.

If you have the ability to day trip to either the NSW or VIC resorts, the Epic pass provides a better option if you plan on going more than 5/7 days to either. As far as the Northern hemisphere, it comes down to the choice of destination. Granted, there's a difference between the Epic Aus Pass and the full Epic Pass, but in terms of travel to the US for snow, it's not drastic.

Yeah we are tossing up between a Japan or Canada/US trip.

This pretty much makes the Canada/US trip the best option.
SLC-Jackson then Banff-Revs. in a month trip is a tasty option.

Looking at this a bit more closely I am not sure this will be any use to someone wanting to ski Buller more than 7 days. I would normally ski 30+ days on my season pass, so until it is unlimited at Buller I don't think it adds any value to me. If you want to ski a week at Thredbo and a week at Buller and then overseas it is awesome. If I buy an Ikon to ski overseas I will still also need a Buller season pass to ski at Buller in reality.

That’s the part that hasn’t been clarified yet, what are the benefits for Buller passholders?

I think it will likely be the same as for the Mountain Collective - 50% off daily lift tickets and that's it.

If they really want to compete, they need to offer an "Oceania" local pass, with unlimited riding at Thredbo/Buller/Queenstown and limited days in the Northern hemisphere destinations. That's something that I would be interested in, but unless Thredbo and Buller are sold to Alterra, I don't think it's super likely.

Will be the same as Thredbo you'd expect .

Ie no benefits to season pass members at ikon resorts.
    50% off at MC resorts.

Correct. Ikon is a totally different product sold by Alterra (kind of like a lift ticket bulk buy), whereas Mountain Collective is an alliance of resorts with mutual benefits to those resorts' season members / pass holders. It's all about options.

Better to buy a Buller Season Membership which now includes 50% off lift tickets at Mountain Collective resorts

It's worth emphasising the fact that if you buy a 19/20 Ikon pass now, it can be used at Buller for both the 19 and 20 seasons.

Agreed. The flipside of this is that the 19/20 pass is only valid for Thredbo in 2020. (Just in case someone isn't paying attention).
