I don't know for sure but the Irish pub in Niseko that plays nothing but Aussie Hip Hop would be my first guess

oh yeah, forgot about that place. I remember they were playing the hottest 100 there last year on Aus Day and from memory had the cricket on... could be a winner.

They had the Australian Open tennis on in January so it's a good chance. Try talking with a Pom accent so you fit in.

I just found it hilarious that an Irish pub in Japan was playing Aussie Hip Hop! Aside of the name I wonder what part of the pub was Irish. It was like, well, every Irish Pub in Australia!

Except Aussie Irish Pubs play top 40. I'm talking to YOU Gilhooleys!! Learn from your Japanese/Irish relations

bit dodgy driving in from Chitose today. Little Passo fishtailed into a bank a car in front of us , we were being tailed by a minibus, turned out it was full of very braided army chaps who leapt to the rescue.

Hey guys. Looking at staying at Sekka Lodge for a few weeks. But there doesn't seem to be cooking facilities in the suites, other than that it's got everything I want.

Can anyone recommend somewhere close to ski in/out in Niseko where I can get a kitchenette / flat screen tv. It's just me on my own, so really expensive large apartments will be out of my price range.

    Thanks heaps.

No idea bobby, and if you are looking for luxury definitely don't listen to me, but I know Owahi lodge, (google it), has vacancies. It s a backpacker accomodation, no frills, but location is incredible...at the top of the top village across from the Welcome Centre. A lively happy young crew of occupants, and a big kitchen you can use. My older two are booked for the balance of the month once we leave here on Sunday, and this is a repeat as the 18 yr old stayed there for 3 months last season doing his instructors training.

    Toto, you in town dude?

this is the bottom of one of the 3 Kiroro runs way off to the left. We arrived about 12 o'clock, maybe because all Japanese boarders are natural, was left with untracked goofy foot stuff for a few runs and Mrs TW had her first taste of Jap Powder. The skiers were falling over themselves to do the mogul run in the middle. I ask you. [IMG]

Usual crowd problems at Moiwa, where we turned up at about 1030, not all that enthused; there had been a couple cm's overnight in Hirafu, bu tat the top of Moiwa there was foot of fresh at least. Of the limited crowd, about half were Australian and almost all of them were going out through the gate. Apparently the horror trail back now has a large fissure in it too.
I was happy to stay ingrounds and there were fresh tracks all day at least till 230 ; I was pretty trashed. Things were getting a bit boggy by then at the bottom, a warm day.

Re Niseko; this is the first time I've been here outside of school hols for a few years. There's quite a few folk around and if they are bogans, they are ageing fast.
I was forced to endure the Seico Mart door tonight, the Lawson's wine selection sucks.
New Gondola isa deal better, no surprise I guess.

So skijapan have released a media statement saying that it could be record breaking snows in Niseko. In the same statement they have said Niseko village has recorded just over 14m of snow to date. I am sure GN has said that in the past Kutchan has had over 20m (meaning the village in Niseko would have had more than that). So that means the current levels wouldn't even be close to a record.

Is this more BS from spamjapan?

There's some imprerssive creative writing going on around the site for sure smitty. Today was dull and damp and definitely spring like and pretty unremarkable all round, but we still had fun at Moiwa in a subdued , but playful way. One of the local crows was a bit loud though IMHO.

Definitely warmer and wet, which meant rain n the village today...but it turned to snow a little while ago...stopped now, but hopefully a fair bit more to go in this system.

Thanks for the Bouken Kitchen tip Go Native, went there last night, and everyone loved it! Back to Sapporo tomorrow, any similar recommendations before we get to Sluggers to hit some baseballs?

Today was a suprisingly good day on the hill. Didn't seem to have been much snow overnight but it had drifted nicely up high to give some really fun turns. Spent most of the day in Fujiwara no sawa bowl.

It's utter rubbish. Total snowfall in Kutchan to date is 939cm. Last years total was over 10m and we'll have to see how much falls over the rest of March if even that total will be broken. 04/05 saw over 14m fall in Kutchan. Not a chance in hell they'll get close to that this year. Overall I doubt this season in Niseko will even reach average snowfall.
What has occurred this season is some guys have started taking daily snowfall readings to give an approximate amount of how much has fallen at village level. It's for obvious reasons a lot more than falls down on the plains in Kutchan.
Peter Murphy either has a very short memory or is just getting caught up in his own marketing hype. It's been a good winter here no doubt and there is a lot of snow on the ground but it's nowhere close to breaking any records.

Why is it always the way that this occurs when I am leaving... Maybe it is so I leaving salivating for more and come back!! Green with envy GN. Although I am not dissatisfied with the 5 days I did have, plenty of fun every day and a good mix of conditions.

Stupid question. Where is Jackson's? Heard people referring to that North face down to the snow road that you take back to Hanazono as it, but i thought that was Fujiwara no sawa. Others indicated it was the back face there which involves a huge traverse/hike to get back to Hanazono then others again indicated it was the area below the snow road.

Jackson's is accessed by heading down the slope below the cornice on Higashi one ridge. You hit the snow road you are talking about at a saddle. There's a slight incline on the other side of the road before dropping into another big bowl which is Jackson's. And then you have the big traverse back out to the base of Hanazono.

Ah yeah i know where that is now. Could see it well from the 90 degree bend in the road, and looked like a tasty face but could tell that the traverse out wouldn't be much fun. Out of interest, what does that road actually service??

As far as I know it's just an access road for the resort. It's closed to normal traffic in summer.
