Got another question, best lense for night skiing here? I brought a light yellow one because I thought it would be fine but it's a bit too dark, and it's a pain to ski without goggles especially at night. Can I get a set of clears in hirafu for spy zeds?

Hey white boy what you doing up town
Hey white boy

Good morning skiing the groomers with smitty + bro. Windy up top, half the mountain on windhold, but the snow is good. Around -10 and snowing light on and off all day, all in all not that bad conditions.

Yeah they will be the go again tomorrow morning, then depending on when and how much snow falls might find somewhere else or take and early one and head out late again.

Smitty are you still over there? when do you leave to come home. i'm back in the office already planning next year trip. Going to do 4 days Rusutsu, 4 days Niseko and maybe 4 days up at Furano. 9 days at niseko was a little to long for me this trip, think I need a break from the place.

Just sitting in Chitose airport now.

Drive back was nice (took our hire car from Kutchan and dropped off in Chitose). Stopped off at a lake for a bit, then went into Chitose and had some Maccas for morning tea. I wonder if there is any point to speed limits in Japan????? They were about 50km/h the entire time, but everyone sat on 70-80.

I'll be back to Honshu next year, so much more variety, but I have had a fun trip this time. Thinking of hiring a car in Nagano and heading north, but i'll spend the next while tossing around ideas.

Re: Niseko 2011

pretty bad out there to be honest, no visibility up high and the snow is poor quality. A mix of sleet and snow, maybe we'll get some cold air this evening but im not counting on it..

Re: Niseko 2011

You on the same mountain Neslot? Snowed lightly from 2:30-5 and probably picked up 5cms, Hana 3 was the place to be this arvo. In now going to suss out this famous korean BBQ in kutchan tonight.

Got 1 really nice run out of fujiwara ASAP when it opened, but from then on vis anywhere up the top was shit. In the trees was much better. Cant complain about a day like today, if you knew where to hide from the fog you were sweet. Neslot we should hit up a ski ive got a few spare days left and my brother and dad both injured themselves first day.

When we were in Maccas in Sapporo looking lost a nice old couple came up and asked if we needed help with the menu and then invited us back home.
I saw that there were blood stains on their snowy geta.
Bloody lucky not to have ended up in their freezer as next years's Chop Suey I reckon.
We dropped our Sausage Muffins and bolted .

I have to agree it wasn't great out there up to about 2pm. Thick fog up high and icy down low so I headed in for a quiet beer or two. Sounds like I might have pulled the trigger too early though. Hopefully we get a nice dump overnight and it's back on tomorrow morning.

Good snow this morning, 10-20cms in most places with some other knee deep. Got 1 faceshot but you needed to know where to go to find them. Lots of fuckwits around, they are like ants it's unbelievable, most places tracked by 11. Now it's warm in the village, bottom 1/3 of the mountain is slushy rubble leftovers, yuck.

NOTE: Today was a day for say Mantras or Prophet 100s early on. It was not a day for strapping surfboards on and pretending there had been 1m over night. Jesus some people are idiots. Oh, and if you ski/snowboard with headphones on you are a retard and deserve to be injured in the next accident you cause.

Niseko train turned on at 4:45 today, 5cms already I reckon. Turned a bad day into something promising. Very windy up top, gondola and quad both running slower. Some good runs already but as there was a melt during the day now a freeze lots of mini death cookies and bumps to trip you up. If this continues for another hour or 2 ill head back out for a late run.

Experienced the same in January cept the crew looked like northern beaches Sydney rather than kiwis - toewrags. Got a question - a mate now spends 4 months of the year in Niseko. At home in the Snowies he has an Alaskan husky which he would love to take over but isnt sure how it would handle the change in climates ie round Oct/November when leaving for Japan the dog is madly shedding its winter coat and vice versa coming back in march/april I'd assume. Will it regrow its winter coat twice? Derek is is around Niseko, think he's partners in that Kabab joint.

Knee deep and deeper if you knew where to find it today. Was 4th gondy up and hit Hana hard in the morning. Strawberries tracked by 10, good lines in Blueberries early and around the left of Shinya. Did some great waist deep lines off the side of Hana before heading out G5 for a good run in the first 2 bowls and off the ridge. Too many people traversing once again, ruining potentially good lines. Top lifts were re-opened just after 3pm and I was lucky enough to get on one of the first up Wonderland, smashed that for 3 runs before it became a tracked out mess. By that stage at least a foot at the upper mountain. Snowed pretty much all day, snow showers I would call it it would be heavy for 30mins then almost clear then close up again. 15cms overnight and at least that during the day, but some massive pillows taken out today, more snow will be needed for tomorrow to be any fun in bounds, if that's where you want to play
wink.gif

Saw quite a few people in Hana on the terrain park and half pipe today too, as if you would be hitting the park on a day like this.

There's only about 3 months when we are invaded by the foreign ski crowd. It's essential for the prosperity of the resort. The rest of the year it's a lovely, quiet little village. I for one don't mind putting up with that 3 months, especially since on the whole most of the people coming here are great and cause no issues whatsoever. Too many benefits for this region to get too upset over a few idiots here and there.

Of course GN but the amount and level of rudeness from some people has to be seen to be believed, as im sure you get to see a lot more than I do.

Quite a few kiwis here too with less than desirable manners.

Just started to snow again, nothing major but hopefully enough to fill up my tracks. I should add today if you had the balls you could smash any line, even through traverse lines there was enough snow. Took me a run or 2 to get the balls but once you fire in it's all gravy and blowjobs.

We had a change of plans and are now in Niseko. Honshu just didn't look like much fun late in the week.

Managed to get in a couple of hours this afternoon. Have no clue about the place but had some fun at Grand hirafu.

Any suggestions for tomorrow?

PK - Didnt see the blinger at all, I assume he still has his green jacket, although stylez change so he might have been on next years fashion by now.

Faceshots all morning, fujiwara and jacksons the pick, I even got a run late in the morning down blueberries in untracked fresh, shhh dont tell anyone where! All morning it was great came back in soaking wet from snow everywhere. Went out in the arvo for one last run, hit up the top lifts and G2 and they were superb. Super day tomorrow with some vis will be good but most of the good inbounds and gated tracks are done.

Not sure about the change in climate issues but what he really has to watch is Australian quarantine. If he takes the dog out of the country it may need a spell in doggy immigration detention when he brings it back. AQIS website says a minimum 30 days in quarantine for dogs imported from Japan, and there's a range of other requirements. See here.

Warm one today. The sun is out and melting away the good times. Looks like it will be even warmer tomorrow.

Gates opened early (9ish) and we had some fun before the afternoon of slop.
