    AndDee - many thanks.

Sandy - Well, Japan is a nice place, so it's easy to be nice...

Timmy - only lack of time prevented the complete narrative. Maybe on another trip...

Fattwins - My experience with Deep Powder Tours was that they were efficient and responsive with the bookings (we did Niseko accommodation, Japan domestic flights and Sapporo-Niseko-Sapporo land transfers through them), they turned up on time for the pick ups at arrival and departure and the Niseko office was helpful and polite and made a cracker of a restaurant recommendation. I can only judge them on their performance and I can't find anything to fault them (and I am as fussy a customer as they come).

My experience with them is quite different and I would never recommend them.

They were fine though there were some instanced where they seemed to have a few communication problems with other staff.
    Still they pulled through.

Another excuse to post another picture from February 08.

Again my experience with Deep Powder Tours is very different. They are not trust worthy and use bully tactics.

It's a comfort really, that in a world of constant change you can come back to the travel forum after 4 months and find the same immutable things, the pics of Youtei, the ugly Australians resounding through the gonzo reports from the back streets of Middle Hirafu, the pity for the Japanese challenged speaker, FT having a dig....
I've been as guilty as the next poster, but please "No Youtei" should become a forum rule, like in Waynes World where the music store had a "No Stairway" poster on the wall.

I've used DPT and couldn't recommend them highly enough. Injured myself whilst there and they were fantastic in making sure I was OK (and the +1), getting to/from Kutchan base hospital and doing some translating as well.

    Friendly and efficient [IMG]

Re: Niseko & Hokkaido 07/08 Trip Reports, Info, et

Hi everyone, some good pics and reading here. I have a question for the niseko experienced or fatwins seeing as he is there
I am looking for options at going over end of feb by myself, but during the process ive decided that 14 days will be better than 7,
I havent told the wife that this will be the case yet tho, now that im trying to stretch it and still get permission,
im wondering if its worth getting the 14 day lift ticket all mountain or just for hirafu, this is from weather point of veiw as
I dont know the prevailing wind for that time or area or direction of the hill. Are there days that one side will be better than the
other as far as wind goes? Or if its blown its all blown? Its hard to tell from trail maps and such how far the lifted area goes around the mountain.
its_bundy_son@yahoo.com.au ..if anyone has any other tips. I know its pretty cheap anyway but 14 days is a lot of beer too.
    Thanks
    Al

    Hardcore,

In my experience I would go with the all mountain pass as with the four different fields all facing slightly different direction you can just about always find a protected area down low out of the wind. Also there is no great saving in pre buying a 14 day lift ticket, rather just buy the pass a few days at a time and then if the real bad weather closes in, go and do something different. You are there at the right time for a day trip to the snow festival at Sapporo

Oh, ok cool. Are you over that way too Sandy?
I think on that ill do the all moutain then, only thing is if the wind is up and the top of the mountain closes,
it would seem difficult to get anywhere else anyway without busing it. Ide rather go to Hakuba (i think thats the one I was looking at),
but bro and sis will be there at Hirafu so it would be more fun to have some time with them there. Went to perisher after 16 year gap in skiing
last week and im hooked solid again.

Re: Niseko & Hokkaido 07/08 Trip Reports, Info, etc

    hey guys,

i'm planning to head up to niseko during mid to late january. just a few questions for anyone who's been up there.

would this be one of the better periods to head up there?

do you guys recommend a diy trip, or following a packaged group up. any recommendations on companies running trips up (preferrably on the cheaper side. i'm not too fussed with accom)

and lastly, when would be the latest time to start booking? coz i'm definitely going, but i'm trying to find some friends to head up with me. its a little boring going up alone. Although, alone time between me and Mr Pow pow would be awesome [IMG]

any help would be much appreciated

hey phunky if you want to go at the end of feb, ill share a room with you. If anyone else is travelling alone at that time give me a yell, single accom seems to be harder to get and dearer

Re: Niseko & Hokkaido 07/08 Trip Reports, Info, etc

PJ, spot on, that would be a great time to travel over there. Last year I went with a company called snowave and I could not fault them in any way. As my first time there I had concerns regarding the language barrier and finding my way from Tokyo airport to Haneda Airport & from Sapporo to Niseko. Having now done the trip it is all pretty straight forward.

I looked in to doing the bookings for myself for my 2009 trip and It was probably only slightly cheaper so for the convenience factor we have gone again with Snowave for the package to Nesiko but have added some of our own bookings for accommodation in sapporo & tokyo on the way back.

Don't be to concerned about traveling by yourself as the minute you get on the plane from Sydney you will meet people who are doing the same trip as yourself, or who have done it before and know the routine, just jump on there shirt tails and you will have no problems. Same with the accommodation, you will be bound to meet people who will happily pass on local knowledge on the mountain and the village.

Hey guys, maybe you should be posting under the Niseko 08/09 topic.
Phunkyjunky, I know what you are worried about with going it alone but the rest are right, you do meet up with people and using the this forum, group meetings are easy to arrange.
