The last two years we have had separate threads for both both Niseko and Hakuba, I feel it's a good practise and we should continue it, otherwise the general Japanese thread gets way to congested.

    2011 Niseko Thread
    2010 Niseko Thread

Big year for Niseko this year, with the upgraded 8 man seater in Hirafu, supposed to cut the speed from 8 mins to 5.. plus the extra capacity. I assume this will result in most of the runs being tracked out early on, but one must head to the gates!

Hi Neslot thanks for taking the time to provide this information.

Just to let you know that the a couple of the cams you have in your post are off line and have been for a long time. They are the first Hirafu cam and the Mount Yotei cam.

Here is one to use for Hanazono:

    http://114.179.71.225:6001/SnapshotJPEG?Quality=Standard

Also the Daily Flake is no longer but Niseko 360 is providing daily reports:

    http://360niseko.com/blog/category/daily-snow-reports/

The link you have provided as the Niseko Hirafu 6 day Snow-Forecast is actually the Annupuri forecast, Hirafu is:

    http://www.snow-forecast.com/resorts/Niseko/6day/mid

A link to JMA site may also be handy:

    http://www.jma.go.jp/en/amedas/203.html?elementCode=4

I think that's about all [IMG]

Thanks for the info Toxteth, I've updated the OP to reflect those changes. Sad about the daily flake, I enjoyed that quite a bit.

Ratherb@thesnow, cheers but that link is already listed under 'Weather'.

I spoke to the guy who owns the outdated Mt Yotei cam, It should come back online in Jan.

Niseko 360 posted a video this morning with Woodley the dog bounding through the fresh snow on the Family Run. Looks like they had a nice fall over night. One report I read this morning was predicting between 50cm and 1 metre for tonight!!

13 weeks for me but in that time we should be able to get a lot of pages.
Does anyone know much about Weiss resort?
Is it still running? Its near Niseko, you can see it from Hanazono.
They did have cat skiing there. No not pussy cats skiing ,they would take you to the top on a snowcat
then you would go down. Then up then down etc.

I think I remember that place. After they closed the lifts an enterprising local set up cat runs. Not sure if it's still going but heard it was pretty good. They did have a website talking about it so maybe if you search around a bit you'll find it.

Here's one - http://www.nisekotourism.com/en/blog/2011/01/17/cat-skiing-weiss-horn/ - it was still running last season

I saw the operation still running last season from other nearby peaks. I understand it's pretty gentle terrain, most of what people where riding was the old, partly regrown pistes, beginner to easy intermediate.

On a deep day, the low angle would be a little frustrating, unless you were packing some Gentem Superfish flotation!!

I say your better over at the old Iwani skifield cat operation. Better terrain & further afield.

I couldnt find anything on a google search of Iwani other than Rabid K9`s post!I think I read somewhere in the past that Weiis was very gentle slope.I wont tell our beginners about it as they might want to go there.I think a day at Rusutsu and a day at Kiroro would be better.
    Nearly at page two?

Gooble & the overload of information at our fingertips has dulled our ability to find information by other means.

There is more than one way to skin an 'Iwani'!!

Have you done Iwanai cat tour Rapid? At ~$330 aus it's a bit pricey, definitely considering it.. but the videos i watched all seemed to show very tame terrain.

    Really?
I did not know that..I thought the herring was a North Sea/Atlantic fish...it must have swum to the North West Pacific the last time the NW Passage was open
    Heading off on Friday.

Sorry this maybe a bad thing to say....but as a child spoilt with deep sea fish....I look at herring as bait or shit fish.... My dad who used to put that lovely fish on my table every week now is quite offended when I won't eat his smoked herring.

Every animal has it's place and purpose, especially in the ocean. But having said that how someone can eat herring and enjoy it, I dont know. One of the worst things i've ever eaten.

Don't have an issue myself. Have occasionally had rollmops and don't mind a herring salad. I'm just less keen on it for breakfast in much the same way as I'm not an enthusiast for the smoked fish, raw eggs on my rice and pickled plums as a japanese breakfast.

Absolutely he would.A few years ago there was one at the little caravan/coffee shop at the bottom of Hanazono.I asked the owner
what he was and I thought he said he was a BurMese mountain dog.I thought he had a lot of fur for a dog from Burma. The owner
corrected me a few days later, told me that the dog had cost him a small fortune in vet bills but it was worth it.Beautiful dog.
