Interesting they have announced before they have lodged a DA or got approvals.

Makes far more sense than putting a lift up Stillwell. Means the opening of Guthries is not subject to their being sufficient snow to cover the Sacred Stones of Kunama Namadgi.

Presumably it will be the same line as the poma. I don’t want it to go to the top of Guthrie ‘chutes’ although many would. Not having to worry about the rocks will help at the bottom As fozzie says. Love cp.

The post said it would be a Doppelmayer lift, no surprise there as it seems Dopp has all the NSW resorts stitched up these days and other lift makers like Leitner-Poma don't get a look in.

But does anyone know what size chairlift it will be? While I doubt they have enough traffic to install a 6-pack like Buller has been building all over the place, will it be a double, triple or quad chairlift and how far up the hill will it go?

If it runs on the current lift line it won't run any higher. And a triple would triple the capacity of the existing poma.

Do they build new triple chairs nowadays?

The Merrits chairs have been flogged off and I understand the towers succumbed to a torch. So nothing much could be left except for the rope, bullwheels and motor. Besides, it was built in 1969 so it's worn out and ancient by any standards.

However they did buy the 1990 vintage double chairlift from Baw Baw. But it's been sitting at the Cooma airport for well over a decade, so I doubt it could be resurrected. However that old chairlift was a Doppelmayr, the same brand of lift they said they would be building, so there is a very, very slim chance they may be scraping off the cobwebs and giving it a second life.

Its good to hear this announcement . The group have had some real challenges and setbacks of late but they march on. Hmm yes it will be interesting to see if its the double in storage at cooma airport , this wouldnt be a new thing for the group with the chair at Selwyn that replaced the t bars being recycled . Its a bit of a surprise not being mentioned in the original 10 year plan , a good idea for existing infrastructure that overcomes the yearly wait for the rock field to fill in . Hopefully the poma will be relocated as the stillwell lift .

Didn't Merrits get a whole new drive in the mid to late 2000s when they moved the loading station up the hill?

It says increasing lift capacity in the area by 100% so assume a double?

I would think any resort would have to get a quote from the competitor to ensure they’re obtaining a competitive price, but in the end having a local agent in Dopp wins them over.

They aren't buying a new lift.

So no need for a competitive quote.

The old girls got plenty left in the tank . It’s a really simple system . Electric motor ( they go forever ) and a few pulleys and wheels

Both Guthries and Stillwell are awesome spots for chairs. I'd still like to see both proceed. Skiing from the top of either is awesome.

I think the proposed stillwell lift is listed as a surface lift, presumably not a chair.

    stating the obvious..
anywhere reasonably accessible from Kangaroo ridge.
assume logically they will groom to service the load ...
biggest issue up there moving forward IMO.
    water.
being top of the hill / catchment for limited snowmaking...

Would be a short poma up the ridge, avoiding the flatish run back to the chair. Cannot start lower as would require removal of trees, which would not be granted. If it went up the bowl, it would ferk up the bowl. Pointless lift is pointless. There are two places at Charlotte that are not currently lifted, that would benefit from a lift; one is an easy hike from the top of an existing lift, the other is only enjoyed by those earning their turns.

And agree, dam capacity limits snowmaking as need sufficient for village use.

    I've only done 3 x 1 weeks there.
    15 ish years ago
so just around / before the sale.
    and RSA :D
Pulpit bar was never the same again ;)
    Love the place.
    Leave Stillwell un-lifted. IMO.
It's an easy wander across the ridge.
    your options being ?

    Pretty much this.

Cheap upgrade for Guthries would be replace Poma with T-bar. A chair up Guthries will avoid the Sacred Stones of Kunama Namadgi (AKA glacial rocks), but put the lift on wind hold more often. Everything off Kangaroo ridge can be accessed with a short hike. Everything off Guthries can be accessed with a short hike. Anywhere else that may benefit from a lift is east facing, remote from the main resort and I want to keep it for the few that ski it.

Problem is Blyton Group is trying to appeal to a market that will be bored with CP after a day. Existing market is young families. Potential growth market is AT crew, who like MTB'ers will drop coin on their activity. Chookfooters are tight arses and don't spend any money in the village.

Au contraire, Mr Bear, I have passed many a lobster over the bar at the Chalet in years gone by. A skinny ski trip to Kozzie can be thirsty work.
