Long range EC has a doozy of a southerly pushing through for the south island from next monday on.

    Direction should favour canters hills.

Snow to 400-600 metres or so for Otago .

Southland region could easily see snow down to 200/300m ASL.
But yeah, as you say it's got 'Canterbury-special' written all over it with that SW'ly fetch.

She's got quite the trailing ridge so I wouldn't be surprised if it suffers a major downgrade.
AAO/SAM outlook isn't overly supportive of it.

Monday night looking like some epic Autumn temps for The Catlins.
    Snow to 250/300m ASL IMO.

Upwards of 15-20cm for Mount Aspiring NP & Canterbury regions.

MetService going for Snow to 600m tonight/tomorrow in Southland & Otago regions.

I think they're undercooking it with FL's hovering around 950m, until tomorrow night when they lower to ~850m in the deep South. Snow down to 500m IMO.
Snow flurries possible in Queenstown tomorrow IMO.

10mm/hr fall rates for parts of the elevated Canterbury Region.

SW is not the best for Canterbury.

Should be a reasonable early season flick, but nothing too crazy.

    Yah.
Frontal band delivering in from West which is where it’ll favour Central South Island.
SW’ly follow up looks favourable for additional falls over next 24.

Central Southern Alps, yeah. That doesn't quite equate with what we more generally consider Canterbury, especially in skiing terms.

I’ve just booked flights to Queenstown for early August so I’m now officially invested in NZ weather. Here’s hoping I get better snow than Honshu 2020 (Shiga Kogen was pretty good to be fair).

Snow from 1500 to 1000 metres over the weekend. then Monday/Tuesday, in particular, looks like it will be nice and cold with snow in the southern lakes down to 500 metres.
What do you think weather gurus? 10-20cms?
