    Sounds nifty...

No complicated building work or fittings are necessary for the installation of the Snowfactory. The snowmaking system is delivered in the container on site ready for operation. It only needs to be connected to the power and water supply, then snow can be produced around the clock, regardless of the outdoor conditions or the water temperature on site.

I'm just wondering what kind of sound will come off it when some punter slams into it.

I vaguely recall reading somewhere that they were going to try and get a base going mid to late April or early may, but it was dependent on weather obviously! But it looks like there going to try and test it pretty soon so we could see it turned on as soon as some time in the next two weeks

    Wouldn't be complaining.

First test run was this morning. It's like little slithers of slush at the moment. Keep in mind this is absolutely the first time this highly complex machine has been turned on and there is much more testing and refining to be done.

Also as Vermillon identified this won't be Japan pow, but it will be a great base for us to add traditional snowmaking and natural snow. This will allow us cool down the ground when we want and cover anything we don't want poking through.

If it's anything like the ones I've seen in Japan then it will be quite heavy and slushy.

Is this not the same system that utterly failed in testing some years ago because it wouldn't work in the cold winter temperatures?
I seem to remember it too was set up inside a shipping container and was capable of making snow at temperatures significantly above 0 - it just didn't work below 0

This new machine seems very impressive. I would never doubt Technoalpins capabilities, they are known to create state of the art snow making machines

I'm surprised Thredbo doesn't do something like this on Friday Flat, they have really struggled last couple of years and this would solve a lot of problems for them.

Maybe having a hotel manager as the GM of a ski resort doesn't really assist with planning / priorities ....

not just multiplying in size! the number of piles seems to be multiplying too! have they already started on making their base? possibly just being sneaky about it

Looks like Selwyn has invested in one as well I assume it uses the same technology as the one at Buller.

Similar. Based on the figures from that machine it's about 1/4 the size.

It isn't really a snowmaker, just an industrial flake ice maker with a distribution system.

maybe we should call it a snowbase building machine, ie it makes a base that you can put snow on top of

Such a shame that Lake Mountain couldn't get their act together for one. :( They've been looking at this same system for years, but I think funding might be the obstacle, and lack of certainty as to who runs the resort etc.

i thought Lake Mountain has a system which is very similar. I remember last year they were making snow form their machine at above-zero temperatures
