The one at Selwyn is similar technology , both are really flake ice machines , you could park it at the fish markets and sell to the fishmongers , they are different though as i understand it the Buller one is water cooled and the Mt Selwyn one is air cooled ( or the other way around ) Not really needed if temp under zero as regular snowmaking could be employed . But to get a base and to open runs early until adequate natural arrives or has been devastated by r..n they will be terrific . i reckon every resort in Aust will have one and congratulations to Buller and Mt Selwyn for investing in it

Have Selwyn got theirs yet? I had a look at the cams earlier today and didn't see any slushy piles anywhere.

As mentioned earlier it would be ideal for Friday Flat.

Is it more of a thing you'd use in a large open area IE B Street/Burnt Hut/Summit, and outside Buller places like Friday Flat, Front Valley etc more than the windier runs, as the snow needs to be pushed around more? For example, I cant see this really being practical in Whiskey Creek, or the sections that always suffer on Standard.

SF220 has been doing a great job so far. Looks like we've got around-about enough snow now to open Bourke St, not taking into account loss from pushing etc. I should say 'almost' to be on the safe side. Predictions for melt rates from cat pushing or ground temps will be based on empirical observations we're continually gathering.

Yes perfect for Friday Flat , probably lower super trail as well ,, Front Valley ,even Smiggs , all Australian resorts really,if they are smart they could do a deal and a resort in the Nthn Hemisphere could use them during our summer and ship back here for winter here , will soon be as essential as regular snow making and a tube ride :)

From looking at the cams, doesn't look like there is anywhere near enough to cover Bourke st out of those mounds?

Somebody mentioned a few days back that they appear deceptively small in the photos.

I've seen some more close up pics and they are definitely substantial, but there also looks like there is plenty to do.

Well I guess there is still two weeks go! Plenty of opportunity for the slurpee machine to do its trick.

Will be interesting to see if they spread the mounds out over the current coverage or let them keep building up...
Looks like a decent cover so far:

I am of the thinking that they will wait til tomorrow's hopeful falls and then start grooming?

And Perisher have just proven that they can do it just as good as the slushy machine if not better.....Given the right conditions of course.

It was always being talked about with the new slushie machine but they were never going to commit until it was guaranteed, then I think it became apparent that with the slushie alone it couldn't happen, but now there's some natural stuff it may well be back on the table.

So, can we call the new machine a success? If so how long before we see another one on Buller Spur / Wombat?

Was just talking with a friend who has already been up a couple of times, he said it has made a noticeable difference. As well as getting Bourke St going it's filled out the Skyline load area, and is now on Shakey etc. Good move in this person's mind.
