If you are looking to fill a few hours in Tokyo then VR Zone Shinjuku is pretty amazing. The ghost in the shell arena absolutely blew me away.

I think that last time I was in Osaka, I used a Suica.

Which 4 original castles are you seeing? Himeji, Hikone and Inuyama? I suppose the 4th is Nijo in Kyoto where there is the palace, but not Tenshu (keep).
I guess the re-cons include Osaka, Nagoya, Okayama, Hiroshima?

    Have you seen this resource?

Some of those, and some smaller obscure one's as well - Kakegawa, Nagoya, Kiyosu, INUYAMA, Fushimi, NIJO, HIKONE, HIMEJI, Osaka, Ikeda, Shoryuji, and as a day trip from Tokyo MASUMOTO, and Takashima on the way back :D ,and we might throw in some shrines in Kyoto LOL. Web sites suggest you can use the Suica on the subways/buses in all three cities, just wondered if anyone knew for sure. Yep castle info and, Japanese castle explorer

Was in Japan last week, visited Nagoya, Kyoto and Osaka. Suica worked in all 3 places.

We were fortunate enough to visit Kochi when we went to Japan last year. The castle there was awesome to see, and very much off the beaten path due to the (relative) inaccessibility of Kochi. http://jcastle.info/view/Kochi_Castle

While in Shikoku, a great visit is to Matsuyama Castle... probably one of my favourites.

Nice. We'll have to go back there one day. One of our friends was living there as an English teacher. My (then) 2 year old was a mini-celebrity at the local "cafe" (semi-traditional breakfast restaurant that also offered a small selection of western fare).

If you're flying into Osaka. The ICOCA card is a better bet. You get some deals on airport trains etc.
