    Hi all,
Is there an up to date crew list?
If so put me on it. I will be in Myoko from the 26th of Feb. Probably be there for 5-6 days. This will will be my first ski trip to Japan so I'll probably be on here asking questions over the next couple of weeks.
    Cheers,
    Mac

    I reckon it could be. Freeze level should be low enough and looks like moisture coming in overnight and tomorrow morning. Temp now -1 at Sekiyama;
alt. 350 m. At least you'll have it pretty much to yourself.

Yeah coming by myself. Last minute decision, just booked my flights today.
I was planning on staying at Kogakuro, Akakura and hitting the slopes there with a day trip or two to some other areas.
I haven't booked anything so if there are any suggestions for accommodation that would be good.
Skate bar looks like a good place to hit up.

Unless it's a reasonable dump I wouldn't worry about Seki. It would be fairly chopped up and it will take a half decent dump (at least 40-50cm) on the top to make it worthwhile. That said, if you get up in the morning and the Baron has blessed Myoko go for it.

    Hi Guys,
Does anyone know of any Onsen in Myoko that you can rent a private bath for couples? It's the wife's birthday while we are there and she expressed an interest.
    Cheers,

There's a few hotels that do it. When you get to Myoko ask your accomm provider and (if they don't have it) they should be able to point you in the right direction.

Going to be huge. Can you believe this - they are stocking up on chains in Tokyo (and lots of places running out). Not just the alps are going to get hit. We have a group into Tokyo on Friday morning and the Myoko Gal is worried the bus might be stopped by the snow.

The system should come in on Friday morning and keep powering until about Tuesday morning.....

However, the "they are stocking up on chains in Tokyo" doesn't make any sense at all (people in Tokyo not making sense, I mean). It's a classic northerly right through that period, and Tokyo will be sunny right the way through....

Any bus being hampered by snow would happen closer to Myoko, not near Tokyo!!!

Just reporting what my missus said from the news Sandy. Might be the usual Tokyo panic if 3" is going to fall. What's it like in Yokohama this morning?

You'll be fine by Sat AJC13B. In fact the timing will be pretty good - nice new base by the time you get there and plenty of fresh for at least 2-3 days.

With the talk of Seki I thought it might be worth mentioning the shuttle arrangements we sussed out. Not sure I saw them in this thread and nobody really seemed to know the deal in the village too. We had to show some of the staff the brochure that got handed to us by Takano to convince them that there was a shuttle that left from Akakura.

So, basically: 8:30am on weekdays from right near the post office at Akakura Onsen. The cost was 2000 Yen return and it goes express to the Seki carpark. It leaves Seki at 4pm sharp. There was talk of bookings on one flyer (and the hotel graciously faxed through our names) but not on the other one. You can probably just rock up and give the driver 2000 yen and he wouldn't bat an eyelid. I guess the reservation notice is there in case it's busy, but I honestly can't imagine a greyhound filling up on a weekday for Seki.

    Hey Guys

I've just put together a video edit from my recent trip to Japan. Footage recorded in Myoko and Nozawa.

Hopefully you enjoy it half as much as I enjoyed boarding in it! [IMG]

Yeah that was my first ever time riding in powder and trees so I had an absolutely amazing eye opening time. I'm not quite sure what I'm going to do to keep entertained at Perisher this year!

Looks like you had fun. How's Sachiko going at Hotel MOC ? We stayed there for 2 weeks back in 2011. Was the hotel very full ? Many Aussies staying there now ?

Now you have to plan next year's trip. [IMG]

Much nicer in HD BTW. Think I'll put that on my YouTube channel. Good job! [IMG]

skichanger, was hoping to be back next week with a bunch of friends but have to go off to the UK instead. Looking to be there again late March/early April so will hopefully catch both some turns and some cherry blossoms.

Haha the directors cut will contain 5 additional minutes of me trying to stand again up after that!

Yeah had a great time. Sachiko is going well and I was very impressed with Hotel MOC (only thing I would like added is wifi in rooms)

According to her son they were packed the day before I got there (school kids) but for the majority of my stay (7 nights) it was very very quite maybe 10 other people there total (a mixture of Japanese, a couple of Aussies, some euros) It did get busy over the coming of age weekend but they were mostly Japanese families.

When I arrived in Nozawa people were definitely keen to hear about Myoko. I met 3 really great guys and they ended up heading off later in the week to Myoko and stayed at Moc on my recommendation.

Haha as for next trip 1 week after getting back I booked tickets back to Japan but for September/October so no snow this time. I've only ever been overseas to Japan, I keep telling myself I need to expand my horizons (North America, NZ etc) but I'm struggling to justify going anywhere but Japan which I love so much.

Thanks M_G! yes I'm really happy with how the HD quality came out. Appreciate the channel add [IMG]

Maybe if a few guests recommend wifi they might put it in.

I'd consider 10 other people during the week quite good for hotel MOC. When we stayed there for two weeks there were a few nights during the week that we were the ONLY guests in the hotel. The weekends were often busy with Japanese guests.

