Big system brewing for the mid-West to the East Coast next Tuesday to Thursday.
I am seeing lots of severe TS and Winter weather associated with it.
It is also looking likely that we’ll see Pac NW/ SW BC resorts get their first taste of winter over the next week. A couple of front systems looking to trend positively IMO.

Looks to improve for Tahoe and surrounds I think too over the next week or so.
    Pattern switch.

Here's what is getting exciting for the new OpenSnow forecaster for New Mexico. I'm following because my first flying trip is to Taos. Good possibility for 1-2 feet in the next week. Brian Head in southern Utah is also expecting at least a foot.

There's been so little snow in Utah so far that Alta pushed back their opening day to Nov. 29. There is a storm the next couple days but the Winter Storm Watch was downgraded to a Winter Weather Advisory when the max went to 12 inches instead of 14 inches.

I think that region can expect more of that this season IMO.

Interesting and would this include potentially some love for Whistler also.

Unfortunately not, the system pushes South through Oregon & CA predominately.
The reinforcing system pushes further South again, with snow into New Mexico by the end of the month.
Some great frontal occlusion by the time it hits the Mid-West.
Alas, bugger all of SW BC IMO.

Decent opener for So-Cal & New Mexico resorts as well.
It's as good as done, IMO.

Down from silly numbers but still there in a very decent way. Looks like a good season starter for Telluride too.

Plenty of snowfall for Tahoe and Mammoth. For the Four Corners resorts.
And something for the rest of Colorado and Utah.

Not surprisingly, the Alta forecast keeps shifting. Apparently Brian Head in southern Utah may be the big winner this week. Already got 16 inches and could get another foot or two or three. American Thanksgiving is Nov. 28. Opening day for Alta, Snowbird, and Solitude is Nov. 29.

After Taos and SLC in early Feb, I'm going to Steamboat for a few days. So watching Colorado too.

Winter Weather Advisory for Steamboat, Nov. 27-30

Following the URL above led me to find the NWS Probabilistic Snowfall Forecasts. Telluride looks to be the winner for Colorado this week. Taos should get 1-2 feet by Sunday too.

Powder Mountain has installed a snow stake that has a feature I haven't seen before. There is one side for the storm total while the other gets cleared off every 24 hours. PowMow and Snowbasin seem to be the big winners for this week's storm. Had close to two feet from the storm this morning (28Nov) and expect at least another foot.

Big Bear/Snow Summit, CA manages to rack up 3-4 feet storm total. They’re set for Dec, it seems.

The storm for LCC/BCC is over. Total is almost 6 feet!

A ski buddy and her husband arrived at Alta on Wed for a long holiday weekend for U.S. Thanksgiving. She was prepared to do non-skiing stuff if there wasn't much snow even though they are staying at GMD. She's having a very good time skiing instead!

Latest thoughts on the North American long term outlook:
    1. I expect a good run over the next 10 days for the PNW.
    2. This good pattern of snow-bearing weather will eventually expand out to the majority of the Rockies, with the exception of the far Southwest for the 10-20 day period.
    3. Tahoe and the Rockies should both do well out of this period, once the initial 10 days pass.

Thanks for all your work here, @Jellybeans ! So, does far SW in point 2 above include the resorts in the Okanagan area (eg Silver Star and Sun Peaks). I arrive on 12 Jan. Hope the snow bearing systems will have arrived by then .....

I have a feeling Evan of OpenSnow is going to doing as much skiing as he can in the next week. Especially after Alta ski patrol gets terrain open after the snowstorm finishes up. Here's his morning update for Dec. 13. The Alta website is showing the storm total already up to 21 inches as of 6am, with 3 inches since 4am.

Alta storm total was not quite 3 feet (about 0.8m) over 3 days, ending Dec. 15. Ballroom, Backside, and Catherine's were open today. Back on track for a normal snowpack for the holiday period.

Snowfall for BC and PNW, stretching down to Tahoe over the next few days:

And then something heavy for the same region around Xmas and Boxing Day.

Alta got more snow than expected during the Christmas storm. Got 5-6 inches each 24-hour period. A bit above average for late December. Know of someone who skied LCC Dec. 20-24 who had a very good time. Essentially 100% open at Alta and mostly open at Snowbird.

An unusual report for NM. Santa Fe is the home mountain for the new OpenSnow forecaster for the region. It's only a couple hours drive from Taos, but this week the weather was pretty different. Taos Ski Valley was only expecting 5-6 inches.

My friends in Oregon are finally having a very good time. They live a couple hours from Mt. Bachelor and ski weekends there. Their local mountain is Mt. Ashland, which is non-profit. Don't have to worry about lift lines much for either. The total snowfall is only about 50% of normal, but that's about to change.

Jan. 20 is the MLK Day long weekend. So all N. American ski areas/resorts are hoping for good conditions for holiday crowds.

Polar Vortex is in flux and looking to have some elongation over North America over the next 10 days, meaning the increase of cold air over the continent.
In short, there should be some nice frigid systems on their way for much of the continent.

Too much snow and wind in the PacNW this week. Parking woes and closed roads are making news for Crystal and Stevens Pass. Perhaps more national coverage than before because they are on Ikon and Epic. Pent up demand for locals who didn't ski during the holidays and had to work during two midweek dumps meant that Sat, Jan. 11 was a zoo on the access road. The skiing was great for those who managed to get on the slopes.

The latest blog update for North America (the first of 2020, finally) from my perspective.
    1. PNW/BC/Northern Rockies to remain good for the next fortnight, reducing in the second week of Feb.
    2. California/the SW/Southern Rockies to improve for the latter half of February (maybe a bit earlier)
    3. Eastern US expected to improve for the last 15-20 days of February (2nd-3rd weeks of Feb, possibly into the 4th week) IMO.
    4. These impacts may be reduced/weakened by Arctic influence, etc.

I think Utah should do alright. I’m more talking north of Jackson Hole. Not that they will be too unhappy, after pretty endless snow/precip for a month.

Ok. So we're not talking a locked in massive high pressure system that will hang over the west for a month?

    Reassuring.
Prior to previous trips I have watched massive ridges hang around for weeks - both in North America and Europe. I'm sure one hovered just off the west coast of the US for 5 weeks one year.
