Call me slow (which I am) but I was checking the snowfall on the cams and just noticed that the chairs on the Mt P Double now have safety bars instead of the dinky chain.

When did they get changed over???

Definitely last year for 2017 season. The question of what happened to the old chairs remains unanswered!

Actually I think 2016 was the first year of the new chairs.

    Can't believe I didn't notice them earlier.
    I didn't get to perisher in 2016.
and last year was only a short 3 day trip during the spring blizzard so I didn't get to Mt P then.

given the delay in getting the Guthega chair, 30 years doesn’t seem unlikely

Does anybody know why they remove the chairs from Mt Perisher double at the end of the season, but not from the other fixed grip chairs?

Could be wrong but pretty sure they remove the chairs from most lifts at perisher over summer. Maybe they start with the double first?

The whole cable has to be removed, x-rayed and any weak parts replaced by splicing in a new section of cable. You've got to remove the Ts and chairs before you can do that.

I have seen the chairs taken off every lift at perisher except Pretty Valley and Interceptor - they probably come off too I just haven't seen it.
All the t-bars get taken off as well.
Another explanation given for it was when they are re-mounted they go on the cable at a different point to reduce the compression wear on the cable

The chairs and tees get re spaced on the cable during the season as well too even out the wear.
