Victorian resorts are managed by government appointed boards and the lift companies are separate private entities. This has some advantages but can also get confusing, especially when they work against each other rather than together. At Falls they have recently been trying to work more cooperatively (yeah). One tangible sign of this is that today they announced a new single logo to be used by both resort management and the lift company

It will be phased in as stuff needs replacing so you'll still see the old logos around for a while.

Not a huge thing, but a good step in the right direction. Hopefully a single unified website is not too far away...

Looks good to me, but green and blue peaks. No black?

As some of you would know, I've been collecting ski resort logos as part of my listing of every ski lift built in Australia. But I'm missing earlier logos, so if anyone knows of pre 1990 logos I'd really like to know. :)

New logo looks more like a conveyancer company to me. Remember when ski resorts tried to portray a casual, funky vibe? Now its all about professionalism.

Thanks VSG, that's the one I was mostly thinking of. It's a bit rough but I think it's the only version on the internet.

BTW. There is a site that has thousands of historic ski maps, including 80 from Australia and 66 from NZ, all arranged by resort. Worth a look if you're into that sort of thing. http://skimap.org/Regions/view/14

ROFL Trust someone to point that out.

I think logos need to be simple yet eye-catching/memorable - it's a very tough thing to get right.

I think the green & blue peaks in the new logo are about right, roughly reflecting distribution of runs in the green and blue categories.

Yes please. :) I'd be very grateful if you could scan it. Either post it here or ask and I'll PM you my email.

BTW, I'm also chasing other old resort logos, I know I'm missing a few, especially from NSW. The ones I have are at the head of the entry for each resort: http://wikiski.com/wiki/index.php/Australian_ski_tow_directory

This was listed as a required action from the recently released for comment ARCC Marketing Strategy. It highlighted as an action for resorts and ski lift companies to have a single logo, marketing and on-line (website and social media) presence.

I think Falls were heading that way anyway. Since Helen Moran took over it appeared that there was a more cooperative approach

Lift Co. spent a fortune on the metaphor/calligraphy logo and now they are dumping it. Incredible. However it did not pass the litmus test of being easily recognizable at 20x20 pixels. Which is much easier said than done. This new one works at 20x20 but is not particularly distinctive.

    I agree.

It's a pretty poor attempt at a logo, IMO.

looks like an advetisment for le chalets
why the constant need to alter logo's surely money better spent on things that benefit the resort and its visitors
