Going to get this one started.

Few interior BC resorts have had some snow in the last week:

And mammoth has had a dusting to top up the huge drifts they still have up around the summit. Going to be a short off season for them:

Things are looking up for a decent season. You'll catch me providing live obvs from biggie from mid November.

Various Rockies (on my Facebook feed) looking at snow come the weekend - The Horse, Jackson Hole, Revie. Good to see the El Nino didn't eventuate; been watching that. Looks good now for a 'normal' Pacific NW season, whatever that is...

Winter storm warning now in effect for parts of Montana and Wyoming. Over a foot of snow possible in places.

Just for a bit of a look (no certainty of forecast intended)

    EC Seasonal 500mb Anomalies (December
    )

    EC Seasonal Precip Anomalies (January)
Signals potential for a Pineapple Express.

A broadening short wave will bring snow tomorrow and Monday (local time) across the North West above ~1900m. Lower in Canada.
A blocking pattern in the Gulf of Alaska & a weak polar vort is the main driver here.
Mt Baker, WA could see 20-30cm by Tuesday IMO.

I'll be in Canada and the USA for part of Jan through to early March so I will be reading this thread intently.

Does anyone have recommendations for good forecasting websites that I should keep an eye on?

Nice set up for some snow in the Interior PNW (ID, WY, MT), even some for Utah and Northern Colorado.

If you are going to Utah, WasatchSnowForecast has become part of OpenSnow. Meaning Evan is only posting there and no longer updating his website. It's probably worth investing in a subscription.

Winter WX Warnings in place for MT. Textbook upper low is influencing a surface low (lee-side trough) to form after it passes the Rockies today. Storm should stall until Tuesday AM local.
Warning issued says 12-24 inches in the Blaine County mountains.

I have been following Steamboat and a few other areas and whilst there have been a few dustings etc. this weekend (specifically from Sunday evening so really from about now our time) was forecast to deliver the first significant snowfall of the season. Checked the pow cam last night and was surprised to see them get a quick blast of 6" odd inches just up high and woke to see a foot on the cam and the snow level had lowered right down below the base.

Will be interesting to see how the main forecast storm pans out as Joel at http://opensnow.com/location/steamboat has more than 12" forecast into Monday.

For anyone that is interested go check out that CO weather thread on TGR for some great pics of the early snow around the CO mountains from the last couple of weeks (and no doubt will be plenty more following these current storms).

LOL;) But those numbers are very impressive for October. MT looks amazing, same with CO. The American ski forums I lurk in are going wild.

Weak PV and decent Bering Sea Omega block pattern aiding some good anomalies over Pac NWest and Rockies in the last few weeks. GFS Long Range is throwing up some good upper level anomalies also.

Snow laden (leaved) trees caused havoc in Havre, MT earlier this week... Not something that typically posses too much of an issue in the height of Winter.

Storm total for Havre, MT by Yesterday morning was 15".

This 3 day MME(GEFS + EPS + SREF) outlook shows the major snow storm in Colorado that's hitting tomorrow. They are expecting around about half a foot to a foot in much of the mountains (inc Front Range). Denver is also set to get a few inches of snow.

Whilst not a particularly moist system the PacNW/BC does alright to reasonably low levels on Wed/Thurs.

The usual suspects have done ok in the last 24 hours; Vail, Telluride and the likes picking up ~10cm but Monarch (central CO) went all out and mustered up a good foot or so...

Ambitiously, Arapahoe Basin, CO (A-Basin as it’s known locally) has announced its opening for winter ski operations THIS Friday 13th October. Gonna be a long Winter if they can sustain it...

First major resort in the US to do so this year?
Interestingly, last year they opened 21 October and ran until June, making it a 9 month long season.

Yep. Vail was forced to sell ABasin 20 years ago. They have a commercial arrangement though to keep ABasin on the Epic pass.

A series of cold core lows look to sneak around the NE Pacific Block pattern, delivering back to back snow systems kicking off Tuesday for the Pacific NW and BC resorts. It may very well be a season opener for a couple of resorts IMO.
