If I had ten days in a motor home, I'd see more of NZ.
Chch. Hokitika. Franz Josef. Wanaka loop.

Yeah it’s still up in the air. But we’re prob gonna ski cheeseman so 2 nights near Christchurch. Then head down toward Wanaka where prob spend 4 nights to ski cardrona. Then te anau to see fiordland. Then back to Queenstown. Honestly the only dates in stone are Queenstown arrival. And being at te anua.

Cheeseman good for families - would split it one day cheeseman, 1 day porters,
would hit up Oahu to break up the drive - good for mixed abilities ( particularly if you the adults like offpiste and a bit of hiking along the ridge)

Applies to anywhere in NZ in winter.

Get a Wilderness motorhome, they were way better than the other companies like Maui, Britz etc, all newish vans, super decked out and the heaters were so good, you can wear shorts and tshirt inside easily.

But doubly so for Mt Cook/Tasman glacier. Cloudy weather - no view of Cook and planes won't land on glacier.

Agree, if sufficient time. ChCh, West coast, Wanaka, Queenstown, Te Anau, Milford, Queenstown, return via lakes and Mt Cook. Assuming flying in and out of CHC.

Our plan was chch, somwehere between there and wanaka ie pukaki, wanaka, te anau, milford, queenstown then fly out of queenstown. We looked at the glaciers but google some pics and to be honest didnt look that grand in the photos so decided against it. Anyone got any good motor parks to stay.

I prefer the scenery of the WC over the Mackenzie .
I love how wild it is. The big beaches. Massive rivers.
The drive up from Haast is epic. If it's sunny.

Wanaka Lakeview Holiday Park had a nice view and easy walk into town, great hot showers as well.

I've just driven a round loop from Christchurch. What i would say is a definite:
Mt Cook, as mentioned weather dependant. Hooker valley track is amazing (cannot be understated) and easy for The whole family.
Arthur's Pass, out of your way but access to plenty of club fields and just phenomenal driving scenery overall
Milford, obviously, do kayaking if the kids can handle it
Driving the passes, haast, crown and the one starting with L I always forget.

    Things I thought were overrated:
Glaciers, good to see but given the commercial nature of it and the grip that heli operators have on it, it's not a must see

Feel free to ask any questions you might have

We even added Lewis in our last trip.

Agree with the glaciers . Good spot for a ice cream though.
Its pretty sad how much they have retreated .

Approx 30% in the past 40 years. They got cooked over the 2017/18 summer too:

Extraordinary vid. Thanks for posting. I hear that hard nosed scientists are becoming "emotional" over Great Barrier Reef, as well. Would love to ski on one of those glaciers one day. Better get around to it!

A bigger loop could include Dunedin, Otago Peninsula and The Catlins too. A break from the bloody mountains and the possibility of seals, sea lions, penguins and dolphins for the kids...

Very reminiscent of the west coast of Vancouver Island imo.

It was pretty busy when I last came through too. I’ve never seen so much traffic at St Arnaud. That was awhile ago now though.

St Arnaud is wearing its big boy pants now. Very fashionable town.

My Nan lives in Renwick. The amount of traffic that was going through there was insane .
Back to normalish levels now though.
