Me too but it will be welcomed and well done PB for building new lifting capacity.

I hope the bottom station is well below the Cow Pastures bottom station so the valley floor feeder road can be an affective return skier collector. A chair will attract a lot more boarders and they really need to be feeding into the bottom station on a valley floor return road. Maybe close the existing high traverse trail for safety reasons.

The new chair makes me sad.

Guthega will really get trashed unless they put in snowmaking too.

The map above has it a little bit lower, but not really low enough IMO

Agree that any new lift is great, so well done PB

It will bring more people to Guthega which has pros/cons, It will open up the area to lots of low intermediates which is great!

The lower traverse hasn't even opened this year (well it wasn't on Monday), but there is heaps of snow there now.... some more snowmaking around here would be great too!

Great news indeed! I was wodering if and when this ever might come to fruition.
But unfortuantely we still have the Blue Calf T-bar...I was hoping the chari would replace the 2 T bar issue.

But overall, I am very happy! Guthega is a nice little underated spot.

    I really really like this

That wait...on the T on a weekend is horrendous

I'm a bit confused but can see if you were referring to the Guthega low traverse (as opposed to the even lower creek traverse) I can see why - there will be more riders coming down M-in-L,..., Karl's and despite the check uphill signs someone traversing wouldn't spot them coming? That would be a hazard. With no J-bar it would be redundant anyway.

The traverse further up the hill from the creek traverse ......... i.e. the high traverse or the middle traverse or the low traverse. Its got a lot of names.

Once the chair gets cranking every little aspect on that side of the hill will be explored into a myriad of bobsled style runs between the groomers and all those extra people will be crossing the high traverse at speed.

Indeed, if the bottom is open, the top needs to be closed

A few little warning/Give way signs doesn't always work....

    This..
the fall line is at right angles to the traverse...
Just erect a fence a few hundred feet up the hill..
    running parallel to the chair

Remember the wait on the Merritts Duplex? Compare that to the cruiser chair. More capacity will simply bring more punters.

    Disagree.
Guthega is still a hike..long cat track...its also outta site outta mind for most.
    Merritts is
    -Food
    - easy access.
    -consistent snow (man made)

Think about areas at Perisher like Interceptor.
Considering how good the terrain is ..the chair doesn't get used much for people riding.

Re Guthega. that chair will also affect some other runs... that I won't mention on here.

Guthega, the 'secret spot' of PV is now no more. As in, no more secret.

All I can say is: parachute.

About time. The only way to ski Guthega at the weekends is to get there early and be gone before 11am when the hordes arrive.

Unfortunately until they put snowmaking in at Guthega some of my favourite runs (like Parachute) will remain almost permanently closed - although it should be open this weekend [IMG]

High traverse comes out about 1/3 of the way up the cow t bar
Middle traverse spit you out top of the j bar
Low traverse comes out mid way up cow pastures j bar
Low low traverse runs along the creek and shoots you towards the bottom of the j bar.

That is how the resort workers refer to them, always have. For various reasons not all of them are built each year, the low and the high always are but the other 2 are variable depending on snow and other things.

The low low traverse goes over some really boggy ground and needs a lot of snow to open it as it gets closer to the j bar.

The 2nd lift you point out vsg goes from the creek back up to pleasant valley to reduce the huge load on PV and terminal chairs at the end of the day with crowds heading back to perisher. Its been on the master plan since it was designed.

Im glad the quad is going in to guthgea and agree the low traverse

Both of those would open up some of my favourite secret spots, so not sure how I feel about them! The one that would link back to PV would be interesting. It would enable circular loops of the whole resort, and make it a shitload easier to get back to FV from Guthega. Would chop almost half an hour off the return leg.

Actually, on closer inspection it may not actually link as far back as I thought. I was thinking it would link up and over the back of Back P mountain, but it would appear not.

It's the top of pleasant valley so beginners paradise. The lift would allow guthega to perisher in 1 lift so its more about circulation than awesome terrain. Having said that there's so nice stuff in there for beginners and intermediates when there's enough snow.

Some nice little roll overs that provide some small drops in the trees.

But it's access and circulation primarily. It would also mean more a fess down that way so perisher to guthega would more reliably be up the quad then straight around to guthega

Possibly relevant - I heard earlier this week that there's been a deal about the purchase of Perisher.

Would not surprise me. James packer has sold out his share in two other large private personal holdings this last week, Magellan funds management and Seek. Obviously cashing for some reason. Packer owns part of the resort through his private company CPH. The rest is owned by transfield afaik.

Plus long term risk analysis means ski resort much less viable after 2020. Snow costs lot to make. Warmer times.

Will there be any car park increases with the new lift?, the new lift could cause some problems in the car park if there is no increase

Tranasfield kumagai owned blue cow and guthega before the merge, they maintained a 48 or 49% ownership post packer purchase, not sure how that translates to whole resort ownership though...?