Yeah it would be great if they did. With the layout it would probably only need a few extra access points 1 for each level. Other than that though highly recommended.

Haha wow that must have been quiet! I did feel special though with my own table set for one next to the window each breakfast.

It was always interesting to see what peculiar breakfast would be served with the trusty coleslaw [IMG]

Japanese breakfast food looks like stuff Klingons would eat, except it doesn't move by itself.

I was wanting to go to Canada next winter to catch up with some friends in Vancouver and do the BC road trip thing (Highway 3 Baby). But, after visiting Japan for the first time the thought of doing a month or two on the cheap at Myoko Kogen is going to be pretty hard to resist. I'll really need to work on my Japanese though...

First day out on the slopes today, mainly around Akakara, just getting the legs in. Lift lines were ridiculous today! Satomi says they will be gone by lunch time Monday [IMG]

At Alp hotel. I'm the big guy rocking shorts and a tshirt in the hotel (I don't feel the cold) or with a couple of kids in tow, so come say hi [IMG]

We gave it a miss today. Some headed out but came back after seeing the lift queues. I think the bus driver thought it all a bit strange when they came straight back.

Shorts and t-shirt - spot the aussie. Here is not much colder than the ski resorts in Aus. My kids would wear shorts all year to school if school would let them.

Look for the skiers on mogul skis in the park either getting huge air or doing insane flips.

Yup, what a day. Easy 50cm outside Alp alone. We found some stuff that was closer to a meter of fresh!

Bof you're at Alp right? I'm the 6'3 bald guy with goatee named Steve. A few Aussies about so no idea who you might be [IMG]

Hit Sugi this morning..initially thought, 'oh yeah, 30-40cm of fresh on top, pretty sweet'. Then delved into the gully skiers left of the top lift...and it was at least twice that deep!! Drove back to Kanko for lunch and it was snowing even harder, had to dig out our driveway just from the few hours of snow that fell through the morning. Still dumping now.

On a more sombre note we got informed by Junkstar today that when we get to Manila next Friday we have to check out and then back in.But this will take longer than the 45 min wait for the second leg of the flight to Narita. So we will be declared ''no show'' and will be stuck in Manila airport at 7.00 AM with nowhere to go.The only redeeming feature of this stuff-up is that my wife booked it and not me!Looks like we will have to pay an extra grand or so to get to Japan with another airline.I hope.BEWARE JETSTAR.

That sucks big time hotaski. Surely there must be some way around it? Will it be covered by insurance or is there fine print there.

Also, just so everybody knows, I have friends in Myoko this week and was hoping to come as well. But other business beckons and I didn't make the trip. Hence I'd like to take credit for the snowfall as it would surely be not as good if I'd come. [IMG]

Not by insuraance but hopefully Jetstar finds the recording of the conversation with their idiot employee. They would then reimburse us for the new tickets that we have to purchase.

Bloody hell is all I have to say about yesterday. Bloody hell as it was the day I had to leave Myoko watching all that stuff fall from the sky and bloody hell as I taxied it out to Nagano Station.

What do I say about Myoko? Hmm, smallish town, snow is too wet, mountain is a tad too small and I don't think I will bother going again. Will be heading to Niseko, it is so much more cooler.

OK, for the others who are still reading, I have removed my Niseko sticker on my car with a new shinny Myoko Kogen Nigata sticker. [IMG]

People of Myoko are really nice, my hotel was simply wonderful(Hotel Refle) which was in a fantastic location. Regarding Myoko I think the place still has the simple charm f a Japanese ski resort compared to other places that have turned into, well a little tasteless. I hope it stays that way. Food was fantastic and the Soba noodles are simply brilliant. It is good though if you put effort to learn a little Japanese, instead of only sumemassin and allygato.

Where did you purchase said sticker? We struggled trying to find Myoko merch around the place. Seki Onsen has some great stickers (e.g. "Most deep powder zone" and "Support your local" mO.Om) and we picked up some shirts from the store at the base of Sugi. But, the best stickers we ended up with for Myoko were a couple of really basic Akakura Onsen stickers. Not sure how long they'll last on the board.

And yeah, sucks about the recent conditions man. The last week doesn't sound like it's been too good after the recent rain. It's really only getting back to normal in the last day or two. I know what you mean about the temperature though, I was literally sopping wet by lunch the day we went to Seki.

I got mine from my host. It says Nagano-Niigata Snow Resort Alliance Alliance.

Typical, I thought. Japan has found a way to bureaucratise an alliance by including another alliance.

Merchandise coming next season I hope. What kind of gear would you like to see? Stickers obviously. Hoodies? T-shirts?

Aus to Japan via Manila?? WTF??
We've always flown Direct to Japow - recently GoldCoast to Tokyo - with no problems, and Jetstar have always been good (on time and helpful).

Obviopusly, if you try to work the angles by screwing the timetables, you'll get caught sooner or later!
