Guess it's as good a time as any to kick this off.
So this fella got a gig "Down South" for the summer.
    http://www.antarctica.gov.au/living-and-working

My default is NH Japow. 100%.

4 weeks out from my Hobart arrival.
    2 weeks pre-departure training....

A few folk on these pages I've met , crossed paths ( unknowingly) over the years.
Few others I sense will appreciate my personal journey.
Many others feel like we know each other after my time here in the black hole. ;)
Top of my head I'll tag you as I go.
In no particular order simply for starters.
    @LMB @chicski @Fozzie Bear @Untele-whippet @skifree and lately @Airguitar
Will be phlat / rolling terrain going I sense.
    No big expectations btw

As far as my BC kit it goes like this. .
Think I've got it covered .

    https://www.voile.com/voile-v6-skis.html

    http://www.kochalpin.at/en/brands/contour/hybrid/hybrid-mix/

    and a good camera.
    plus the mandatory Go Pro.
    SSD cards.
Spotify library down loaded / saved. !
    external hard drives.....

    some calm abiding meditation

and prepare self for the scent of Penguin shit.

    Steady as she goes skipper.
    Deep breathe....
    Peace.

Just FYI the Spotify thing might not work, it needs to ‘phone home’ relatively regularly to ensure you’re paid up and therefore eligible to have the music saved. I’d check that before you rely on it.

Keep a search on the binding to see what breaks & what parts you need to take.

And enough epoxy and heli coils to do a complete remount if req.

also have to contact Telstra about their global roaming capacity.

This sounds like the ultimate tick on the bucket list. You know the rules around this place of course, pics or it didn't happen;) I presume there is some sort of digital communication to the rest of the world from there.

@nfip maybe a chin wag with @Red_switch ..... IIRC he has spent a bit of time down there with the Un Zed mob.

Re music..... biggest iPod you can get.... and do you have room for a guitar (acoustic obviously)? An excellent opportunity to serenade thousands adoring of chicks (even if they do smell of fish tained poo)..... would fully expect you to be shredding by the time you get back.

yeah there's a few guitars down there as I understand so will leave mine at home.

I don’t know you nfip but I see we have similar music tastes. So I keep an eye out for your musical recommendations and other posts. It sounds like an awesome adventure and something I would dream of doing (I don’t suppose they have much need of an A/V technician in Antartica). All power to you buddy.
I also look forward to hearing about your adventures if you are able to post. Be well and travel safe.

I work in the middle of nowhere offshore and spotify still works as long as you have access to the internet just log the phone (or laptop spotify) onto wireless and its fine you dont need to have a cell phone network. Need to log on every 29 days or so.

Phone needs to log on to wireless as well as you need to select offline mode from the app while its actually online. Can do that before your trip down although pretty sure you will have wireless internet on the Ship via the big dome VSAT terminal. Should have good internet down at the base as well.
