Planning a family trip for January 2012 over 2 weeks. Looking to take on the sites around Munich for two or three days then ski for a couple of days in Innsbruck then move on to Ortisie for four days then finish off in Venice for a couple of days.

http://www.val-gardena.net/ortisei_en.htm

Any suggestions on accommodation for 3 skiers and 1 non would be well appreciated, first class in the older areas of Munich, innsbruck and Venice? and bed and half board in Ortisie.

But I really need assistance with the transfers. Looking to drive, pick up a car on arrival at Munich Airport and drop off at Venice airport. Will I need a 4WD? Can do you the drive safely in winter?

Thanks guys.

Stayed this place in Venice - was awesome and a welcome respite from the usual European shoeboxes....

This place had a good location in Innsbruck - rooms a bit small though - but hey - it's Europe..

No you won't need a 4WD. The car WILL have winter tyres being from Munich (but check anyway)... And hire snow chains as well.... Not a problem driving over the hills ;-)...

My experience is Europcar is best... 4 people - maybe get an Audi A4 wagon or similar (BMW/Merc)....

Why skiing in Innsbruck though? It's nice - but there are better places....

Oh - when I saw "not a problem"... I am assuming you know how to drive in snow...
