New strom rolling in for BC and the rockies.
Looking nice a cold again with below village level snow for Whistler.
Interior BC and Alberta resorts should see a foot also.

Looks like some great early season conditions in Canada & USA, very jealous.

Anyone know what's happening in Europe, are they getting any love too?

Good.
Been extremely cold for Alberta resorts as well as lighter than others snowfalls.
I am heading over this Friday so perfect timing with better temps and fresh snow this week :)

Yep appears that hige arctic cold mass that sat for a good 2 week peroid is moving on, long term forecast has more snow again at this stage also.
Perfect timing for you. The much more bearable temps will be nice. Skiing in -25 is interesting

Yep, a much more zonal flow from Today (Monday) onwards.
Next major system for US resorts-proper (CA, CO, WY, UT etc) will be on Sat/Sun. EC & GFS progging falls in the 20-50cm-realm depending on locale. Mammoth (Sierras) could see another +2 feet.
Exception to this is PacNW which will do well over the next 4-5 days with the onshore (more zonal) flow.

Yep back to much more typical Nth America set-up.

Dumping in whistler village currently, the steps infront of the backcomb gondola have filled very quickly

Must be absolutely nuking up on the mountain, good quality snow.
Whistler is having a pretty amazing start to this season.

Looks pretty good for the next couple of days for the interior and coastal BC and PNW.
Wouldn't expect much for Colorado/Wyoming/Utah/Idaho until Saturday like Pow said.
IMG_9479.png

24-25th looks Fantastic for Wyoming, Colorado and Idaho. It should produce snow in the Mid-West (just before I get there:D) and should bring snow to the East Coast too.

Whistler was awesome today. So much snow. Fantastic early season. I was initially concerned about my choice of whistler from opening day but it has been incredible. Everyone should get here now!

So where have we been and where are we going.

This shows the temperature anomalies over the last 10 days. Basically warmer than average through California, Nevada, Utah and much of Colorado. Colder than average for much of the Pacific Northwest region and most of the Eastern states.

So what's around the corner. This is the forecast temp anomalies for the next 5 days.

Fernie got 52cm over the last two days.

The snow is starting to pile up on top of those signs.

And another good week ahead of forecasted snow, head down to Fernie next week so watching keenly as the base starts to build nicely given its early days really anyway.

Next Tuesday looking good for Pac Nor West resorts and to lesser extent BC Coastal resorts.
20-40cm in it IMO.

Saturday/Sunday still looking large for the Rockies. I like this system very much - it's very much like the one late last week.
Mammoth (Sierras) look they will also get a hiding with +2 foot.

Re: 27-29 Dec

Next Tuesday and Wednesday looks good for BC/PNW
IMG_9513.png

GFS Forecast at Whistler airport is 10 inches for this period. 15-30 inches on the hill or 40-75cm.
Would expect similar falls in the Coastal BC/PNW area and 5-10 inches less further inland.

For more recent conditions over the 25-27 Dec, here is 2m Minimum Temp. Nice and cold, just the way I like it:D

Incoming. +30 Inches plotted for the Sierras. And some solid top-ups for the rockies & interior resorts.

System deepens considerably over CA, NV late on Friday eve, local time.

That chart is probably overstating the falls. Try the 50% percentile for a more accurate measure of snow.
I thought I had posted the 50 percentile!?
Falls across CO & UT over the last 24 aren't even the start of this thing. It's going to throw down tonight (Friday local). Here it comes through CA now.

Plotted on GFS & EC aswell. Doesn't look as static as the last incursion, but the East Coast looks cold and relatively dry, with the cold air extending down into Georgia & Alabama.

That one looks like an Alberta Clipper, for the system coming over East Coast on 30th.
