Crazy 2 days ago muggy , yesterday dryer air with SE winds and today back to humid.

Even though it says 16.6 deg min that was last night it was warm this morning.

The mins forecast here now are lower but the temps seem to be higher than the lower ones forecast lol.

Will see what happens , it's cloudy but maybe once it clears the humidity may drop.

No lockdown here.

Quite warm outside looks like we're a degree above average this month despite it feeling like a cold month

1627726899792.png

Last couple of mornings have been warm

1627726949838.png

Thursday next week looks like a return to winter here

1627726999671.png

Here's a thought.. how come with the dew point around 18 deg all day today rel humidity between 76-84 percent ... the feels like temp around 22 -23 degrees today and the actual temp 22.9 deg...

How come with all that it doesn't feel sticky/unbearable ? Is it just because the sun is not giving out as much heat in July ? Maybe I'm acclimatised? Maybe because the mins are much lower than other times of the year so there is some coolness to begin with in the morning ? There was not much wind today either... if this was any other time of the year and this humid and light wind it would be uncomfortable.

Hmm I wouldn't personally view feels-like temps around 22 to 23C with dewpoints around 18C that muggy. Generally lower overall temps and the sun not being as high in the sky at this time of the year would help though.

Obviously there is some subjectivity to it but it's generally considered that dewpoints of 15 to 20C are tolerated reasonably well by most people although can feel a bit muggy. For a rough guide, refer to: https://media.bom.gov.au/social/blo...hered-its-not-the-humidity-its-the-dew-point/

As far as the Bureau's own feels-like temp aka apparent temp values, the formula takes into account wind speed as one of the factors and is actually quite sensitive to wind (I'd argue a little bit too sensitive in fact).

It was a nice late winter weather day today
but here we go again with another lockdown
hope this is the last winter season for lockdown and none in winter 2022
I noticed quite a few jet craft into Brisbane today over my position
Anybody know how many planes coming into Brisbane this week or day?

I don't off the top of my head but you can view that info here:

I guess if you came here from Adelaide or SA it would be.

On the BOM site it says "Starting to feel muggy but still comfortable for most" I guess i agree with that, it feels a tiny bit muggy but not enough to be uncomfortable.

@Retired Weather Man I noticed 5 out of those 7 months had above average monthly rainfall for your location at Manly, and annual temp anomaly close to 0.7 C below. Seems to me Nina and recently IOD have given us a more wet and cool start to year and middle year continuance. It’ll be interesting to see what the end of year brings. My location is more inland than Manly and it was cooler and damp here to.

Our old friend, much cooler westerlies comes through close to midweek after our next front pushes the current very warm airmass away.
They might be a bit gusty at times too.

There's some weak instability before the cooler air arrives with some thunder possible, mainly favouring southern and western parts of the broader SE QLD/NE NSW region.

A bit of patchy light rain or shower activity also possible but even if it happens, any accumulations look low east of the ranges due to drier air in the lower levels.
Some places along the ranges near or south of the border might do a bit better but not looking at anything too big in terms of totals on average.

Some lower-lying sheltered areas may also get early morning fog before the cooler airmass comes through.

Not any kind of major event overall by any stretch of the imagination though.

We had 3mm the other morning with 1 rumble of thunder with that patchy activity. That brings our total for the month of July 2021 to 131mm on my end of town. Record rains! If you average in both highs and lows, pretty close to average temperatures for July 2021. Beautiful day today with no fire going for the first time in a while. Another 2 days of open windows before the fire is cranked up again. No big deal as September is right around the corner!

Why do the auto wind wipers come on when it's foggy? I noticed that when out this morning... it must be the humidity in the air . It's a RAV4 with auto sensing wipers. Was no rain .

Bom has a hard time prediciting min temps here. They say a temp higher and it is lower (13 deg this morning not 15 ) or they say a min and it is a few deg lower.... guess it's a tricky time of year.

Quite warm here , feels like September not August. I want a little bit more "winter" here before it warms up lol. Currently 20 deg feels like 24 dew point about 19 deg and humidity 91 percent.

Wasn't until i lived up here i noticed you could have 80-90 percent humidity during the day , next to no clouds and no rain... always associated high humidity with rain .

We didn't have fog early this morning on the sunshine coast, but very low cloud that was thick in patches. It was almost totally clear when I started my early morning run but very low clouds appeared to the NE and quickly expanded and at time it was almost 100% overcast. Probably foggy in the hills.

Below are a few model snaps from GFS 00z run 10am today and ensemble heat map GFS 18z 4am this morning

(1) moisture feed around 10amAEST tomorrow- main wetter air band passing to the south of us in IOD style.
(2) GFS ensemble precipitation heat map for Brisbane QLD suboptimal tropics
(3) GFS ensemble precipitation heat map for Armidale NSW New England tablelands.
I view these types of forecast graphics as a helpful combination but note this mix is still only GFS.

Howdy gents,
Well, I been hiding in the electric blanky for over a week up here near Kingaroy, little quaint town of Yarraman in the Lil 'ol camper, down to 2-4 degs on a couple of mornings but some glorious days as well. seeing some sites and history around the area, plenty of photog etc.
Notice this Lil cell just an hr ago abouts, on the Sthrn side of BlackButt,, as per Radar, Been a couple of cells there actually, but I'm busy doing pretty much nothing, Lol
Noice view from the campsite too. as photo shows, beautiful !

Thanks for sharing that pic and post, I like that area @PlumbBob
great mix of elevated north New England tablelands and valleys of subttopics SEQ.
Also glad to hear your business doing nothing much involves some photography and radar watching. :)

Some places along the ranges near or south of the border might do a bit better but not looking at anything too big in terms of totals on average.
..

Not any kind of major event overall by any stretch of the imagination though.
recent forecasts from access C for precipitation and ECMWF for lightning aligned to what you posted yesterday KK
possibly some rumblings on the downs and further south on the NE tablelands

not even going to try and second guess max temp in Bris today. Cloud mass is all sliding away to the south of Bris. I'll stick with 28C

Still looking pretty expansive over us to me, given the current satpic. The cloudband as a whole is moving in a general eastwards direction. There may well be periods of decreased cloud cover at some stage before the thicker cloud moves across later today/tonight though.

no worries - I had a quick look to see where the TSs were heading & they were all south & going SE. I've learnt to stick with BOM forecast maxs. Warm cloudy day coming up.

Yeah these types of cloudbands can often be quite deceiving to the eye. Virtually all the individual visible cloud features and elements including convection (except for any stronger NE-moving convection) are being dragged ESE by the steering flow but the system as a whole is ever so gradually advancing eastwards (more-so the southern section of it than the northern section). It's only evident when you look at a long period of satpic animation and broad area obs though e.g. greater than 12hrs.

39.6mm in the 24hrs to 9am here. Light to steady rain developed late last night, and became solid moderate rain in early morning which continued until it cleared off around 7am. The wettest day of this winter, and by some margin too.

It was also our 100th rainday of the year. You'd usually expect to surpass 100 raindays later in September.

Slight chance of a storm this afternoon about the local area.
