Hi guys,

I’m selling my deposit to stay at Chalet Zekki in Hirafu Village, Niseko for 7 nights from Jan 5 to Jan 12. It’s a 17 person luxury chalet located in Hirafu Village. See details here: http://www.zekkeicollection.com/en/property/zekkei/

Our group was unable to make the numbers to make the property affordable so I’m looking to sell the deposit and hand over the reservation.

The total cost of the reservation is JPY 2,274,160.00
I’ve paid a 20% deposit of JPY 454,830.00

If anyone is interested in taking the booking from me, we would arrange for payment of the deposit to myself, and connect you with the booking agent to pay the rest of the fee to them. You would just take over the booking on our behalf. For anyone seriously interested I’m happy to Skype call with you, provide my own ID, booking paperwork, bank transactions and contacts of the booking agent to confirm legitimacy.

There is no negotiation on the price.

For anyone interested please email me on joos.meyer@gmail.com

Cheers,

Hi guys,

I've read that a few people may have concerns about the security of this way of doing the transaction, so perhaps a better way is to arrange full payment to the booking agent and myself to get the refund from them separately. For anyone interested we'll work out a way that makes sense for you.

Cheers,

It was worth a shot @Joos but I really think this is the wrong demographic to offload that booking. And I very much doubt you'll get out of it without some financial pain.

I guess the abundance of Mies Van der Rohe Barcelona chairs is to blame for the price?

Did I just read 26 grand for 7 nights?
what the actual?

If you can get 17 folks it's only $200pp per night, which for peak in Hirafu is actually pretty good. Especially if it's a nice place.

But yeah, $26k per week gives some sticker shock!!

The problem is getting 17 people at this stage. The people who would choose to travel in a large group like this would've pre-booked their accomodation well and truly by now, similar to how the OP booked well in advance.

Plus if you go to the link it actually says 15 people, 5 of those in a bunk room (kids). So shared by 5 couples/families.

To be fair, this is Peak family holiday time in Hirafu and if the accomodation went back on the market with the accomodation provider they would probably find someone thrilled to secure it. I just don't think the OP will find that person here - we are pretty much all organised already, or looking for a more budget/less people option. It's a niche market.

He needs the richer, more hipster ski.com.au forum ;)

And it's right down the bottom of Hirafu (not close to the lifts), so need a shuttle bus ride.

Also, if not budging on the deposit price to offer incentive, then it can be hard to sell.

THIS.
A person would get the same deal going through the accomodation provider after the OP gives up and loses the whole deposit.

The only win win scenario is if the OP was offering say 50/50 on the deposit.

But it's still a niche market.

Fixed it

Hi guys,

I'm reading that a few people may have concerns about the cost of the place, so perhaps a better way is to arrange final payment to the booking agent and I'll just ask for 50% of my deposit. That way it may tempt some people and I'll just have to cop the loss.

Cheers,

The listing says it comes with free use of a 4WD van.

However it'd be going some to fit 15/17 people... and even if it's more than 8 seats you'd need a light rigid licence to drive it.

So you have to shuttle? This seeming less attractive by the day.

I'm sorry, I just can't imagine there's a group of 15 people sitting around looking to book the exact same dates at the same steep price.

@Tonester I suppose it depends on the group.

I have traveled with 18 before, but we all had our own apartments, 3 families in the same complex and one a short walk away. That worked. You could get space from each other. But we were there for 4 weeks.

A week - really good friends... its similar to staying at a lodge or pension except they are not strangers they are your buddies.
It could indeed be the breaking point in some friendships though...

He's posted this right across the interwebs. So I think we may as well go into junk time.

M-G, Well I do think it is ok for a person in business to try to sell things, and I do not think it is wrong to use many channels.

But of course as a sales person you have to know the walue of your goods and the price you can ask.

Maybe he is a bit optimistic in that respect.
Except he's not a business paying the business rate to advertise here. Nor a long standing member offering an opportunity for someone in his community to take over his booking at a discount. He's just joined and spammed a heap of ski, board, travel and Japan forums hoping someone will pull him out of his financial loss situation with zero incentive. YeahNah.

Just sounds like a poor investment. If you are going to put up that amount of money you would want to make sure you had a solid commitment from sufficient other people. Now it is a desperate scramble to recoup money. Can't imagine anyone here (or elsewhere) jumping on board at this stage. He either has to find others to join or cut losses. Or hit some Chinese forums (if he hasn't already).

^^ this.
Should have gotten the split deposit from each person, so the risk is spread.

I'd be concerned this type of thing would be a scam. If legit (& I havent nor wont look into it further) I would be liaising directly with the accomm provider, to make arrangements to pay the deposit direct to them & they in turn refund the original deposit payer...cant be too careful these days.

Yes, agree. It is quite possible/likely this is legit, but people are naturally going to be suspicious, so dealing with the provider should be the correct course, but chances of getting much if any of that deposit back would be small.

After bitter experience, my first rule of organising trips or events was not to book for anyone with my money. If they didn't pony up before payment was due they were not on the trip.

And in this case that x 100. An expensive mistake.

Ditto. Even then I has people bail at the last minute, thereby increasing costs for those left, then whinge when I wouldn't give them their deposits back.

there is very little chance this is legit.
so a group of people smaller than the amount needed to make it somewhere near affordable, have taken the chance they will fill the quota and committed a deposit?
