Gosh looks so different now. 2 season white and green. DH commented on the snow still on the peaks. He was at Inawashiro yesterday. Commentd on the amount of snow still on the peaks even though my mogul skier was doing water ramp on a 30 degreeC day.

I'm getting worried. I remember when only Niseko use to have its own thread. Then Myoko, and now even Madarao is becoming popular. I might have to keep my next destination a secret. ;)

The funny things is that the Niseko thread is probably now the one least used. Only had 2-3 pages last season I think.

Re Windsor, last year's thread mentioned that it had different people running it. Looked very empty most times when we went by.

Windsor was actually pretty full last season - well beyond their expectations. I heard a lot of people apparently came just off the name recognition. I don't really want to make any comment on the host as I really don't know. They got one good review on TA last season. Would be hard to top Shige-san and Yu-san (the old hosts) though.

A couple of bars that cater to westerners - Skate Bar and Windsor. A smattering of very good izakaya and local restaurants. Plenty enough to keep you happy for a week or two. If wanting to party every night then it's pretty much a thumbs down - which is just fine by me. Myoko is really for those who are into riding and just like to chill in the evenings with a few drinks and a nice meal. Options here.

Do you mean Myoko Kogen - the town where the train station is - or Myoko which, combined with Arai is a city?

    What are you looking for?

Lots of good restaurants down along route 18 and 292 down at Arai. And the place I think of as a truck stop, which has about 10 restaurants grouped together.

The Windsor at Akakan; the "bar" was about 3 mts x 3mts when we stayed there 5 years ago. But Shiga-san played an amazing taiko.

Our dates might cross over this trip. We should be in Madarao for a week somewhere between 11Jan - 30 Jan. Only booked flights over so far, will wait until later in the year to book accommodation.

    Updating

Iiyama to Myoko bus is go for the 2015/16 season. Will make Madarao and Nozawa transfers much easier. Coming from Tokyo the transfer at Nagano will still likely work better I think.

Madarao-Tangram-Akakura shuttle for next season is still tied up in the discussion stage.

No guarantees B2S but I'm pretty sure the answer is yes. My contact who does the ticketing stuff has just nicked off to Mount Buller for a couple of months so may not know for sure until he gets back.

If a public shuttle doesn't appear I will be doing them semi-regularly for my guests. Unfortunately I won't be able to take any non-guests due to licensing requirements.:( So fingers crossed that the shuttle comes through. Either that or the ropeway/monorail/funicular. ;)

Anyone know if yu-San and shige-San are still at Windsor? I'm thinking of heading up on a group trip and the other couple want to take their mini-mini-me's, so hoping shige-San is still around for some babysitting to make the trip easier.

The Windsor changed hands so I would assume they are no longer there. However I know they are still in the area.

Update - spoke to another Madarao contact today. It looks like kids U12 will pay from next season but it won't be much - maybe around 1,000 yen. Although not as good as free I don't think paying $11 a day for the kids will break the budget.

Is that the same for foreign guests ?

This season just gone their child ticket was 1000yen a day but they offered free kids passes to overseas guests.

And some Aussie travel agents are still promoting kids ski free for 2015. http://japansnowaccommodation.com/p...family-ski-holiday-kids-ski-free-madarao.html

Will have to double check B2S. The bloke I spoke to was from the tourist board not the ski resort. My contact from the ski resort is in Buller and not answering emails at present. It could also be that the package deals are covering the cheap cost of the kids tickets. Will update here when I find out.

Another piece of news from the meeting this morning is that there won't be a Madarao-Myoko shuttle for next season. Funds have been set aside though for a Iiyama-Madarao-Tangram-Akakura shuttle from 2015/16.

I had checked with Yu-san for another friend. Shige-san is happy to do child care this year and it will be out of their other place which is down below Windsor. If you want their contact details feel free to shoot me a message.

How young are the mini-mini-me's ??

Back in 2011 we put our 1 year old in the childcare in the Myoko Snowports building that was run by Akakura Kanko.

This also looks like where the Windsor childcare has moved to -

    @Nozawaman @M_G

Is there a Nozawa 2014/2015 thread ? Seems like there's a few people that have already planned their trips but they have no thread to post their holiday dates.
